People say that BM axe is one of the best melee for hordes

But now that I found out that only Cleaving Strike weapons damage all cleave targets I’m wondering if it’s just placebo. Is the breakpoint calculator wrong? I don’t use mods, so I can’t be sure.

I wouldn´t say one of the best “anti-horde-weapons”. It´s just that the big con of axes is waveclear. The overall damage and armor-penetration even on light attacks is very good, so BM actually negates the only real issue and it´s not really hard to get the weakspot-kill opener especially on tactical ones.

BM works by making all additional targets after the 3rd struck by the weapon take the 3rd cleave damage number. Its not amazing versus hordes, but it makes it relatively flexible. Its not gonna beat a rampage/headtaker heavy sword at horde clear, but it will also deal with armor very effectively

As everyone else has said, its that the axe already has great single target and using BM helps stagger and damage more enemies, keeping you safer and letting you control hordes a lot easier. Personally I think it works best with headtaker, at least on the tactical axe to help with more cleave damage and I can see why its so strong.

I you want to kill horde, as veteran you have the PS, as zealot you have the heavy sword and as psyker you have void staff/purgatus.
Axe is the most versatile with BM. It permits to kill a crusher and to kill lot of groaners and poxwalkers… it is not as good as can be a PS or an heavy sword, but an heavy sword cannot kill a crusher (but a PS can kill everything)

Who are those people?

Brutal Momentum only makes axes more usable against hordes. (those with cleaving push attack already were semi-usable although far from good)

It’s actually not very good on zealot on crit build(it tends to kill the target on a crit so it doesn’t really let you hit a bleeding target consistently enough to stack up passive for the 30% crit - which again kept killing targets outright instead - which makes keeping it stacked harder; and when you don’t have the stacks - you crit a lot less, which means you get less refund for ult - which would have made you crit more). It also doesn’t attack quickly.

So I guess it was more of a popular pick on psykers before the buff and recent forcesword addition.

For other classes, it’s very mid. You have weapons that feel/work/synergize better.

@Mayson that’s why discord sucks, you got the dumbs in their echochambers hoping their bs won’t be discovered 10 years later when it’s tried and found truly wrong.

Those people would be the Discord people. And they’d say exactly the opposite of what you say.
Most in the players in Discord (who actually make their voice heard on that topic) seem to be of the opinion that Axe with Brutal Momentum is a top tier pick on any character, even better on Zealot.
