Have you tried….not being poor?
Have you tried having standards?
Here’s the very real detail that changes your story a bit. The 14000 Aquillas were for buying the full priced Imperial Edition, which would have been the same as buying 7000 Aquillas twice for people already playing the game for free on Gamepass. Because you needed Gamepass (Xbox Live) to play for free, which was access to the entire game for them already.
So its more like they could pay the equivalent of 14000 Aquillas in real money and get….14000 Aquillas and the Imperial upgrade items? because they could already play the game for free if they could download it with game pass, the only requirement was xbox live gold. And its still on game pass, not like Vermintide that has rode off and on at numerous points. It has continued to be a free game. Not that I have ever cared for the funny money, but its important to get the details straight in shading Fat Shark. The thing was garbage more because Xbox players got offered an actual working game (for that brief window that build was quite stable) for free. While we got whatever the hell Darktide launch was and paid for it.
It’s related though. It’s both we got shafted with a half-baked release for over a year and Gamepass/Xbox purchasers got an incredibly better deal for the same price and a more working game to boot. It doesn’t matter much that Darktide hasn’t rotated off Gamepass, since the purchase was to keep it even if it did rotate off or if someone didn’t keep their Gamepass sub running. It was just really bad optics for anyone who bought Darktide before the Xbox launch.
It just still boils down to Fatshark still being hilariously bad when they try to actively engage with their existing player base with the game.
Yes. Hence the question. They are a business, therefore they need the money so why should they give you premium currency for free all the time? Do you go to your local store and complain about not getting stuff for free as well?
It’s like you haven’t read any of this thread at all.
Have you heard of positive customer engagement to offset the negative perception of a predatory cash shop? Fatshark obviously haven’t heard of it what with the actions or lack of it that they take. They’re trying to have it both ways in regard to monetisation with both a buy-in box price and “micro” transactions, it’s all take from them. Even gacha games know they have to sweeten the pot every now and then with a bit of free currency since that is a positive way for the company to get people to at least look at the cash shop. Fatshark implements as many dark patterns into their store as they can and are surprised when there are people who recognise them and calls them out on it? They can keep their dark patterns but there’s a wall they’ll hit with their lack of positive engagement.
It’s not just a matter of us spending money or not, if that were the case the cash shop would just have cash prices and a full catalogue; instead, it’s why should we reward the lengths they go to to try to get as much money as they can out of you by applying techniques that obsfucates spending amounts, forces purchase of more currency than necessary, prey on FOMO, and creates more than a dozen little inconveniences here and there scattered throughout the game?
Fatshark themselves said in a laughable attempt to deny that they were being predatory that they went with funny money so that they can give the currency out for competitions and events and over two years there’s been what, 2-3 sweepstakes and one event?
The real metaphor would be: Why would you want to spend money at a shop that while the product is overall good, it has all sorts of quality issues, is surrounded by processes and packaging meant to waste your time and the staff treats you as both stupid and only a wallet? Brand loyalty is a two-way street, and you should remember that next time you try to defend malicious business practices by being as reductive as possible.
I feel like FS updated the forum rules recently to require this or something.
Also they said they were totally going to make a 100 Aquila package so people could buy Just Enough Currency.
It has been 2.5 years. They still have not done this.
So just because you don’t like how the shop is operated (spoiler: Neither do I) they should just give away premium currency for free, under the banner of…how did ya call it….. positive customer engagement. Not gonna happen. They are providing crapton of free stuff anyway.
Hey, it’s just a suggestion to make their hilariously predatory, one-sided monetisation a bit more palatable. But you’re wrong in that it won’t happen since it already has, and that event has been repeatedly spoken of relatively fondly by the community.
Most other ‘free’ stuff is just either fixing what’s broken (all those overhauls and reworks), a distraction/diversion (the lacklustre ‘events’), or reliant on an existing system that’s jank at best (mission select), and they’re not really improving what the shop is offering 95% of the time so being enticing by selling good product doesn’t seem to be happening either.

Yeah, I reckon you get that pretty often lmao

Pointing out that most of the work that’s gone into the game in the past 2.5 years has resulted in stuff we haven’t had to pay for isn’t some “consoomer” thing. It’s just true, despite all the effort to minimize it (eg. “It’s just reworks” or “should have been in at launch” or “no one asked for it!”).
Imagine thanking a company that charged you for broken product, then partially fixed a year(years) later with a high hand. Literal consoomer mentality, not a shed of self-awareness on sight, as per usial ![]()

Been over all this nonsense before, but I got hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of this broken product and didn’t have to pay a dime for them to continue to improve it over the last 2.5 years. I’d say this $40 was one of my best gaming investments.
Its all been a catch up to the beta datamine but whatever. I guess it’s good to set realistic goals for Fat Shark, like them eventually finishing what they started working on 2 years ago…wait, a bunch of those enemy types and weapons still aren’t here. They even had the ogryn power maul in his trailer, when the game didn’t launch with it. Or the heavy sword in the psyker trailer…that was for some reason a Zealot exclusive in the feature bare launch game.
Very glad for both you and myself for not having rock bottom standards ![]()
Overall I have to agree with that sentiment even though there is alot worth criticizing.
That’s the painful thing.
I’ve never been so primed and willing to throw extra money at a dev team because of the value their product brought me, but been so unable to because there is (was) literally nothing I could buy to support them worth the “tip.”
If they weren’t bungling this Arbites cosmetic situation (regardless of who is to blame, it’s a bungling), I’d have bought funny money for the first time ever, partially due to the 500 we got from Skulls (oh yeah, that’s what the topic of this thread was).
