Whenever I change either the items my character is using, or the career, the game displays the message “Server Error: Cannot connect to the game server, please try again later” after about a minute or so, and the only option I can select is to quit the game. This happens even when I’m just alone in Taal’s Horn Keep and not actively in matchmaking queue. This occurs every time I try to change my career or equipment in-game and is making it effectively impossible to change anything about my build or switch my career. This has been occuring since yesterday, which is when I reinstalled Vermintide 2 after a longer period of absence.
This also happens when I’m in a lobby with other players. The game claims that it cannot connect to game server and gives me the “disconnect” button, even though I can clearly see other players still walking around in the keep, and can even chat with them if I press enter. I’ve since disabled all mods in my launcher and unsubscribed from them, but it does not seem to have helped.
Firstly, can you please try deleting your AppData directory:
Press the Windows key + R
Enter %appdata% within the search input and select ‘OK’
Navigate to: AppData\Roaming\Fatshark
Delete the entire ‘Vermintide 2’ directory
Please be aware that by removing your AppData, you will lose any custom configurations such as keybindings. Your progress won’t be impacted, as it’s stored on our servers.
Please let me know if there’s any difference after doing so.
Deleted the Vermintide 2 directory in AppData\Roaming\Fatshark, but the problem still occured after I launched the game and switched my melee weapon a few times.
Small update, while it still happens, the fix seems to have decreased how commonly the error occurs, as I’m not able to reproduce it 100% now. That’s improvement at least. But it still throws out this error when I change my weapons a few times.
This time, clicking the “quit game” button on the error message caused a crash. Uploading the console log as well as the stuff that popped up in the crash window.
