Skitarii Yesterday: Thoughts, Problems, and Suggestions

I haven’t maxed out my Skitarius yet but I think I have a good enough impression of the Class and it’s stuff.

Overall I like the class, even if I’m not the best at it. I don’t know if I’m rusty or what but I’ve been going down more than usual. Could be I don’t have enough points to get all the Toughness nodes or I’m too much of a dingbat to get one of the Auras. The Abilities are pretty cool and the blitzes are good. From what I’ve seen the Artificer Servo-Skull gets glazed the most but the Arc Grenade cleans house and the Shield might come in handy, I haven’t used the Artificer Skull that much so I can’t comment on it much.

I like the weapons but a good chunk of them feel like they have a steeper learning curve than the other weapons, the Mechanicus Power Sword especially. I don’t know why but having the special action be the left-click combos just fries my brain. I also keep whiffing with the Phosphor Blast Pistol, which is either a problem of the shots sometimes phasing through enemies, that phantom shot thing that happens sometimes, or a skill issue so catastrophic that my mind refuses to cogitate it. The Arc Rifle might have an ammo issue.

Now for the chinks in the armor, starting with the armor the Skitarii starts with. Like the Hive Scum they get four sets of cosmetics for each Forge World when they start, but despite them being unlocked I can’t equip them. I can equip the sets unlocked from penances but the base cosmetics just make the load out of the yellow exclamation thing where it says “validate load out”. This feels like a bug, and if it is it needs patched.

The voice effect thing in the character creation section is a great addition but it’s unclear what the sliders do. I think I know what “binharic compatibility” does but everyone else confuses me. I could be stupid but I saw someone else share the sentiment.

Lastly is not really Skitarii related but it’s a long term problem I see on the horizon. DLC stuff is cool; albeit very close to PTW; but you have to cater to the people who don’t want to spend more money for one reason or another. We need free weapons, maps, and levels, otherwise we’ll reach critical mass and sink like Helldivers. And I mean new weapon families, marks are cool but that only lasts for so long. If need be angle it in a way so that Tencent starts drooling over the idea of selling more Commodore skins to us, assuming they are the ones stopping you from adding more free weapons. I really like this game and I don’t want it to buckle under it’s own weight.

Oh and the Vanguards are… enemies. I think they’re too tanky for common enemies but shield guys are decent enough enemies.

I’m reserving my own judgement on skittle until I can grind it out and test every weapon at least a little, but yeah.

Yeah, I’m having a hard time weaving in heavy-specials on the power sword, totally have to retrain myself to hold the mouse button I use for specials instead of just clicking it.

I’m having the biggest issues with weapon special and ability inputs not registering though, like when I press to switch on the transonic blades and it doesn’t always work so I press multiple times and then can’t tell which mode is on, but it’s been an even bigger issue with the power sword and chord claw because sometimes they just don’t activate at all and I’m left standing there like an idiot. I’ve had this problem before but it’s much more noticeable on skitarii because of how often you use your weapon special and abilities.

Gonna have to see if the mods that fix it have been updated.

Overall I like the class, even if I’m not the best at it. I don’t know if I’m rusty or what but I’ve been going down more than usual. Could be I don’t have enough points to get all the Toughness nodes or I’m too much of a dingbat to get one of the Auras.

There’s an error in the event Coherency calculation - you basically don’t have Coherency unless you’re in hugging range atm, so you’re missing out on passive regen and auras - definitely leaves you squishy until you’ve picked up a handful of regen talents. Not a trait of the skitarii specifically, just most egregiously obvious on a new character.

Arc grenades are inconsistent, sometimes they delete even crushers, but sometimes they don’t, there’s only 3 of them and no way to replenish aside from pickups.

Shield got same problem, but it also don’t do much and yesterday i played with rifle on which i put ghost blessing, so if i would run this blitz with it, imagine how absolutely worthless it would be.

Arc grenade combos off of either Voltaic Emitter or Shock Mine to delete elite packs - without some kind of shock setup in advance, the arcs don’t bounce and you lose a lot of damage from it.

At least, that’s the theory. There could also be a bug, I suppose.

Yeah I’m very much against using special to “switch” between modes. There’s too much to manage during intense fights.

Special should just be a special move that you press when the time is right. It doesn’t need to be more complex than that

Where was this explained, the dev diaries? genuinely curious. the expectation is the player expends 3 cap charges (for max distance) + a grenade?

I’ve also experienced elite packs being wiped and, and other instances of the grenade (w/ overcharged arc grenade) not taking out a specialist despite detonating at their feet; irrespective of whether voltaic motivator or a shock mine was used.

So with the guarantee weapon special mod on nexus it’s definitely a lot smoother. I think activate special → special attack could use tighter timing, but if it weren’t for animations blocking weapon special activation I can actually see what FS were going for and it works better than expected.

Not being able to see which mode you are in unless you stop swinging for a moment is still a problem and I’m not really sure what to make of the move sets, if there’s just one optimal move set in each mode or if it varies per target. It does make it an odd duck as far as weapons goes.

The skitarii lacks any health and toughness nodes really. Except the auras. It’s a lot squisher in raw stats that way. But it has a lot of talents to Regen toughness and get dr.

I am not sure I would ever take the 90% corruption resist for 1 corruption every 20 seconds. Just forcing yourself to speed run at that point.

I do like the idea of talents with drawbacks though.

The weapons so far from testing I don’t mind. Arc maul had to learn the combos. The power sword… Yeah weapon special being scroll click it’s too awkward for me to use as a button for light and heavy attacks.

I’m pretty sure this is the crux of the problem. I don’t want a long animation to play for something I’m pressing every few seconds. I just want a clean instant toggle if it’s to switch modes.

It’s not as bad as it looks, at 1 corruption per 20s that’s 25 minutes to generate a full wound.

If it works with zealot’s corruption cleanse aura you might even be able to take it without getting corruption.

The Arc Rifle should have half the magazine size to be less spammable. The very slow manual reload is a good tradeoff, but it can be circumvented with auto-reload (+ blessing); with it, I never reloaded manually.
Blitz with a personal bubble shield seems nice, but it is too expensive to reload with pick-up grenades. Especially when we have HS and Arbiters, who can become invulnerable to long-range fire thanks to their abilities every few seconds. I’d like the shield to slowly recharge automatically, for example, when ability charges are at maximum, then any excess capacity earned would go toward the shield recharge as spare route to replenish supplies.

Yeah I was curious if corruption resist curio stats impacted that at all either delaying the ticks or making the ticks smaller like it does for grims.

The shield blitz should be rechargeable via kills or by spending capacitance. If Arbites can manifest Shock Mines from thin air then Skitarii should be able to have a rechargeable battery as well

Voltaic Emitters “disable shooters” is bugged to hell, it barely works 50% of the time.

Aura talents are horribly positioned on the tree.

Servo skull blitzes should have separate charges for their corresponding actions (Flamethrower/Medicae).

I would be interested to know that too. iirc they said the base tick of 1 is already taking the 90% into account, so in reality it’s actually a tick of 10 corruption reduced to 1.

Assuming it stacks additively and doesn’t round up to 1 corruption per tick that’d be about 40 minutes per wound with three corruption curios.

I wrote 15 minutes before for a wound without corruption resistance but it’s actually 25 as skitarii has 75 health outside havoc.

I played more and from what I’ve seen you need to be on the same level as elites to jam their guns. Meaning of you’re on stairs you have to go up or down to make their guns not work. Meaning they either fixed it or it’s an unspoken quirk of the ability
