So full Crafting WON'T be ready for launch according to Hedge on Discord? Are you freaking serious?

So are we getting anything new for release? Maps? Weapons? Enemies? Modifiers? Features?

3 new maps, 1 new zone, a handful of weapons.

For most companies QA are the people down the hall who’s feedback is ignored unless it’s a gamebreaking crash.

Saying that something got past QA like they had any control is like blaming the speeding sign for not stopping the speeding car.

is the most common thing you’d see if you ever worked in-house QA and tried giving feedback about the state of the game. It’s been over 20 years since I did, and I’m still salty about how much feedback is ignored early on and then comes back around to kark the game months later when it’s too late to work on.

Keep in mind that they only “recently” established a QA at all. I believe there was a instagram post about 4 years ago that it was a new position to be filled. Take that however you will.

“The other sharks are really looking forward to this position being filled and this is a new role so you will have the chance to set your mark on how we work. Are you the structured and analytic person we are searching for?”

I wonder if they ever found someone

a “QA Programmer” being a new position is not them saying they have no QA department at all.

Assuming you’re talking about this post: Fatshark on Instagram: "Hello! My name is Karl and I'm the Tools Manager at Fatshark, and I'd like you to come and work with me! ⚙ We are looking for a QA programmer for PC/Console games. As a QA programmer you will be laying the foundation for critical decision making in optimizing, improving and stabilizing our games. The other sharks are really looking forward to this position being filled and this is a new role so you will have the chance to set your mark on how we work. Are you the structured and analytic person we are searching for? 🔧 Link in bio for more information about the role. #developer #programmer #devjob #openposition #gamedev #programmer #qaprogrammer #gamejob #hiring"

To me, this looks like an entry-level programming role for in-house tool development and has nothing at all to do with game testing.

Yes, I do think that we as gamers have only one way to express our vision about how we want to see gamedev done - by not bying half-baked lazy-arse sheiße.

And this is the reason I started talking about expectations.

This is generally my stance now as well. I’m rarely optimistic anymore. The golden age of gaming has passed.

The long and the short of it is that there are other games you can play. Is it disappointing, sure. I’m hoping it does improve, I just can’t justify buying it right now.

Lol this generation… there is basic progression. Don‘t believe people are so salty because they have to put effort into a game. What is next? Level boosts and neon green and pink skins for your chainswords? Crafting materials or red weapons for real money?
Crying because they can‘t equip 9 weapon mods on a gun? Crying because they can‘t level on the highest difficulty?
People did notice the pandemic and stuff did they?

The ‘golden age’ of gaming was when there was no possibility to churn out alpha-pre-betas to users and patch them out as you go along with some money in the pocket already. It has passed precisely because too many people started to want to part with their hard-earned all of a sudden. The proverbial culture of consumership.

Yes, we did. Some of us are actual developers on actual deadlines with real QA too  But thanks for this gimpy strawman.

Completely aside from your strawman argument about the pandemic, this is neither about generational entitlement, nor is it in any way about “crying”. The game released (and don’t misconstrue the “pre-order beta” as anything but a release. Every type of media gets exactly ONE chance at a first impression towards a customer. You don’t see movies being released as a pre-order version for audiences to test them) in an incomplete state with many, many issues. That’s a fact. Now that they are actually putting the “Release” out, it is common sense to expect the product to be finished. If you buy an early access product, you pay for the game being in development, the promise of input towards said development (which is what all the “crying” was, even though I have to agree that some people did word it very harshly and insultingly, which is, frankly, unacceptable as well) and just that, early access to the product. If however you buy a RELEASED product, you pay for the PRODUCT, and not the promise of the full product maybe somewhere down the line.

Releasing a game for full price while not being feature complete is unacceptable. Period. If the idea of people making use of early access to partake in development via feedback however is such an alien concept to you, I suggest you read up on the issue. There’s a pretty good video by Soviet Womble as well which touches on the issue of first impressions, which I can also heartily recommend.

I also suggest you tone down your rhetoric. You’re not furthering the discussion by fueling it with strawmen and ad hominem attacks. Thank you.

WTF?!? :man_facepalming: They basically made it mandatory to do the contracts if you want a really good weapon or gear with good stats. So you can’t miss out on them or if you buy something after doing the contracts only to have a better version of it the next day you’re SOL. Another is the gear could just be crapola for a long time so you’re gonna have to sit on your contract currency until something good comes up which might end up being a long ass time.

Well, people here did say they wanted contracts back… Shoulda been careful what they wished for!

I enjoyed the hell out of the game in its current state and must admit, that it should have gone into a early access phase for a few months.
I‘d rather play it in this state than wait another 6 months. Still, there is some communication from their side regarding the state of the game.
Can‘t stand how everything instantly gets pulled apart as soon as they preview something…

I can empathize with that. I tend to get defensive about people I respect (game devs of games I like definitely are among that group) as well. And I do agree that communication from Fatshark is better than from some other devs out there. Early access however would probably have been the best solution here, agreed.

Also props for calming down. It takes strength to admit that one was in the wrong.

someone in their office that has influence is convinced these changes will make more money. That’s all it is. Willing to bet solutions to the created problems will exist in cash shop, it’s very typical community college level game service business acumen.

I think it depends on what it is. People were angry at a significant change like chip damage being added before things like suppression were even properly working and the change going against the tutorial (which is the one time the game attempts to explain anything).

The grind for me and the delay in the crafting system plus the news of “premium currency” has me frustrated and annoyed. If the game was terribke people wouldn’t care but it’s golden when its working correctly but design decisions and lack of transoarency are vexing.

Its just the rule of feedback, people only give it to complain. It’s a much rarer occurrence for people to come on and say “great job” but what they do is play the game and encourage others to do so.

Excuse me for going offtopic - Premium Currency?! Do you have a link to that? Because that would be a literal dealbreaker for me.

Well not exactly. It’s just called a scam. As in working as a part-time tester, but paying instead of getting paid  Scams are perfectly acceptable, though.

Absolutely. It’s abundantly clear that the execs are only concerned about a holiday season cash grab based on the current state of the game.
