Return to the Reik: Beach

I guess you’ll know what I mean by the title. Holding the beach in QP with a PUG is .. I reckon… a 90% failure rate at Legend and this isn’t with people who are a bunch of pansies. By now in the life cycle of the game most people playing legend are pretty astute and competent and it’s very difficult to hold your own, and as there’s such an influx of everything it’s damn nigh on impossible to counter everything, and res people. Gas, gunners, flamers, armour, hooks, and so on. too much for most players QP PUG Legend.

I happen to think that the cannons on the ship are kind-of anti-ethical to the VT2 playstyle in that players over the course of the games history have baulked against insta-easy-kills. BW when she was insanely OP, the FLYFREEMANCER, Zealot back when it was dodge meta, Engi bombardin crazyness. Even going back to Merc and Halberd block cancel spam. These things just don’t feel ok for the players and feel like cheating a little . Killing things with cannons slots in with this “it’s just a broken meta” feeling and just isn’t something the vast amount of players want to do. Bash things with my shield, backstab them, drakefire them, blah blah you get the idea - THIS is what players want to do. Players simply aren’t choosing the cannons as it feels a bit cheaty.

This then reveals that players in QP are often massively overmatched by the waves on the beach.

I’m not saying it can’t be done, and it’s often luck that you get another solid player in QP who understands the assignment and can tough it out with you, but it’s becoming a no-go map in that it is so punishing on the beach it’s often an expected fail, and people bail out.

Worse, if people stay and invariably die on the beach it pushes the map up the Algorithm to make it more frequently appear. Repeat ad nauseum.

I’d like to make it clear I’m not asking for outright nerfs and it needs to be skillfully thought out, but in the same way there was a period that the end of convocation of decay was blighted by.. well, blightstormers/specials making it very hard to finish, I think the beach in R2tR need a bit of thought.

I know some people will be able to pile through it, and have a higher success rate but it’s a definite speed bump/stumbling block that - I think- needs another thoughtful looking at. It’s not like the end of Enchanters Lair when players had to learn the routine, it’s just - too much in QP Legend PUG for the vast majority of players.
