Unfortunately, whales and endless tourists will always be a better revenue stream than a few grognards from the forums.
Most of the cosmetics ill fit the lore of our characters and are gaudy. Makes it easy for me to stick with stuff we can earn in game. I’ll still be buying Arbite, as I care far more about new classes than anything else, save new missions (thankfully these are free).
Darktide amazingly for me was one of the games I fell in love with, and on the release of HD2 I played it and was worried I would stay with it, however the gameplay feel isn’t even close. But how strikingly ironic that with every month of this game I hate the developers in the person of Shark more and more, and even despise them.
How much you can be indifferent to your product that makes you money and do nothing with it. Examples: it’s been almost a year since the crafting system, and the amulet change that was promised still does not shine, but they said that there will just be an opportunity to change the parameters themselves (15-17 resistance, etc.), was it impossible to release at once and delay the release for 2-3 weeks?
Veteran weapons I remind you, the deadline of a whole year has already passed by half.
Wastelands of Chaos, well a lot of people asked for it and when mortis came out what did they say? I know you asked for Wastelands, but it’s not them and a bunch of smiles.
Twitch mod that brings more fun can not be realized because you need to rent servers, etc. to have a system Host-player, but to integrate similar to Havoc apparently too difficult to have someone host exactly the right mode with TM enabled apparently too difficult.
Similarly and a bunch of other details, I hate any mention of balance, but even when a million topics with favorite mk4 solid silence. At least said well we will think – already better than silence.
The only reason I’ll buy Arbites is because it’s needed for content, no deluxe edition, not a drop of extra money for the developer until they stop treating their players like garbage who have to pay them from something.
Similarly with cosmetics, as long as there is this ugly store, even if there will return to the sale or come out a very cool cosmetics - I will not buy, I want choice, not “hear buy or you can never”
I despise Fetsharks for their attitude towards the game and players.
I will be honest. I boycotted them, stopped to boycott them because a lot are buying and so nothing will change, then now I will stop buying from the shop.
The reason is not a boycott… This is just I play less and less Darktide (and started playing something else) because:
- lack of balance in game
- the player spirit that was here at beginning has totally vanished
- slow reaction from Fatshark about major problems (balance, store, crafting etc.)
- lack of communication (no roadmap, no vision of what should be Darktide in the future)
- the lack of new content… we get one new thing every 6 months… I should not compare to other games or it will hurt
When we see these predatory prices on cosmetics, we should have a “live” service that suits the prices they ask us. I really don’t believe they fulfill the quality I await to ask such prices, especially for recolors.
On the other hand, I have to honestly admit that I played this game more than 3810 hours (HD2 only 210 hours, and Dune already 120 hours). So, this is what enrages me… so much potential, and so much wasted by lame tactics and stupid decisions.
I’ll chime in here. You don’t have to spend money on a game you love. They’re not mutually exclusive. We are the arbiters of our own wallets and if you don’t want to spend the money then don’t do it and continue to play the game as normal. I can guarantee that for every one of us who refuses to engage with the shop, ten people are already spending money in the shop. So the devs are getting the money. The only reason I see the FOMO shop go down is FS does something so Catastrophic like the Star Wars loot box situation that they will change it. I’ll be buying the Arbites DLC on launch because I have excess money to do so and it’ll give me a lot of hours of content to master a new class and new weapons. Long story short, don’t buy it if you don’t want to and control your impulses.
If the Whale Economy is real then it’s probably the other way around, but yeah.
I also still think it’s worthwhile banging the drum of “Don’t treat me like a jerk and I won’t call you an a**hole” on these forums.
That is to say, you don’t need to manipulate money out of me. Offer a good service and I will gladly pay. I feel like corpos need the daily dose of FOMO for profits
It really is the manipulation that drives me off spending any more money on Fatshark, especially when it was as egregious as all they did in Darktide and the following PR about it. The words “forgot” and “complex” did a lot of heavy lifting.
Trust me I hate the Fomo shop. I just would like to have a catalog to buy things. I fully agree on giving the best service for the best results. The entire platform of Steam and HellDivers 2 proves this.
that’s exactly what grinds my gears. i don’t care much about prices or clipping issues. but being held at arm’s length and not allowed to buy what i want? that’s something i really resent. it’s basically exploiting one’s dedication to the game. one who doesn’t care much about darktide might just think: ha, i can’t buy what i want? was nice knowing you. but as a loyal player, you get frustrated in hope that if you had enough, you might buy stuff you wouldn’t buy else.
A 1000x this! There are a few cosmetics that I’ve seen other players running around with and made me go “ooh that helmet would look great on my veteran”. But alas it’s not available for purchase because they’ve ran out of that combination of pixels or something idk…
Heck, Steam outright is basically just ‘Gaben wins by doing nothing’ because all they have to do is sit there, run sales, and not rock the boat to print money consistently, rather than chasing bigger profit margins than last quarter to the detriment of user experience.
HD2 is filled with things that ten or twenty years ago would have provoked outrage but people find it acceptable and ‘good’ now because every other game has degenerated into WORSE than a moderately FOMO ‘premium currency’ store and battle pass system.
I love Steam but they are not innocent of greed – CS skins are a gambling black market with no age restrictions that they could ‘solve’ but for it being extremely lucrative for them.
I agree though that they are not guilty of en tification – quite the reverse!
