Am talking about playing zealot when you have inferno psykers or hivescum on your team. Good luck activating any buffs or contributing in any meaningful way you will be hitting thin air 90% of the time. Might as well play as a book bot to escort the psyker when all the heretics are busy dying from cringeblaze.
Edit: am referring to aurics, i know this doesn’t occur in havocs
Idk, I play H40 with book and there’s plenty for me to slash, stab and shoot, even when having both Desperado scum and Inferno Psyker, especially them tasty bosses
I do agree Zealot needs a little bit more damage but I wouldn’t say he needs sooo much help
I dont play havocs, am coming from aurics but i do imagine zealot being more useful in havocs since enemies are tougher to deal with and you need to work as a team.
On Havoc it’s whatever because there’s plenty to kill no matter the team but it’s insane how hard ranged hive scum players ruin aurics for melee players. Totally horrible design. I had an auric with 2 ranged hive scum players and the melee players on the team had under 80 kills each because of it. Not because of dying or doing badly, just because there was nothing left for them to kill lol.
Zealot feels like he is the most affected by this as a mostly melee class
Yesterday i played havocs 32,33,34 as zealot, i clutched last game, it wouldn’t be possible on another class, because they don’t have until death. They also can’t pause game which i did to heal myself from medcrate, usually can’t move as fast, as zealot with DS 4 and can’t raise allies as fast. You can argue that psyker or someone else can do some of that, but that would demand specific build, weapon and higher effort, while zealot can do this by playing regular meta chorus bot.
While damage is lower than scum or psyker, playing as chorus bot i still can do some, especially with use of flamer, though yesterday after 1st game i switched to bolter which resulted in highest boss damage within team and generally was better within next maps
It’s poetic how Zealot went from the most anti-teamplay class to one of the most pro-teamplay classes in the game. Back in a day Zealots were the most toxic players, running away from the team, hording all the kills for themselves, often first to quit the mission after they go down to trapper or a dog miles away from the team. Ah, how the tables have turned.
That being said, play Stealth Zealot. Hive Scum still cannot kill Bulwarks, Crushers and bosses faster than Zealot. You literary oneshot them in stealth with Thunder Hammer, knife, DS, Relic Blade, Crusher (maul weapon).
I just wish that weapons like Tacaxe and Heavy Sword could also be played with Stealth, they need better backstab blessings.
I dont want them to nerf ranged scum, i just wanna contribute while playing zealot but the only method that works for me is to rush ahead and kill some stuff but rushing aint ma thing since i will probably get trapped or hounded
Hive Scum and Arbites are basically P2W classes - extremely overtuned talents and weapons. Only people that aren’t outperforming the entire team with these classes are people that haven’t been playing this game for long.
Arbites can basically sit and tank an entire spawn of carapace and more. Hive scum can just run in circles and outrun everything while gunning everything down because they have UNLIMITED AMMO. It’s actually insane they green lit either of these classes when other classes are basically on training wheels in comparison. Doesn’t stop me from playing though, just makes me realize that Fatshark does NOT have our best interests in mind and NEVER will.
On lower difficulties it’s even better because you have no build or weapon restrictions, i usually run stealth with knife or some eviscerator build with charge. Finding strong enough psyker or scum who would clear all map is rare.
I posted this in another thread, but it’s relevant here:
Zealot is not in a great place right now. Some will argue that zealot is actually the most balanced class, and that may be true in a vacuum. But if the class consistently underperforms compared to the other classes and has less to offer a team than the other classes, then it is not well-balanced. The same balance principles need to be applied globally - I think it is pretty clear that there were different balance principles applied to zealot as compared to veteran or psyker in the last talent re-work. Zealot is matched or outperformed by several other classes in terms of melee damage, while having little else to offer a team besides chorus. He has poor ranged damage, poor options for dealing with armor, poor crowd control, poor grenades. He has pretty good survivability, although much of that is based on highly conditional talents.
Since I highly doubt there will be sweeping nerfs to the other classes, I think a good place to start would be to give zealot’s talents better uptime by making them less conditional and finnicky to activate and maintain. It is kind of silly how much easier it is to activate and maintain my talents as arbites compared to zealot.
Another good place to start would be to augment the zealot grenades in some way to make them feel more impactful. Right now I feel forced to either use the throwing knives, or to never pick up grenades because everyone on my team except psyker can make much better use of them.
Yeah hive scum is a very selfishly designed class that literally has to kill steal to prevent death and keep desperado up for as long as possible to prevent instant death on havoc.
This is what happens when one class has to work for their buffs while others get them for simply existing or presssing a button.
Just look at Vets bottom right keystone branch (keystone itself is irrelevant).
This was always the case with competent team, even back in 2023 and 2024. Ranged builds will always be first to kill enemies if enemies aren’t tanky enough to survive to get in melee range and ranged allies can dish out their ranged dps indefinitely.
And it doesn’t only affect zealots, it affects all melee builds. Go and play heavy pickaxe ogryn while having 3 duelling sword zealots in the team and you will feel the same.
It is true that this affects all melee builds, not only zealot. However, zealot is disproportionately affected because the class doesn’t really have any other viable options besides melee. Ogryn, psyker, vet, arbites, and hive scum are more versatile classes that can project power in other ways besides melee. And sadly, several of those classes are also able to equal or exceed the zealot’s melee performance…
