Please fix the netcode

+1

I have just had a game in which I would constantly see Dogs and muties miss me, go past me and then somehow end up catching me.
Fatshark, for f#cks sake, this will be the first impression the new players will get in this godd#mn game.
I GET that you barely care since you already got our money but you’re bleeding potential users when you have unfixed issues like that.

Other esports games use Amazon servers. They use alongside in parallel with their own solutions and have high tick rate servers to make it work.

If you want to see example of low tick rate servers play Battlefield, COD Warzone.

High tick rate servers. Try out Overwatch, Valorant and Marvel Rivals. They all in some capacity leverage Amazon with their own solutions.

You’ll see the instant difference from hit registration, low latency, instant response on input.

Valorant uses 128 tick rate servers. COD Warzone uses like 30 tick rate, probably Darktide sits somewhere there or middle like 60 tick rate where COD small TDM matches are like.

This is just a cost effective measure by FS. I guess with esports titles they must ensure best experience for competitive gameplay, streamer promoter tournaments and money at stake.

For Darktide. Money not really invested into server experience. Whether they can’t, don’t know how or don’t want to for cost…

@Harridas Has made hell of a lot of video clips in another thread highlighting hit registration issues alone before any other jank.

Many assume Darktide servers are stable just because they don’t disconnect. It’s more than just about that.

Download those esports titles - You’ll understand what an incredible experience it is. In fact play the Marvel rivals 18 vs 18 mode where everyone is popping off abilities all at same time. Instant responsive experience.

Darktide’s server issues have nothing to do with tickrate, honestly I’d bet they are probably 30 tick but it really doesn’t matter. Tick rate does matter but coming from CSGO it’s almost entirely meaningless. There have been many tests ran where pro players mistook 30 tick servers for 120 tick. It really only matters for high level fighting games, Darktide is far too slow paced for it to ever matter in any noticable way.

Look at this Fatshark, how is this considered normal ?
Videos like this have been popping up a lot, this is not an isolated issue.

Fix the netcode and the goddamn bursters ff

there are some really annoying things with the net code:

  • you dodge a mutie, he passes you and then somehow grabs you from behind
  • dog leaps at you, you dodge, dog hangs in the air for a split second with paws stretched out and then still lands on you
  • rubberbanding, especially at the start of a map, most commonly seen on gloriana

That’s just the tail end of the very generous ‘did you get pounced’ detection. It’s visible because FS extended the time for you to push.

Most people don’t have the ability to just pick where to live so they can game better. Of course one thing is to have a good connection in general, another entirely to have good routing and short distance (both directly physically, and in terms of number of router jumps) to the servers used in a specific game.

I’m not convinced any Darktide servers are even within my country. I’d probably have a very different view of the game’s netcode if I was, say, coincidentally german and lived 3 jumps from the nearest EU server.

how so? even when moving between rented places there are options of better and worse connections

especially in the eu.

ages ago i had my eye on a pretty decent offer for a bigger apartment up for rent and wondered where the catch was.
pulling out my phone and having little to no connection and the necessary cables for a good internet service not installed in this street “yet”, it was a polite nope from me.

and this was on a starters salary.

then again gaming is my first priority, could move to the nevada desert if there was a better latency

excise vault still tanking fps after upgrading to a 5080 though is an issue that truly grinds my gears :grimacing:

EU tends to just have better connections, both because it’s small and because the network infrastructure is newer. I am both a American and EU citizen and have lived in both, and EU just has better connections. Darktide servers seem to just be particularly fussy with any even slightly disturbance. Like I played over 2000 hours of CS on my NA connection using WIFI and no issues, but Darktide? I had to drag a cable through my walls just to have Darktide play consistently and I still have issues despite living pretty close to New York with GB/S fiber-optic Internet. Darktide servers are probably in Virginia but even then the aren’t that far away from me. It just seems like if you have any packet loss at all you instantly start teleporting, the netcode just has complete iron grip server authorization. Also seems like the servers consistently get overloaded because with any player spike the game gets noticeably worse.
