[Poll] Has the perceived difficulty changed after the update?

3 Auric games, in all 3 people died and left me alone with bots because backfill is broken again.

Game 2 ezzzz, I thought everyone should be soloing without attacking and recieving no damage?

My last Havoc 40 game, with 4 Ogryns. Lots of downs. I didn’t play well, actually played kinda awful, but I’m not the only one who went down. Still plenty of challenge for everyone going for the revives and fighting enemies without proper team comp. 40 min game, meaning it’s not a speedrun past all the enemies. Where’s “easy”?

True that, yet the game has undoubtedly and repeatedly gotten easier with every other update further increasing player power relative to the enemies. Hell, they’ve even nerfed two enemies quite hard in the newest update. Players dying due to their mistakes on any given difficulty doesn’t change this fact.

I’m cringe and hyperbole when I share my thoughts and experiences

You don’t balance the game around a perfect perfomance of players. Especially not this game which is heavy on RNG and very build-reliant.

If golden toughness was cringe than so are oneshots from bursters and snipers, instantly killing players in specific situations. Maybe sniper nerf was a mistake, but bursters definitely needed a nerf, half the high hour content creators use danger zone mod for a reason.

the game has undoubtedly and repeatedly gotten easier

Well not so long ago, during the first introduction of Rotten Armor, the game was the hardest it’s ever been for 99% of the builds. Most streamers couldn’t win a single game for the first couple of days of Rotten Armor season.

I don’t mind auric becoming harder, but going into the direction of insane difficulty may not be the answer. If difficulty was the sole goal of this game, the devs could just crank up enemy HP and damage by 300%, and it would make it near impossible to win auric, let alone Havoc.

If the game is so easy and boring, why do you still play it? Genuine question.

It’s just that your point makes no sense, when it comes to single time anectodal experience or “2k+ hour player has beaten game in a goofy way abusing a bug that was fixed in the next patch”. In pretty much every gamemode I see ordinary struggling players in Auric and above.

By this logic I should be complaining that H40 is a joke because I once played a buggy run with 2k enemies and no twins spawning (btw I still managed to die to a barrel). Imagine what would happen if this “experience” should be balanced around?

FS couldn’t fix all the Burster jank so they nerfed them, probably same when sniper instantly shoots without a warning

I have a hypothesis, which is not that simple to verify, however: the more team perks for curios for teammate revive speed and talents for revive speed there are (or anything else easing the revive process), the better the chances that the Auric HISTG mission will be successfully beaten. If all four characters revive at standard speeds and have no talents for… uh… creating a space-time window for a successful revive, that’s a strong claim for a loss

Yea I totally understand the burster nerf at least, I think that one’s justifiable given that Fatshark can’t seem to fix poxburster pushing behaviour. 20% on the outermost edge is a pretty extreme change tho.

It would not be the fun kind of difficulty, yea. I’ve shared my thoughts on this a few times in the past, mechanically speaking the players are just far too powerful and there’s absolutely no way to reintroduce a similar challenge to the original difficulty anymore at level 30. While I’m in favor of nerfing player power significantly, it’d be much easier at this point to have Fatshark actually give us the ability to just fùcking choose what difficulties & missions we want to play including Havoc ranks. Being stuck on Auric if I just want to play some casually difficult co-op gaming SUCKS.

Genuine answer, it’s because of community. I’ve made many friends through Vermintide 2 by just playing the game a lot on a discord server dedicated to the game, I’ve met a few IRL and I’ve attended the funeral of one. It’s a co-op game, and Darktide has moved away from it quite significantly with its gameplay mechanics and lack of social features. Still, I want the game to be better, I want the game to give me reason to play it together with my friends. Because right now, when I play the game with my friends on discord, it’s boring, it’s far too easy, co-operation is passive because we’re just playing our “kill everything on screen” action game next to each other instead of needing to work together to survive. The game’s mechanics allow me to tank hits, kite everything and dodge hits with ease. Where’s the need to co-op if player power is so great you’re able to solo the game regardless of what you’re playing?

See, this is why I left the forums. Knee-jerk reactions and contradictory opinions with no thought for waiting and seeing.

We saw it with the previous oggy rework where so many people said he was ruined. Turns out he was buffed.

Naa, you wont be seeing me here for a long, long time, not until the worst offenders are long gone and even then, meh.

Just wish yall could learn some patience and civility.

Dont reply to me, I wont see it.

I think the aggregate of people’s experiences here matter. However you are likely a statistical outlier harri, think about it.

You’ve made some really good points on the forums as a whole, but I think the fact you were capable of playing the game blind represents a skill level that isn’t often seen. I think you act as a good nay smith and you test people’s ideas against your experiences and that is vital.

Games are won on knowledge, strategy and reflexes. You’ve greatly demonstrated you’re great at all of the above!

To be honest you’re one of the players that is likely helping to define what the meta is in terms of Havoc. However all of that said, you’re an outlier in capability compared to the rest of the player base. I think it biases you against seeing what the average experience is though.

I noticed they Mobian Gunners seem to shoot fater, aswell as the Plasma Gunners. Not sure if its a bug or its intentional.

VT2 is easier insofar as many of the core mechanics are the same, and the only enemy gun is a special with lots of warning and there’s never more than a couple active at a time.

Outside of that, Darktide characters are massively more overpowered, with far more tools to handle any given scenario, and generally far more survivability (seriously, every DT character just gets Ironbreaker’s gromril armor passive, except the cooldown is around 2-4 seconds depending on difficulty and class, right out of the gate; that alone massively increases DT character sustain vs VT2, let alone all the mobility and damage DT characters get that massively outclasses VT2’s heroes).

Darktide does spawn more enemies, and especially Specials, compared to VT2, but it also gives the team way more options to deal with all that, and as a direct result, core mechanical mastery can be much lower and still succeed in DT compared to VT2.

Is it? I think it generally harder game than darktide, there’s some things that are easier, like VT 2 zealot vs DT martyrdom zealot when it comes to risk reward.

VT 2 heroes take damage straight into health.

Game is more demanding to blocking, parry and dodges, there’s generally less available stamina.

Less kite potential due to lack of sprinting.

Sneak rat more dangerous than dog.

Due to various degrees of friendly fire and taking damage to health during overheat drop, aoe is more limited, bombs also generally more limited, though their power is equal to strongest nades in darktide.

Bosses a bit more dangerous.

I played Zealot yesterday and just said im done because of the power creep. Had 8+ maulers, racers, reapers and you name it in front of me and they all disappeared in the span of 8 seconds. But VT2 is back on the menu I guess, you feel strong there as well but the risk is much bigger.

Shame, I don’t think we’ll ever get rid of this sadly in Darktide in the future. You’d need reworks because nerfing everything is just plain boring. But it is what is is :person_shrugging:

Did you read their full post before replying? Because “VT2 is easier” was very much not their overall conclusion there.

If you’d read my whole post instead of just the first 3 words, you’d realize that I was making a comparative statement illustrating a very specific area in which DT has mechanics that players need to deal with that VT2 doesn’t, and that in every other respect DT is massively easier by virtue of making the players ungodly more powerful in comparison.

My mistake

I agree with this premise.

For example, if you dropped a Darktide class into Vermintide 2, it would be the strongest thing in that game. If you took a Vermintide character and put them in Darktide they would be extream underpowered. That including if you give them Toughness and a bunch of DR, or TDR.

But these two games are entirely separated from each other, and face different challenges.

After playing Darktide going back to Play VT or VT2 they just feel way easier. Playing VT2 I feel like I have training wheels on, after becoming a BMX pro. The game can’t through enough at me or put in enough danger to cost you a run. Also the ai bots in the VT2 feel way smarter like they know how to play the game. I haven’t even brought up Grail Knight yet, nor do I think I need too.

You can block the rattling gunner indefinitely as well..
