AI slop, as far as I’m concerned, should be considered a form of spam and removed as such.
What I’m referring to is content that is clearly AI generated, typically images or videos but also posts that are entirely written by LLMs (large language models) such as this post.
Posts that entirely or mostly consist of AI slop are in a sense, offensive. The human effort, person-hood and experience completely absent, replaced with content that a bot posts through a user’s account with their consent which effectively bypasses automoderation efforts that normally prevent bots from posting here. AI slop posts usually contribute very little to nothing to a post’s subject or discussion and at times may instead throw a thread off-topic from its original discussion. It is low-effort, offensive and counterproductive to the desired ends of having a discussions forum.
So I suggest that, when it is obvious that the contents of a given post consists of AI slop, for it to be within the forum’s guidelines or rules that such a post can be flagged by users and removed with moderator approval.
However, some users use LLMs as a translation tool to be able to engage with or create discussions on this forum as their English language abilities may be lacking or absent. To avoid unfairly excluding them, I believe that human-written posts that are translated using LLMs can and should still be allowed. Unless of course, its original contents/meanings are also entirely written by LLMs.
AI-generated garbage has no place here. I’ve been seeing it more and more and I think those using it should be bullied back into their basements, frankly. Nothing so immediately invalidates their opinions as them using a LLM for anything.
Highly agree. Everytime someone is posting obviously Gen AI’d content like music or images, any text discussion that comes with it by the poster has been consistently vacuous and unproductive. No valued feedback or discussion would be lost.
i use AI a lot for both work and hobby related things and think it’s a great tool even right now and will only get better, but absolutely nobody goes on an online discussion forum to read AI stuff. it’s just annoying. it’s like an encyclopedia with really good search functions of sorts. i don’t come here to read LLM paraphrased wikipedia articles, gtfo
translations are the only legitimate usecase for it in this context, because notably it’s not the AI that wrote the original text
No, I believe it should apply to all posts contributed to the forum. Especially in forms of entertainment including memes, the intrusion of AI slop in place of what could’ve been human creation & interaction is all the more offensive.
I think the same author also posted a thread of some fan trailer he’d made (using all those terms VERY liberally) using stolen assets from other games and AI generated nonsense and declaring it superior to the actual Skitarii announcement trailer.
Oh yeah the one he lifted from Mechanicus…weird ppl out there.
People are somehow incapable of googling, they’d rather post and wait or perform more complicated time consuming tasks than spend the 5s to search for the answer.
"You’re assuming most people are thinking in “prompt engineering” terms at all. They’re not. They just type what they want and hit send.
Expecting everyone to optimize how they talk to an AI is kinda backwards when they’re not even trying to do that with humans."
^ Generated response after two prompts as a proof of concept that it’s really not hard to get something that “could be human”. All I did was copy your quote and say “respond to this”. It gave me two options, I picked the second, removed the last line, and said “make it sound more like me” and then posted that result.
I am against banning it actually. But not because i like it but because just because you close your eyes and ears that wouldnt make it disappear.
Did you know they’re planning to build an AI data center in Utah that will take same amount of electricity as an entire city?
And another one was just financed by another billionare to be built in France that is supposed to be biggest in the world even bigger then the one in Utah.
Pretending it doesnt exist is the worst thing you can do right now. People need to see it, it needs to be in people’s faces so that they actually get sick enough of it and start protesting and fighting back.
As it stands right now, not enough people are angry enough to stop this nightmare in the making.
And to back to my main point, people tend to forget things exist when its far away from them. Which is why we need the stinker to be in the house with us, so that we do not forget, and that our rage is not extinguished until billionare heads roll.
Leave the the AI threads be, let the pot boil.
Anyway i’d say this isnt a topic to be had on this forum, but its kinda forcing its way into everyone’s lives regardless if you like it or not.
yes and the same citizens being angry because it actually affect them, cause they get insane electricity bills cost. because of those AI data centers, citizens are gonna pay the quadruple or so in bills.
so why people would let the pot boil? of course those citizens are going to complain and protest, it is more than fair the same happens here in the forums.
More reasons to not let AI uses permeate daily life.
That is already the case with most of the Tech industry pushing it in our faces, disallowing AI on a forum will just “lower” (barely tbf) the use of Ai, which is a good thing.
