Honestly I’m not that expert about 40K lore, so dunno if the image is something out our characters abilities :S, it was just an example of maul paired with a shield
Given that auric maelstrom is much more enjoyable when playing with a shield-casting psycher, I think having more opportunities for defence is not a bad idea at all.
Imperial Navy breacher in void suit with a heavy shotgun and breaching shield
Crusader with power sword and either a storm or suppression shield
If I got a vote, I’d say Arbiter’s mace & shield to the Veteran and Crusader’s sword & shield to the zealot. Shotgun & shield would also be cool for Veteran but I don’t know if they’d go for that. I’d be willing to give it a go.
Honestly pure hopium but i think a Arbite class would be be a nice inclusion. Having a lot of abilities centred on CC and stuns for larger enemies. Shock mauls, gas grenades, maybe a demoralizing shout for enemies.
They would probably share a lot with vet / zealot but there would be some cools ways to put a unique spin on things that also benefits the team.
Arbites wouldn’t mesh well with the Rejects, on the other hand, the Enforcers would be much more agreeable (one of our Psykers already having been one prior to being thrown to the gutter) to the lore and the Rejects.
But at the same time it would have a lot of difficulties being able to find its place without being either Zealot or Veteran 2.0. and making a full tree for it.
I would say that separately from the armours that have been datamined which should be free/penance armours, the best way to have active Enforcers in the game would be as part of new branches to the current archetypes and as a new enemy faction.
A Branch introducing a single blitz (Concussion Grenade), an aura (Suppression aura, or maybe one set around tagged enemies in coherency), and an ability + keystone (Cybermastiff) for the Zealot.
With either the other archetypes getting different branches on different themes or having all 4 archetypes have a Lex branch.
New faction for Khornate Enforcers, mixing Palanite Enforcers with Corpse Grinder Cult aesthetic for a heavier faction that relies less on ranged firepower
Guardsmen I don’t think get any form of shield, but yeah crusaders certainly do, so it should be well within reason for our zealots to carry them, and it seems like it’d be a shame not to give any to the veteran. Not like they’re incapable of picking up a heavy thing and holding it in front of them. Though, I would vote for one of the veteran’s shield weapons to be shield + pistol, because I think veterans should be more about ranged combat than melee combat.
