Hello Fatshark,
Could you reconsider reducing the size of an update?
I’m a PC player (Win11, Steam) on a slow connection (600KB/s peak; 26.5Gb averages ~24 hours to download if non-stop) and metered monthly limit.
TLDR:
For example, split Update 5.7.0 into Versus PvP and “everything else” (progression changes, bug fixes, etc.), or allow us to download Versus PvP as a DLC so we can schedule it separately?
(You can skip the following if you have no interest in reason why I ask)
Background: the Steam-specific side (along with my specific situation of slow Internet and metered service) is that while I’d started downloading Update 5.7.x after you had released Hotfix 5.7.1 (per your post on these forums), Steam does not agree.
13 November, after downloading 19.9Gb of 26.5Gb update, I had to turn off computer for ~7 hours so I paused the download, exited Steam, and turned off computer. ~1.5 hours ago, I turned on computer, started Steam, and attempted to resume the download.
Instead of a balance of 6.6Gb, Steam will only recognize that I must download the entire 26.5Gb update (the “downloads” folder contains 38Gb for Vermintide 2 so it’s not as if Steam doesn’t have any record of the previous download; the installed game is in “common” folder, taking an additional 58.1Gb (I only own one DLC). This “2nd download” required an additional allocation of storage space (Steam stopped when I attempted to resume, advising that there was insufficient space) so now Vermintide 2 is taking ~111Gb until the update is downloaded and installed (or you release another Hotfix and I have start from zero again).
According to some Steam posts, this download “reset” can occur if an update is altered by developer (in this case, Hotfix 5.7.1 altered update 5.7.0) while customer’s downloading the earlier update (5.7.0) as Steam considers the Hotfix as different than what was already downloaded, so starts the entire (26.5Gb) update as new again.
I likely won’t be playing until next week even if the update completes this 2nd time as 19.9Gb + 26.5Gb = 46Gb, and I’ll exceed my monthly limit soon afterwards. Monthly limit resets next week.
Thank you for your time to read this post, and hope that you can consider the suggestions.
Best regards.
