Path of Redemption Update, Coming Late April 2024

Mods have been broken plenty of times.
Not intentionally, of course, but certainly mods have broken after patches.

There is, in fact, very often a list of broken mods after every update on the modding discord.

The list you reference shows that the latest patch that broke any mods was The Traitor’s Curse Part 2 (it affected 4 mods) and the one before that was Patch 15 (it affected 8 mods).

I play with about 30 mods, nearly daily, and I don’t have ongoing issues nor am I aware of others experiencing this dreadful problem every other week (when a hotfix drops).

Well, color me surprised that we got a more detailed update post. I hope everything stays on track for a release in April.

I will say, that in my imagined idealized future for Darktide, a better cosmetic and connected penance/achievement system is absolutely one of the needed corner stones for driving sustained player engagement. Look at DRG or Payday 2 for examples of how achievement hunting and a grind that rewards cosmetics can be a driver for play. There are people that play to earn cosmetic rewards, and this (conceptually) is a massive improvement to the system. Hopefully this also makes it easier to implement holiday/seasonal penances and rewards more easily too. Looking forward to this all.

That all said… the crafting rework is what I’m holding my breath for. I’m unwilling to grind anymore and flush my resources down the maw of the RNG demon. Crafting needs to be revamped before I’ll come back or recommend the game to others.

Hopefully if Fatshark doesn’t see an uptick in players after this update, they won’t assume it’s because the update was bad. Rather, I hope they understand that there are lot of people holding out for the crafting revamp, and nothing short of that will bring them back. Hope is a dangerous game, but I hope the crafting rework comes sooner than later.

Hotfixes, no.

Mods break rarely, because the game is patched rarely.

Very rarely.

Major changes to the codebase require some mod authors to fix some things. This is to be expected.

Mods are an incredible boon to this game. I’m very happy we have the green light to use them (and without them having to be greenlit by FS).

This is, unfortunately, exactly why they’re focusing on fluff like this before actually fixing crafting.

Fatshark is still, for some reason, absolutely convinced that without their dark design player retention crafting, no one would be playing this game. They therefore couldn’t fathom making crafting less malicious without first having another grindy retention system in place.

'Course, that’s me thinking the crafting rework might actually make it less malicious. That’s absolutely no certainty.

I completely agree. I was simply pointing out that implying patches never break mods is wrong. It’s of course also wrong to imply hotfixes break mods, but I don’t know what that poster was actually trying to say.

I’m willing to bet that there’s gonna be new penances for trivial stuff, that anyone who played since release have done many times over - like “Kill 100 specials”, “Kill a monster in 20 seconds”, “Finish a map in under 15 minutes”, etc. And these ones probably won’t be retroactive.
Also, people that haven’t finished map-specific penances, like Complete 100 Interrogation missions will face the same frustration everyone else did - having to find these missions.

But anyway, this new system is useless without the crafting rework.
I’ll be waiting for that dev blog with bated breath.

  • So, can you tell us how often you update? I mean, the new achievement system is cool, but players want more, so when is the next big update coming.

Why exactly could you not give us some kind of follow up last week like you promised? Even if just to say “oops, our bad, it’ll be a week from now”? Blowing us off was just rude.

Objective number one: try to arrive alive at the end of April, preferably May 2

You mean having to double click on the batch file every couple of weeks? How laborious.

Thankfully FS Lopus has been helping quite a fair bit with the modding teams to try to make is as “easy” as possible.

Oh look, Arrowhead Studios dropped another actual content update just two hours ago. One with actual new weapons and stuff to play with.
And they didn’t announce it with announced announcements several months in advance.

They’re so lucky not to be hampered down by swedish vacation laws and being a 100+ employe company with complicated communication processes that come with such a size… wait a second… Hmmm but their engine certainly is much easier and faster to work with. Yes that must be it.

the trans operatives join the ranks it seems. dope

It’s actually the same engine these two games are using. Which is very hard to believe.

I know. I was being sarcastic. It’s like night and day when comparing them with FS

If you are adding more emotes in the game can we actually be able to use them inside missions instead of just the hub area?

It feels meaningless to have emotes in the game when we can’t actually use them inside missions, especially with how the hub is fundamentally designed in being a large area with lots of random players.

I haven’t been playing for 4 months and my playtime sits at 2714,8 hours. I actually would love for the game to crash in this scenario just to get a good laughter.
