Repeatable penances or more ways to earn points

The new penance system is a great improvement over the previous one that cannot be argued but it could do with some repeatable challenges for penance points (think kill x heretics or complete y amount of missions on z difficulty). The current systems means that for someone like me who only likes playing (or is good at) one or two classes I will need to spend upwards of a hundred or so hours just grinding out characters I don’t really enjoy playing (without any guarantee of actually completing them) just to get a nice hat for my ogryn. some repeatable challenges that would let you circumvent the skill/luck based challenges for ones that just require a time sink instead to improving the player experience as a more casual enthusiast without impacting the experience of the more dedicated player who wants to go for 100%

You can already do that to a degree.
You do not need to complete all penances in order to get all penance point track rewards.

That is not at all what it would do.

Repeatable sources for penance points, would effectively allow players to get an unlimited amount of penance points.
The idea of rewards for penances and penance points is, that they are a clear indicator to show that a player has done a certain thing. They make players do certain things in order to get a specific reward.
Making penance points effectively just about playtime, without requiring at least a certain amount of skill, or a certain amount of experience in the game (playing certain classes, maps etc), devalues the entire system.

An olympic gold medal is given to the winners of the olympic disciplines. If you have one, it means that you did a certain thing very well.
Getting a gold medal for doing something badly, but many times, devalues the medal and clearly impacts the experience of the more dedicated athletes.

It is not reasonable to demand or to expect that a casual player gets everything that a more skilled, or “hardcore” player gets.

Repeatable penances for ressources? Sure.
Repeatable penances for penance points? No.

Yes,

I would like the kill # stuff to have a prestige of some sort. Repeatable penances cant hurt IMO.

Seeing penance updates while playing a mission to see milestones is satisfying.

i love this so much, i hate farming for class based penances that are needed for cosmetics, but they’re completely fine to farm for, plenty of them are stupid as hell and should be reworked (lookin at you EVERY PSYKER PENANCE and the private game penances) but they’re doable and thats fine by me. but that doesn’t mean that players who hate farming penances to the point that doing them actively damages their mental health should be punished for not wanting to do class penances for in game drip. they should implement this and a few other ideas on this site.

EDIT: i just want to say that i like this penance because it will make it so that you no longer need to farm a ton of different penances to get every tier of the pass done, it just means that you need to play in a way that you’re comfortable playing and sometimes playing outside of your comfort zone when you feel as though it would give a better way to play. if this is just a way to get rewards like ordo dockets, i think it should also come with penance points as well because it doesn’t force players to step out of their comfort zone until they are ready and it will still reward the players for completing penances.

While I think repeatable penances are an awful idea, I do agree that it’s weird that you
Have to pkay all 4 classes to unlock cosmetics for only the one or 2 you play.

I think having longer form, more prestigious awards for each individual class that have uniqie cosmetics like the Moebian 6th uniform is the best way to go about that.

You do not have to do that.
Never had to.
You can skip 1 class completely.

Ok, well than it’s a degree easier if you do play all 4 classes, and you still probably have to play 3/4.

I still think my suggestion is a better solution for class specific prestigious cosmetics.

There are far too many penances that take a long time to complete that only net you 5 whole penance ppints and the system is quite pitiful in that regard. Ive been at 4500 a few months but i also have 1,000 hours at this point and started with like 2400 points when the update dropped. Even then I still had to grind certain things like zealot penances but it only took me a few days. Either way its gonna take alot of people 7 months to get to 4500 maybe even longer if you dont grind everyday like I have since october. Its aburd how many penances omly net you 5 points and that was my biggest gripe when doing them.

If you start with a new account, it is reasonably achieveable to get 4500 penance points within 400 matches played (if you play all 4 classes and use multiple builds).

30 days in a month.
210 days in 7 months.
If you want it to take 7 months, that would be an average of 2 matches a day (around 40-60min per day).

I was disappointed that it was possible to max out penances in a month. Felt like the experience of maxing out absolutely everything should have taken longer.

Addendum: I maxed out the penance track in a month. I play a lot but I’m far from elite. There were people wearing the chest on the Mourningstar or posting on reddit long before me. I don’t wear the chest on most of my characters because I have better looking cosmetics that I paid real money for.

My thousand hours of playtime and non stop grinding of this game from october to april had me starting at 2400 penance points. I dont believe getting to 4500 can be done in a reasonable amount because even me grinding this game for 6 months straight didnt even start me half way. so I cant imagine how long it will take someone who has 30, 40, 100 hours played.

Also you have to factor in how many people dont have 4 characters maxed out etc etc. also if its so quick to get the final armor and not a grind why do I never ever see anyone but me wearing it? Im not saying peolle havent completed the grind but i never see anyone wearing the armor in any of my games so it cant be that easy to achieve. Grinding more than 4000 penance points when most penances net you 5 measly points is not something you can quickly do.

Many people have made the same argument before. Every single time, i have the same answer: Your playtime and your penance points, accumulated before the penance update, are almost entirely irrelevant.
You would get pretty much all of those 2400 points while working on the new penances, if you had started playing after the penance update.

I saw your original post, where you said that you do not think that i am aware of how long those penances take.
I am now telling you, that out of all people on this forum, i am probably the one person who knows best.

See the full breakdown below:

I said that it takes around 200 hours. That is not necessarily quick.
It takes 200 hours if you actually play all 4 classes somewhat equally and swap your builds, when necessary.

Many people do not care enough about the penance rewards, to pay attention their map selection, in order to play the maps somewhat equally.
People do not usually care enough to efficiently clear their class penances, if that requires them to stop playing their usual build for a while.
And those who have the armor, do not necessarily wear it.

For example, i have it, but i only wear it on my ogryn, which i rarely play.

I can assure you it takes alot longer than 10 matches to do alot of penances like the ogryn bullet storm penance. Took me forever playing that one build to get that penance and the heavy hitter penance I still havent completed because of the way it tracks. Also 400 matches is a long time playing this game and many people arent grinding this game 4 hours a day and 12 on the weekends. Im not going to sit and argue about penance completion time because what i said is from my own experience and my own play time and not whatever math youre doing under perfect conditions.

Irrelevant.
Some other class penances only take 1 or maybe 5 missions to complete.
It kinda balances out.

Aside from that, it would not matter if some class penances took 30 matches to complete (which none of them do).
The point i was making in this section, is that not only would you be able to clear all of the class penances within 100 matches (per class), but you would also be able to play with your regular loadout for most of those missions.

If you had started playing after the penance update, this is about the same amount of time that it would have taken you to get from 0 to 4500 as well.

I showed you a detailed breakdown of why i say that it can be done in around 400 missions played.

If you find a part in my breakdown, where you think that i am wrong about how long something would take, please point it out and explain it to me.

Im not saying youre wrong im saying its not something the average player is going to do quickly and especially not if theyre ogranically doing it. As I stated with probably 1,000 hours played or close to it in april I had 2400 penance points, now factor in how many less hours the average player has then me or the players that arent playing 4 hours a day and 12 on the weekends. Those 2500 points were totally organic it was only the rest of them that i really started grinding to get through but even then i play way more than the average player who doesnt just play darktide all day. If it took me 6 months to get 2500 how long will it take the average player?

Again.
Completely irrelevant.

The same type of gameplay would have gotten you many more penance points, if you had only played AFTER the penance update.
Since the penance update, there are around 2000 more penance points in the game, than there were before. Most of the new penances are easily completed passively.
On top of that, a bunch of older “long term” or “stat tracker” penances got their requirements reduced by 30-60%, making those points more accessible as well.

Penance point acquisition rate before the update is not relevant anymore.
The only way that it might matter, is if it makes you feel bad because you feel like you wasted your time.

I am not gonna repeat myself again.
Most people who made the same argument that you make now, did not change their mind, when faced with the facts. I do not expect you to change your mind either.
So let’s just stop the discussion about anything related to “penance point acquisition before the penance update”.

I’m not expecting an unlimited amount of penance points obviously it would end once 4500 is reached and even with this I’m sure that people who would want to seek out 100% completion for the penances would do so I’m merely suggesting that alternate means be available.

My suggestion for repeatable would be outside the penance reward system. Repeatable penances would give your Ordo Dockets. I don’t see how it’s an awful idea, its identical to weeklies but without the time constraint.

I was only referring to OPs idea. I think that might actually be great especially because it looks like dockets might be the biggest bottleneck coming up.
