Serial/Frenzied Killer requirement is ridiculous

Most of the achievements in the game are either naturally obtainable given time or skill, or doable with a team that’s willing to coordinate with you to get the unlock. Even the more absurd ones like killing a boss with only brain crush damage is achievable in 2P private games if you can manipulate the bots into getting killed.

Serial Killer and Frenzied Killer both seem like achievements intended to be obtainable through natural gameplay and/or skill, but after 300 hours in Darktide alone (and thousands more in other FPS) I’ve barely even scratched the surface of these cheevos. I’m wagering they’re borderline impossible.

I think the main problem with these achievements is that you’re competing for kills with your team for them, on top of the consistent mechanical skill requirement for Serial Killer being ridiculous. You pretty much HAVE to only kill one enemy at a time, because if you have overpenetration it’s pretty much guaranteed that it goes through some idiot’s head and into another’s torso, and presto, you just lost all your progress in that match.

These requirements need to be lowered in order to be realistically achievable. The fact that I can’t even get Frenzied Killer 2 on Auric Damnations is absurd.

Having a team helps a lot, I give you that.

My tip, at least for Serial Killer: it used to trigger via Brain Burst. So you could get it by chaining 20 Brain Bursts.

I also got Frienzied Killer while playing as psyker with a purgatus staff IIRC. You were also very close to it, I guess it will pop on it’s own soon.

Other than that, for some penances you need a pre-made group, otherwise you will pull your hair out!

There is no need for anyone to beat those penances. You get nothing for completing them.
So why would you want them to be made easier?
Most penances are already very easy and do not require you to do anything challenging.

If you play well and queue damnation+high int with a good horde clear build, you probably get 90kills in 30sec every other mission.

20 consecutive headshot kills, you can farm on pretty much any difficulty.
You could try doing it with ambient enemies, or in any map event that constantly spawns a few enemies.
Overpenetrations are only an issue if they kill additional targets with non weakspots.

I do not know if you have tried using a different loadout or a different class for those penances. If you have not, maybe you should.

Sharing my pain

I guess I’ll try it just for a completion

Update:

Yeap, it works :+1:

90 enemies in 30 seconds wasn’t too difficult for a gorgunum heavy stubber on a high intensity mission, if I recall. I believe I got it a while ago without trying for it, and that was before the ogryn had an instant reload button and a giant frag bomb, so you could give that a try. Probably best to try it on a horde in a long hallway.

Also yes, brain burst counts as a headshot, so just brain burst twenty people in a row without killing anyone else and away you go.

They might be achievement hunting and that Serial Killer Penance is a bit taxing, not difficult, but taxing in terms of fun. It’s not really fun to aim for 20 heads consecutively.

Oi.
You should aim for every head.

Not entirely true. Maulers take more damage to the body than the head because the former’s Flak

However, in regards to the point that you’re making I do agree that it’s good to aim for the head - but having the Penance require 20 consecutive headshots could really frustrate someone if they get 19 consecutively and then miss the 20th.

Serial killer, yeah sure its probably bit on the harder side. But frenzied killer should be quite easily doable after few high intensity damnation runs by just playing the game. Its not even particularly rare one based on steam achievement stats.
Grab some flamer weapon if you just want to get it done.

I got mine by spraying a braced autogun down a hallway at a horde…

Some are just better and by that I mean luckier than others

I remember that I got Frenzied Killer way back when the Power Sword was still at its most broken - good times. I use the Shovel these days, so I’m a COMPLETELY different Veteran now

for serial killer just run assail as a psyker, aim at head level and decimate the horde, you’ll probably get it after 3-4 tries.

for frenzied killer it used to be REALLY easy to get with flame thrower, now adays your best best would probably be to run an assail/venting shriek psyker. drop a horde HARD with assail, build up to 100% peril then drop that sweet cone right ontop of the horde, then get in their and clean up with melee as quickly as you can.

it also helps running the highest difficulty modifiers - that’ll be your best get.

Have you actually tried this?
I would say with about 99% certainty that you will never get even close to 20 headshot kills in a row this way.

just use bb for headshots this what i done, zeal flamer or psy purgatus u have maps like (archivum sycorax / relay station / mercantile) all end events got mass ads.

I got Serial Killer using a revolver, it wasn’t that hard honestly. I would just look for idle ambients, get an easy headshot while they were standing still, then when the rest of the pack aggroes I would pick them off one by one using my melee shove and pistol whip to stun them first and then headshot each in turn at such close range I couldn’t miss.

Serial killer: surely one of the easier ones if you cheese it with a brain burst psyker?

I mean: if you just want the penance, do that.
If you want to test yourself to earn it, then 20 headshots is clearly doable, just difficult.

Ones you can in theory do on your own seem better to me than those that require cooperation. I don’t want to have to ask a load of strangers on discord to come do a monstrosity brain burst mission with me.
