Scum no fun

I did not finish the last event, and even though I really wanted Aquilas, because the hive scum is so painful and demoralizing to play. Each mission feels like work, like a job. I feel like I’ve been playing for hours after just 10-20 minutes. It’s too bad you didn’t extend out that event time period.

Leveling the hive scum is worse, harder, and less fun than the pscyher before the pscyher rework, which I found tolerable. I don’t care about a discussion, I just need Fatshark to understand that this product they sold me, this expansion, is the opposite of good time.

If you keep falling over and dying on it, it might be that you need to change the way you’re playing that class.

I’ve been gaming for 35 years. I’ve played literally hundreds of games. I’ve leveled every other class to 30 and have 3 builds for each of the previous classes. I am level 26 with hive scum and have tried 6 different weapons and tried 3 builds. This goes beyond a style choice. The class simply is not fun. Perhaps that changes at level 30 … whatever, lw88, believe what you want. This post isn’t for you. It’s for Fatshark.

Yeah, it’s admittedly a slog until you can get to the Keystones ngl. Get to the Keystones, everything changes after that.

Well, it’s a bit pre-mature to judge that soon before even level 30, granted. Every class leveling to 30 is agonizing at first, which I agree, but once everything is unlocked & you have curios, blessing, weapons maxed out it gets better. You need more time to get familiar with the classes core mechanics & practice to get that reward at the end of the tunnel. It’s very different from the other classes in which it’s more fragile & less tanky, which is a huge shock to the system. You just need to be slide dodging & dodging more to become better. Using the scum’s agile abilities to your advantage. I guarantee you it’s a skill issue is the harsh truth, because I don’t go down any more times than the other classes, personally. But hey, if you keep going with it & you still don’t care for it then no big deal, you don’t have to play it. Play what you know & enjoy.

I’m not saying skill issue, I’m saying that the class’s builds, tree, talents and gameplay style are quite different from everything else in the game. It’s not about lacking the skill or experience to play it. You could be the best ogryn player on your server, and if you try to play it the same way, you’ll fall over flat in 5 seconds. That’s what I’m saying.

Try chainaxe rampage+cleave with toughness damage reduction, and attack speed on stimm, and chem dependency. It’s a great way to learn the class until you’re more familiar with when it is and isn’t strong. You have two instant toughness refill abilities, and constant attack speed buff, with good damage reduction. Even without the last 4 talent points.

then send a dm instead of a post :man_shrugging:

besides having a class that needs a fundamentally different approach (even though it sadly ends in an overpowered disaster later) and not follow the same methods of the others is a good thing.

charging money for something doesn’t entail “it” has to work for every hinz&kunz, it should offer something unique.

and not everyone is able to get this uniqueness to work or even find it out.

skill also comes in the form of adaptability and its one of the few things truly left to the player instead of blessing does x or talent does y.

what which and where to do something is part of the learning and skill curve so yes

and the game needs more classes like that, albeit in a balanced form, so one can finally again “respect” a good zealot, vet, ogryn whatever for what HE does and not his cookie cutter loadout.

I’m bored to tears watching the same lame ds/plasma/dome/wololo repeat shooting fish in a barrel.

it’s a rare treat watching someone go above and beyond DESPITE his loadout, not because.

though I agree, after having a full roster of lvl capped characters, the game shouldn’t subject an experienced player to crawl through the low tiers again.

he either gets his stuff together theorycrafting or fails no matter the process to a “finished talent tree”

edit: having not much more to do currently :face_with_medical_mask: I still ponder at the “didnt finish event cause scum” part despite having multiple other tools to get it done in a day or two with :man_shrugging:

usually such warmup runs with ogryn do the trick by themselves.

33 years ago… battle toads was a thing, did finish the game despite the snake level

so if the game was overall “ok” how does a dlc optional class work as argument for not finishing anything?

other than losing interest in the gameplay anyways

Well, if you want this post to be ANY use for Fatshark, you have to be slightly more descriptive then “Hive Scum isn’t fun”.

You didn’t have to play scum to complete the event? Do you normally only play psyker and stay at the back? Were you playing a melee focused scum?

I think fat shark already heard this complaint about the early levelling process. I don’t know if you played after that patch but they moved a lot of defensive talents further up in the tree.

The class is fun to me but that’s subjective. Would have to see how you played and your build but you can play a lot more in the back and like a psyker if you just do needle pistol focused build.

Irrelevant, darktide demands horde management skill, that you won’t get in other shooters.

It’s your skill issue and nothing else, every other class is more tanky, but scum got shuffled talent tree that put more defensive talents into upper parts and right now dodging bugged and is easier against all ranged enemies on all human classes.

you don’t give a single reason why scum is worse, harder, and less fun to play.

Scum is my main, so I’m biased, but the class is everything I’ve wanted since I first started playing Darktide (at launch), when I had to pretend my Veteran was a Hiver.

I’m solely a Auric Maelstrom enjoyer these days, and I haven’t done Havoc 40 on my Scum yet, so I can’t comment on that.

What have I just read.. HS is one of the easiest classes to play in base game (don’t know about high lv Havoc). About as easy as knife Zealot, may be easier. At least its melee variant, I’m not good at shooting play. If you have issues with it, you don’t have core skills then.

I’m kinda confused as to how this ties into that event that ended like a month ago now. A week into Scum’s launch they shuffled a lot of the survival nodes so living with 10-15 points on the tree wasn’t tough. And with the current ‘balance for havoc’ mantra they get extreme runaway damage and survival with a unique cheese DoT that kills armor at the cost of infested damage (wow what a tradeoff).

Assuming this post is made in good faith, you can always ask for a refund, they may give you one. FS has given out plenty of refunds well past the 2 week / 2 hour mark. Although, why you didn’t ask for a refund much sooner is on you.

Leveling the hive scum sucked (especially before they swapped some talents). Once you’re into the high 20’s and at 30, it’s a totally different experience.

I seriously doubt the OP has dipped his toe into high Havoc.

Hive scum is insanely fun! You got some SNICKETY-SNORK, some SKERRINK-CRUNCHY-WUNCHY, LOADSA BOOM boom… yeah, you’re a bit squishy, but fair trade off. I would change a couple of talents on the class, but overall it’s pretty solid as a full support or psychotic rampager. And what’s not fun about playing either a pissed off Billy Connolly or a reincarnated digital Keith Flynn or being a mad arse toxic avenger?! I’d say to the OP, I’d guess it’s just not your cup of tea.

It’s fragility is what Psyker should have and can have if certain Psyker Talents are toned down.
