I have been unable to enable RTX HDR via the NVApp since a few months ago. It’s greyed out. I have reverted to older drivers from end of last year to no avail, I just cannot get it work.
I have also tried with the latest drivers and no success. The drivers and the game previously let me enable RTX HDR but I can’t figure out which driver it was.
It keeps stating the game needs to be in fullscreen for it work. I think it used to work when you had exclusive full screen so it seems it doesn’t work with borderless which is the default now
Works fine for me, tested just now latest drivers and remember to update nVapp if applicable.
Double check the other stuff needed to make it work and close any apps or browser like FireFox that may interfere or cause stutter (I think that’s fixed now), overlays (Discord, Steam other) , Windows auto-hdr ETC.
Sometimes RTX HDR doesn’t hook properly at start, usually fixable by Alt-Enter to toggle mode, alt-tabbing or restarting game.
There’s a long thread on this issue on Nvidia a forums I’m surprised it works for you. My process:
enable windows HDR
Disable AutoHDR
Enable RTX HDR in Nvapp
Enable HDR on monitor
Set Fullscrern in game
Update to latest drivers
All overlays disabled
What is notable is that RTX HDR works for other games like Killing Floor 2/3, Shadow Warrior 2, Dying Light and several other mixes of old and new games. I cannot get it working with DT.
I have a multi monitor setup. I remember RTX HDR used to not work with multimonitor but it eventually was updated to do so.
Installing older drivers didn’t help but I might need to DDU.
Using it with 2nd monitor too, those issues were a while ago and you can always force it on w/ nV Profile Inspector, no issues; IDK what to tell you but it’s not likely the game’s fault. I’m assuming you tried single monitor mode to test, reshade off etc.
I suggest maybe trying forcing it on globally or just DT w/ nV Profile Inspector rather than nV app to see if it works and it’s just nvApp having trouble for some reason.
OR If you want HDR a different way maybe (probably more ”proper” way) try SpecialK , or RenoDX, I think Reno works w/ DT now, the plugin had issues before but maybe they’re sorted out now? The comments suggest it’s working now, read them.
I have tried Nvidia profile inspector earlier but it’s still greyed out even with driver level enabled. Something is amiss of it works with other games, I do t know how to solve this at this point I may just give up
I wasn’t sure about RenoDX in case it got my account banned
There’s no anti-cheat, Specialk or RenoDX injection via the ReShade injector won’t get u banned or anything.
If it’s forced on globally via nV Profile Inspector it doesn’t matter what the nV app Overlay says, it’s irrelevant at that point and not needed.
If you don’t notice the color diff then RTXHDR didn’t trigger properly for whatever reason; it’s a post-process after all so IDK if ReShade or something else is being weird.
It looks like gpkgpk has been a big help already but as this isn’t a widespread issue (at least on our end) I’d recommend reaching out to NVIDIA Support for assistance, as they’ll be best equipped to look in to this for you.
Aight some more info to add, I just RMAed my AW3423DW real gsync ultimate and they sent me a newer AW3425DW w/ FreeSyncy premium aka gsync compatible as a replacement.
Now I turned on VRR OFC but when I turned on the built-in monitor FPS (aka refresh rate Hz) on-screen display I noticed VRR t wasn’t kicking and neither was RTX HDR.
After some overnight digging I found the culprit and partly thanks to SpecialK info, it was not bypassing DWM for DT or others so it couldn’t use VESA adaptive sync (VRR), and Special K reported MPO disabled as well so no RTX HDR and FPS OSD was showing max desktop Hz of 244 accordingly.
Turns out I had software interfering w/ the VRR (which didn’t with real gsync afaik) and in this case it was Start11’s replacement taskbar which somehow made itself tje topmost invisible window, and on a hunch restarting Explorer fixed it. Disabling autohide on Start 11’s taskbar also fixes it oddly.
Turns out other SW like Asus crap can interfere like this too.
To add insult to injury, and invisible window like the Windows volume OSD which I disabled thanks to an OSS project I forked for Win11STILL disabled VRR while it was invisibly top window for a second or two.
TLDR check for some SW inserting itself as the topmost window disabling all the goodies that come from being a fullscreen application e.g. games+extras, the extra here being RTX HDR (which may not play nice with any overlays as it disables them AFAIK. Check w/ SpecialK to report any interference and if DWM is not beign bypassed and VRR and MPOs idsabled.
That’s very interesting. Can you advise what section under try ye info on interfering apps are? I can’t think of an additional overlay I have over steam and NV overlay.
