I don’t feel like the rounds themselves are any easier or harder, but all the vanilla classes getting buffs definitely makes a difference-makes it feel easier.
Auric has been too easy for a while and I think it shows in how many players are on the difficulty without knowing gameplay basics/fundamentals. I’m not trying to be snooty, I mean people that don’t seem to know you can push bursters, dogs, etc.
Agreed with all of this with the one caveat being I find revives are much easier to pull off in VT2, but that’s mostly due to the lack of gunners/reapers/trappers and how the enemies being almost all melee means block cost reduction just lets you tank revives.
In DT if they’re getting blasted going for the revive sloppily can lead to a chain down.
On the other hand the one nappy rat that successfully stabs you in the back playing ranged just chunks most your hp.
This is just speculation, but seeing how they buffed pretty much everything in this update and accelerated the power creep, I’m starting to think that Fatshark no longer sees Auric as a difficulty for experienced players, but rather as the next step for players who have just reached level 30 for the first time.
In other words, they may be trying to make Auric more like Heresy or Damnation back in the days before Havoc existed, where players could jump in without knowing much about weapon combos, enemy mechanics, maps, or the game in general, while pushing everyone above that skill level toward Havoc.
Basically, I’m starting to think they’re balancing the game around Havoc now.
a difficulty setting is meant to provide a barrier for a person’s abilities to get past.
the more skilled a player is, the easier to bypass that barrier.
difficulty settings are finite, the ability to improve for especially gifted individuals most likely eclipses them at one point in time or another by a huge margin.
see doom ultra nightmare speedruns, darksouls on bongo drums, heck even tetris got “finished” some 30 odd years after its release.
so if you dont implement a scaling factor that adapts to the very player, static difficulty settings over time become null and void, aka havoc 40 true solo run.
ok, there’s havoc 40 true solo with grey weapons, no talents and “blind&deaf” mod, maybe one day someone will pull off that world wonder
with all the parachutes and learning wheels we got so far its a wonder people still topple over despite the weird they do when caught clearly miles out of their league
i’m actually surprised we have no “talent” for a.i taking over controls when at risk of losing your health completely
“emperors divine intervention”
100% immunity to damage
autopilot to the next safe spot
1sec cooldown
every time you can slot one more desired talent into your build you become incrementally stronger, but this step by step change is preferable in my opinion to having busted mechanics (like golden toughness) or weapon outliers, so overall the game is in a better place than pre-patch if you ask me
