Plz release this on MacOS

plz release this on MacOS

If you don’t want to do it then approach apple and ask them to throw you a bunch of money to do it
like they do with cyberpunk 2077

https://developer.apple.com/games/game-porting-toolkit/

It will be a quick work for u guys racking in millions I reckon ; you guys want money right ? Apple got it

The Game Porting Toolkit 3 makes it easier than ever to bring games to the unified gaming platform across Mac

Run your Windows binary on the evaluation environment for Windows games to get a baseline estimate for performance, and verify that your shaders convert correctly. You can now take your game evaluation even further by using Metal tools such as Metal Performance HUD, Metal debugger, and Metal System Trace.

Use the game porting example code to learn how to map your game subsystems to Apple frameworks. Metal shader converter helps you bring your HLSL shaders to Metal. If you’re experienced in C++, Metal-cpp provides a familiar interface to get started with the Metal framework.

The irony is that Darktide runs perfectly on Linux via Proton. So, another solution would be to get Valve to port Proton to MacOS. But their main incentive is the Linux-based Steam Deck, so I’d not count too much on it.

If you’re tech savvy and feel adventurous, you could install Linux on your Mac and try if DT runs on it. (part sarcasm, part honest suggestion :innocent: )

I think you’re seriously underestimating the work involved, even today with advances in SW frameworks.

And I think you’re overestimating the Mac gamer base, anyone resembling a half- serious gamer would not buy a Mac for gaming.

Cyberpunk port results for instance:

I don’t see a Mac OS DT version ever being worth a single hour of dev time give its more niche market etc., unless Apple financed it all with extra, and again, niche. And even then, we’d be better off with that dev time spent on existing Windows version.

The better approach would be stuff like @Zaar suggested, but that’s a pipe dream at this point.

Every time I see a LinkedIn post where someone is showing me their R/Python code running the latest/greater GPU sped-code on a Mac, I remember they have no personality and cannot use their £2000 laptop for gaming.

Ha ha :stuck_out_tongue:

I take it you have not met Fatshark :joy:

Hahaha it really is a shame. Some games run amazing on Apple Silicon. No Man’s Sky 7 Days to Die were the only ones I really played but they ran beautifully.

Of course the list of games that wouldn’t play was much longer. And I could never for the life of me get any of my controllers to work either. Very odd to me how Apple has just ignored the gaming market outside of mobile.

Macs constitute about 1.5% of the Steam install base. I suspect the number of Mac users who play high end PC games who don’t also have a Windows PC is even lower (same way Teslas are usually a 2nd/3rd car, particularly for people really into cars).

Darktide is approaching 3 years old at this point, I don’t suspect that a launch on a 4th platform that has a miniscule presence in the gaming market is going to rake in tons of money.
