In the Veteran Spotlight released today, it states, " This blog marks the halfway point for our class spotlights, exploring each of the 4 classes that will be available at launch."
Does this mean that additional classes can be unlocked via progression similar to how they were in Vermintide 2? Or will they be added to the game and made available at a later date (if at all)?
EDIT: For anyone looking for it, it seems we did get our clarification. It can be found here.
Though, since they chose to use rather generic heroes and since we have the possibility to create our own character, its very likely that more classes will follow in the future.
for now we know that having a priest gives us increased shield, and having a sharpshooter a chance to not consume ammo. i imagine its not stackable so diversity is encouraged
it just says coherency bonus is: XY no clue on how it works beyond that
i would think its a bonus that you provide to the team like an aura, and everyone around you gets the buff, if its non stackable that would mean class variety is encouraged.
but it could also be the other way around that its a bonus you receive as long as you are close to your team
I stronlgy assume its aura like, which would encourage coherent teamplay. If you just get the bonus when near the team then it seems rather unnecessary. Though i also assume that the bonus will be rather weak to not force people into a meta of diversity, especially since we can now play with the same classes in one team, which is a feature that was wanted for years and Fatshark will msot likely promote it as well.
I would prefer it to be stackable. But with less gains each extra of the same class. You know, so you donât feel boned if your group happens to be all the same class.
Thinking on it though⌠That might make all veterans meta. So maybe not. Lol
I would rather say it would make full Preacher teams meta if they really give more shields. We have already seen that ammo boxes are still in the game and i strongly assume that veterans passive is like 10% at most and its still chance based.
I must say⌠even after over 500+ hours in Vermintide 1 and 2⌠this class situation is kinda a dealbreaker for me. The Class and Weapon Variety was the main reason why this repetitive kind of gameplay still hooked me hard.
If Fatshark actually sticks to this and releases Darktide with only 4 Archetypes ( With exactly the same amount of active skills and the same skilltree) i will probably not join the party at release even tho i was pretty hyped about Darktide
If they at least decided to make this 4 Archetypes insanly more in depth (More then 1 active skill, much bigger skilltree etc.) then the way Classes in Vermintide 2 worked i could have maybe swallowed that pill but they didnât do that and i highly doubt that there will be heavy changes until release.
Oh boy i leave this playtest super unhappy and worried⌠i am fine with buying classes and maps after the release like in Vermintide 2 but i am not fine with buying stuff that was supposed to be in the base game by default.
im curious as to what they mean by releasing a new class every 3-4 months âishâ does that mean a sub class like vet/psyker/zealot/ogre gets a new subclass every year, or does that mean there will be a whole new main class to play, âiâll doubt it will happen but really hope they add other races to the game,â wouldnt mind be tau greater good on a squad of zealots xD ', obviously not actually expecting it to, im just happy the devs are making this game, 40k needs more love
considering that you have to create a character it seems like it will be unique
tho they might tie classes together for clarity sake IE all Ecclesiarchy faith based characters will be tied together with the preacher under the âzealotâ archetype
that being said they are way less limited in their approach this time
and while you jest radical inquisitors can and will work with Xenos
im aware of several occasions one worked with an eldar, while i never heard of a tau working for an inquisitor.
as part of an intelligent species that doesnât revel in violence its in the realm of possibility
tho the forces of the empire still have lots and lots of potential characters that we can explore
and knowing fatshark they will surely go that route first.
I have over 3k hours in V2 and a few hundred in V1.
I do like some aspects of Darktide, the music and 40k lore feeling and graphics, all these parts are superb.
But the main focus should not be here, it should be on gameplay.
And here I have many doubts.
4 classes and a very basic tree for âperksâ is just not gonna make this game fun for a long time.
And can we even craft weapons ?
Also the map design seems to be very similar, very little variation in terms of environments (not sure but I would guess this is the case).
Also I think a few more enemy types would be needed to make this game have more longevity .
I do love the ranged combat, with enemies taking cover, that adds a lot.
Though the melee combat feels VERY basic and gets boring very fast. Would have been awesome to have some kind of combo system like in Batman: Arkham Asylum, if this was added and some more depth into the characters this could have been the best game ever made. But for now it seems like they cut out 50% of the content that should have been there at launch, and will add it later as DLCâŚ
Character classes and skill tree dont belong to gameplay though and you should know that when having played Vermintide 1. Gameplay is what happens when you are running a map.
Crafting will be a part of the game. Not only were we able to collect crafting ressources during runs, there is also an obvious crafting station on the far right in the HUB. Dont know if we can craft actual weapons, but i strongly assume we can.
The map variety was known before. The game plays in the lowe parts of a Hive City and its expected that the environment is the same for all maps that will be in the release version. Yet there are a lot of possibilities for other environments when they do expansions.
Dont really understand your complain about the melee system, since its basically the same as in the other Tide titles. If that bores you already then i kind of doubt you have 3k hours in Vermintide 2.
