By and large, I love the weapon handling on the Branx (heavy) pickaxe. It’s not the kind of weapon I generally favor, as specialized as it is, but the hand movements and animation are quite thoroughly developed.
However, there is a very long lag time after landing Heavy 2, longer than the weapon’s overall attack speed suggests is deliberate. It somewhat reminds me of the issues that used to plague the Mk1 club around launch time.
Overall, the pickaxes seen like an interesting new way to play the game, but I’ll have to tool around in some tougher matches to see if the overall low speed is going to be an issue.
the heavy timing feels so weird. when i charge up i don’t know when its going to be a heavy cuz some of the animations make your arms go off screen so there is no reference point
It’s a great bonus on “special hit” but does that mean it’s apllied to the next hit on the same target after you’ve “pulled them in” with the hook move? Surely it’s not applied to the hook move itself?
I haven’t used it, but a mate told me that is a bug?
Also the heavy variant of the shock maul seems to have some weird input / timing issue when chaining the L1 → H2 horde clear combo. Rarely, but it happens, I somehow end up with H1 instead of L1.
As far as I know it’s not a bug, the Branx is intended to be very slow and unwieldy to make up for its massive damage. However, I am personally of the opinion that the H2 chain time into anything else is so slow that it feels like a bug, which means it’s probably too slow.
There is definitely a bug with switching weapons from a pick. Not sure if it’s related to any swinging issues but quite a few times I have gone to switch to either grenade or rumbler and just goes to a no weapon state for a few seconds then goes back to pickaxe.
Branx specifically is really bad.
Trying to rotate between heavies, lights and push attacks feels clunky, unpredictable, rough and it’s generally unplayable.
Idk how this went through player-testing and passed the testing. Maybe it’s a bug that appeared after pushing changes to production cos otherwise you need new player-testers who actually test things in Auric and not in Psychanium
It was playtested in Auric Damnation, and I don’t share in your experience aside from the overly long and difficult to read chain time from H2 into the unique L4 followup. It’s easy for that input to be dropped if you do it too early. If you know the timing, you can consistently chain from push attack into H2 into L4 into H2 into L4 → repeat ad infinitum for hordeclear.
I’m not opposed to cleaning up that chain time to make it easier to do the followup input, though!
taken from the other thread we had the same argument, i wrote:
This is exactly what I thought the moment I saw the weapon attack patterns before jumping into a game.
Then I jumped into a game and tried to reproduce the said rotations (if you played the game for long enough you kinda know how the rotations work)
Long story short, it feels unresponsive, laggy, broken, as if you have lag or your inputs are not registered by the game engine, generally a very bad experience because it does NOT feel natural. I’ve played all classes all weapons and have a few thousand hours in the game. Never felt a weapon this broken. It’s even worse than the issue the new shovels had with their special attacks when they first came out
