Hear me out. The current dynamic with party finder is as follows, basically a whitelist:
You find a team on the browser. You apply to it.
The team gets to judge you, and they will, because they won’t be able to remove you after (there is no kick from striketeam function)
The team decided that due to your class choice, you should not be invited, denies you or simply ignores the request, and looks at the other invites
Result: You don’t get to even prove yourself. You are denied based on statistics. I get it, you get 20 applications and one of them is an Ogryn and the others are all Chorus zealots so why would you ever go for that, but it sucks absolute ass if you’re on the receiving end.
What imo would make the dynamic far better would be if it worked more like hosted lobbies. It should work on a blacklist basis. Here’s what would happen:
You find a team on the browser. You simply join it.
The team now has the option to votekick you if desired.
The team is less inclined to kick you due to a statistical issue as it requires active action whereas denying/ignoring a request lets you just ignore via inaction, and because all 3 players need to decide “No, we don’t want this person for statistical reasons”
Unless the team is extremely anal (in which case, fair), you do not get discarded from the get go.
The obvious issue with this: Now lobbies will likely be flooded with Clearance Level 5 players. To counteract that, just let the lobby creator set a minimum Clearance Level, which will act as that filter.
The main reason I am proposing this is because I like to play Ogryn and currently Ogryn does not get invited to any partyfinder thing he applies to (yes, even with true survivor and Clearance Level 40). I don’t like that, but I can’t blame players for not taking the risk when the system makes it so easy for them to simply pick someone else. Many Ogryns do suck ass. Many Psykers, Zealots and Vets also suck ass, but at least they have Psykinetics Aura/Shield, Chorus or VoC respectively. For Ogryn it’s just a total loss and you derank. I understand the sentiment.
My proposed system would make it work like Aurics, where players simply load in and if they’re really not fit for the party for any reason, can be votekicked. Imagine for a second if Auric Maelstrom let one player decide on who loads in. Imagine how quickly people would just go “ah, Ogryns suck so I’ll get the veteran instead for the VoC, just cause” because 10 people are queued and you might aswell pick the statistically best option. It would disadvantage Ogryns heavily (probably Zealots too, knowing the quickplay Zealot stories). That’s the reality for party finder right now. It doesn’t make sense for it to work that way.
Spicy angle for completeness: Could also avoid this issue in the first place. Don’t release challenge gamemodes where one class is at a total disadvantage and can’t crutch on anything but all others can. You’re requiring skill out of one class but not out of the others. A blind man could’ve seen this one coming. It’s easy to say “you’ll be fine if you’re good on Ogryn” well no evidently I don’t even get to play the gamemode.
I’m FAR better with Ogryn, but when I swap to one of the meta builds I perform significantly worse. I had to self sabotage just to get into the higher lobbies. Having cleared 40 it’s easier to get in now, but my God this system sucks to such intensity words cannot do it justice.
There’s no way that once most people have the penances for this mode that it will maintain a healthy population. I just can’t see it happening. Waiting for multiple hours for an appropriate difficulty match to appear and to be accepted into it prior to clearing 40 is wild. There’s absolutely no reason to do so once the penances are done.
That user is correct, there does need to be a quickplay option of some descript. Maybe you can only que into ranks below yours, or you can only que into matches up to the midway in that 10 rank block. Like rank 1 can que up to rank 5, 5 can go to 10, or something else. Assuming the mode isn’t totally barren of course.
To be honest, the only thing that I can call an issue in Havoc right now, is that non-hosts can not continue playing from where they left off. (Because of that I really don’t want to join others, it’s just very inconsistent)
I cleared level 26 with others while not being host, and yesterday evening I spent upping myself with my friend to level 23.
Gotta say that being the host is much more fun.
Having friends is very important.
Ok, about your idea.
Votekick is flawed by itself, I just can invite my friend to protect myself from getting kicked.
Also, people really don’t want to kick others, I tried once kicking the guy who were AFK for 20 minutes since the start of the match, and one person simply did not want to do that, so he stayed.
I imagine that I would not be able to kick the guy who is abysmal with that kind of system, well not like I am able to do that now
Filter is a really good idea actually, I like it
Votekick option is also useful
In my opinion, I think your idea is worth a try, especially the filter part.
Don’t think that people would become more welcoming to Ogryns tho
Yeah I’m mostly just suggesting that there should be votekick because without it would be easy to just go into a lobby and “brick” it by not leaving, and striketeams in the Mourning Star currently have no option to kick someone.
The most important part I think is that when you let people select from 20+ party applications, they’ll obviously pick the 3 most meta ones. That’s not so good for the one class that isn’t meta lol. Needs to go away. Quickplay would work too, I suppose, although without a minimum havoc filter it would do more harm than good.
votekicking someone, even if technically correct / deserved (bad build, low level, not the role your party is looking for tec) does not improve relations. prefer filtering such players beforehand, rather than kicking them from a lobby.
Naw we’re all about efficiency in here. Quick matchmaking, SOLID matchmaking, no worries. At the end of the day, no one gets kicked. Everyone stays in lobby for way longer.
