Second "Sister" City - City/Enemies/Lore/Ideas Discussion

We have all heard the rumor from Morrow not to talk about the second city.
image

With that being said, and Morrow’s scowl of disproval, Let us begin

- Here is my take on what a sister city could look like if introduced to Darktide.

The Sister City -----------------------------------------------------------------------

image

Sister Hestia has received word from Swagger that disturbing new Heretic Idols and Relics have been discovered in the sister city. We must dispatch a special unit to the city to investigate. The sister has been given permission by the Inquisitor to call upon the Sisterhood to provide aid in restoring the faith, or spiritual corruption, to the city and the world of Atoma.

What are these Relics? They must be recovered!

New Playable Hero ------------------------------------------- Adepta Sororitas

The Sisterhood responds to Hestia with the tools necessary to quell this evil festering in Atoma Prime. A small group of Novice Soroitas have been sent to purge the city. Once successful they can then take their final vows and become accepted as a Sister. The Novice have failed in their first teachings and have been given a second chance.

What the characters failings are can be chosen during character creation.

Enemies ------------------------------------------------------------- New Faction

AELDARI

The strands of time have been observed. The Aeldari will soon arrive on Tertium. They have been fated to intervein. Although they are a dying race, the hidden relics buried are at risk falling to chaos. The Farseer’s have dispatched forces to combat anyone who ventures near to prevent an even greater calamity.

****Tie a connection to Swagger, a Harlequin, a Farseer or introduce a new character to represent the Eldar. They would be our enemies.

Mobs/Trash/Chaff
A Cult, worshipping eldar gods in the SIster City and influenced by harlequins for centuries, is there to protect the relics.

The trash mobs would be humans. A reskin. I’m not sure if possessed would be the correct word, but they would mimic the colors and clothing of the respective Aeldari faction that is introduced.

Elites 1,2
Gaurdian Defenders
Battleline Ranged/Melee Support organizing the Mon’Keigh to attack us.

Grav Platforms
Support weapons platforms that can fire from distance. These units can appear in small numbers during a “horde encounter”.

Specialists 1,2,3,4,5 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fire Dragon - Flame Specialist
The fire attack can be a left to right sweep instead of a straight line. But in general, a copy paste flamethrower special.
image

Dark Reaper - Sniper Specialist
Identical to the sniper we already have but instead shoots a rocket launcher that hits multiple teammates. Also teleporting to a new location after each shot.

Shadow Seer - Support Specialist
Replacing the grenade special slot and provide a buff to nearby troops. Their ability would be the Fog of Dreams - creating a mist that would make it difficult to see at long range. The mist wouldn’t be a physical manifestation on the battlefield but in the minds of our players.

Howling Banshee - Melee Disabler
Much like a pox hound, the Howling banshee will warcry upon spawning. Running in stealth to its target before pouncing and preforming a sync animation requiring a teammate to save the immobilized player.

Warp Spider - Melee Disabler
A traditional hunter from the genre. The warpcloud it creates from the sky to pounce on those who forget to look up. Small arms fire on its sides prevent the team from pushing this unit off, requiring the team to remove it from range.
image

What separates these units from other Darkside’s specials is their ability to fight and retreat.

Much like the Karnak Twins, specials will teleport to safety once they receive critical damage. This will pose them as a single threat throughout the mission and also nod to the survivability of the Eldar race. Specails can adopt a unique personality when fighting Rejects. If the Rejects find a way to deliver a mortal blow a death animation occurs triggering a unique Vox threat from the Eldar, permanently removing the special from combat for the mission.

Boss 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wraithblades
The melee kind, of course. Try not to die.

*****For the enemy section above I pulled directly form the 10th edition army list, but would love any ideas or input on how what can work. I’m not too familiar with eldar lore; I’m not sure if these units can even mesh together with their respective gods and such.

Thanks for taking time to read! Food for thought!

Think the AELDARI can work in a tides game?

This would be so cool. Would absolutely love to fight Eldar.

Wouldn’t banshee be more like a Rager though?

Maybe they can bring some sort of Eldar alien panther creature as a disabler :joy: my lore knowledge is minimal but I’m sure I’ve seen they have exotic creatures like that?

I didn’t even think of the replacement for a Rager type! That could work. And the Jungle creatures could tie nicely into the forests of Atoma, introducing new biomes for the ambush predators.

hate to break it to you, but 1:most of the time they build new hive cities on top of the old ones, se we likely have already “Been” in any other hive cities and 2: the “sister city” myth is a reference to armageddon and necromunda whose drama tends to travel as gossip and get confused as happening on other hive cities.

like the veterens always whinging the space marine should be doing their job, it’s just fatshark having a laugh with the lore.

Ah, so like most things FS its an inside joke and we are stuck footing the bill.

(also you’re no fun!)

Nope, we have confirmation that there are at least 3 Hives on Atoma, and that the Sister City isn’t inside of Tertium.

As for the main post.

I quite like Sisters, though I think they should be introduced from minor/local orders and be rejects, either being picked up on route to specialised Sister facilities or sent to Grendyl purposefully.

So no Power Armour and such, but being set on the acts of faith and such

And as for the Eldartide. As much as GW love to dunk on them, I don’t see that as likely, while having a named Eldar as an assignment target or as a Vocator could be much more appropriate to the lore.

In the end I think that Chaos Waste will be set in the Sister Hive, new factions don’t really need to be introduced through changing location, as they most likely would be local cults that revealed themselves

where do we have that? i’ve only heard theories in-game.

I dont think we will ever get sister of battle. I dont think we should, either. The whole lore is centered around us rejects. Sisters of battle are too pre established, too high up the hierarchy and a little past our power level (even if in game we are astartes level of power). A lot of the fun is (imo) being a reject, a total nobody but rising to the occasion despite all odds. So, i dont think we will ever get something like that and i also dont think we SHOULD get a sister of battle, tech priest, etc. They just dont make sense in a “reject” context. Stick to what we have now, and just expand on them with new skill trees. Other than that, any new faction of enemy will be awesome no matter who it is. Whenever we visit the other hive city, i have no doubt it will be worth the wait.

Edit: and one more thing, we have been told in game many times now that it is impossible to get reinforcements. So, it just would not make any sense why we have reject adepta sororitas. Why a single sister of battle out in the moebian domain? Where are her sisters? If there are multiple adepta sororitas, why use them as mere reject fodder? Their skills would be used much better when used more tactically. If there are reinforcements, it doesnt make sense because they wouldnt use rejects in that case, they could get proper militarum reinforcements.

CM confirmed it a long while ago.

There are multiple Hive, the 2nd Hive isn’t seen yet, and there is a 3rd Hive that hasn’t been mentioned in game yet

Yes, that’s why every archetypes need to be written as a Reject.
People that were Tech Adept, or Sister, or other, then were thrown into the gutter that is the penal system.

Either being picked up by chances or through deals of the Inquisition.

Sister archetype shouldn’t be Power armour wearing character, but set on a theme that they can incorporate through them.

  • Lesser (non military) Sister order.
  • Either not using Repentia Squads or picking them before arriving to the Repentia formation location.
  • Because they would be picked up from the penal system (Ergo Reject)

…that’s it? that’s nothing. CMs aren’t an authority on anything, and they’ve been flat out wrong before.

id absolutely love it if the sister city was perfectly fine, like perfectly fine. imagine if the hive we’re in is “the city no one talks about”.

Thats some grade A Tzeentch conspiracy. It’s a fun idea just tough to wrap my head around it since the Inquisitor has orbital scanning. What is strange to me is we do not see any of the “frontline engagements” aside from the one video of them scavenging the battlefield for weapons.

There are 2 options:

  • Second Hive is the Underhive
→ There’s already a named Underhive sector (Sector Perditus)
→ Given example of Armageddon and Necromunda doesn’t make sense (As both worlds have multiple Hives on each, 3 and 25 respectively)
  • Second Hive is another Hive
→ CM confirmation of multiple Hives on Atoma

An underhive would be great. My only curiousity is how they will make the biomes/enviroments appealing and different from what is currently offered.

Probably having it be a much more decrepit and even chaos warped compared to the current maps.

Having whole swathes of ancient hab Blocs be warped into a Chaos garden

I was thinking giant blue mushrooms in caves or something, Chaos Garden makes more sense
