i play mostly melee on my vet since beta, and i always used all the ammo at my disposal, i’m a bolter vet, even back when i was getting 2 ammo back consistently each special or elite killed i was using all
and still i was meleeing
lately i’ve been trying plasma gun since everyone kept telling me it was so good, but i found it lacking
i occasionally play lasgun vet with mark IIb, but i can’t land enough crits to make shock trooper works for me
i suppose i’m just a bad vet then, always wasting all my ammo when i could be overpowered and generate ammo to my whole team instead of drinking their ammo
I dunno I can only say I have like 8 ammo pickups total in most games when I use a bolter or plasma or revolver and I never feel like I’m not shooting enough. Probably like 5 with survivalist and usually just taken to top off cause nobody else is going for it. For the record there’s like 40 on the map I think usually. Statistically speaking survivalist restores ammo worth like 20 of them. I’m just not really feeling limited. I will pick up like 20 when blasting autoguns and survivalist does cover that.
Meanwhile I also pick up 20 on Ogryn when I play gunlugger and it’s fine without survivalist because as it turns out when one guy picks up 20 ammo pickups to blast everything, the rest of the team has nothing to shoot anyway. Survivalist just doubles down.
getting anecdotal won’t bring us anywhere, i can tell you that in havoc it occurs me to drink the whole ammo crate by myself, coming back to get the rest of the charges my team mates left me, and i’m still not happy about the damage i did with it
and the damage i did with survivalist, since havoc is the place where survivalist yields you more value
Well Havoc has a -60% ammo modifier. The weapons aren’t balanced around it, outside of the best ones that would otherwise beat Havoc too easily without the limiter. I don’t really consider Havoc to be an important point of balance for this game
i’m using everything at my disposal being ammo or grenades, then i’ll rely on future pickups and demo team procs to sustain me
and no, i don’t magdump soft hordes

Mister, if we talking normal games i wouldn’t even bring Survivalist in the first place, there is plenty of ammo pickups for everybody, i’m with Ralendill on this one
judging survivalist based on normal game is nonsense, it yields no value, it makes no difference between having it or not
either way you can keep shooting whole game and never run out, so why bother having an unlimited source of ammo income, its just nonsense to me
With survivalist in the state it is, ammo will never matter on aurics, even if they tuned all weapons to have half the ammo. It’s a problem that isn’t relevant right now because everyone poops on aurics, but it’s still a problem that will resurface if powercreep is ever addressed
How so? It literally gives you 200-300% of your ammo back on an auric, for each teammate. That’s equivalent to 50 ammo tins. There’s like 40 ammo tins that spawn on a map. It’s stupid overtuned still, it’s just that it doesn’t matter right now because aurics are baby difficulty.
I do too and somehow I’m left with most my ammo 99% of games, maybe I need to try a game without any ammo regen though it seems to happen regardless of class tbh. If u have any of ur games recorded showing it could maybe help identify where u go wrong and how u could improve
what if it was still in beta state, that gave you 2 ammo each special or elite, how that would change a thing if you were swimming in ammo pickups anyways
If it was still in beta state then the game was actually hard, survivalist trivialiezd it, and it was nerfed for that reason. How easily we forget our history. It’s just that the nerf didn’t actually nerf it enough, it’s still overtuned, but now the game is also easy and it hardly matters.
nice, i think survivalist nerf was completely unjustified, every single nerf it got, and i think you all were just gaslit into thinking that over the countless discussions that were made on the topic on the forums

No, I actually played the game and I immediately understood that survivalist is bad for it. It created two seperate ammo economies: One with a vet, one without a vet. Horrible design, because now weapons either have too much ammo with a vet or too little ammo without one. One class passive shouldn’t have this much impact, and it’s not possible to balance the game properly with passives such as this in the game.
Ammo economy is not something that can work with 200-300% less or more depending on what someone picked (at the time it was 500-600%)
but Ammo WAS a problem without survivalist. Survivalist was messing with the game balance so it got nerfed, but not hard enough.
Now it’s not a problem either way, but survivalist is still bad design because if they (rightfully) make ammo matter again, survivalist will still make it not matter.
