Not quite. There are many enemies that the plasma gun handily kills. All of the non-elite shooters for example. Plasma gun’s ammo economy needs love, but improving the damage per shot won’t help since that will just overkill those standard shooters even harder. Reducing ammo consumed per uncharged shot on the other hand would be a godsend.
But plasma shouldn’t be used for shooters imo. It’s entire existence is for one pure thing: killing anything big. Making it something that can also handles shooters just makes another bolter.
Only if you can’t use plasma vs shooters, you’re essentially boxed into melee to deal with them - which vet doesn’t really work well with plus being in melee constantly prevents you from effectively sniping. I agree that the Boltgun should overperform the Plasma gun vs Shooters, but it should not be flat out wrong to use it to take out ranged threats. Also, Plasma is just flat out not good enough at killing “anything big”, as multiple posts in here show - at least when you take into account its ridiculous ammo consumption.
Yeah this thread is about buffing it, and in my opinion, its raison d’etre should be to delete big dudes which it’s currently having issues with.
I very much disagree. Plasma’s main use isn’t being a weapon used against regular shooters, and increasing its damage helping the weapon to reach breakpoints to oneshot elites will help the weapon a lot to be good again.
While plasma always had ammo issues, the current breakpoint (and low cleave) made it a lot worse. The level of extreme specialization you currently have to take in order to get a semblance of its previous power back (while being worse in the ammo department) is terrible.
I’m okay with the weapon being a high-cost and high-impact weapon, but in that case, it has to at least outdo the revolver, which it currently lags behind on multiple targets.
