I recently ran with my brother and his two friends… They didn’t even know Mortis trails existed. I had to show them where to go.
They were penance hunting, didn’t realize they needed to be on private. Then didn’t know how to even turn the game to private mode.
Some of this I don’t blame too much on FS but yes. Maybe, just MAYBE it’s because all of this can’t be accessed easily from a single menu and you have to physically go there in the hub…
it took me longer than i care to admit to find out i could inspect weapons. i always thought that UI people had on some screenshots with all the weapon details was a mod

I love how all the arguing has been about the stat bars and no one has talked about how blessing descriptions can range from “not helpful in the slightest” to “straight up incorrect.” Vermintide 1 got it right: just let the weapons do set damage and have cool little bonuses here and there.

It was also mentioned that more complicated systems will lead to more depth but Vermintide 2 had a more complicated system than 1 and literally every melee weapon took Swift Slaying.
I remember feeling like this when I first got into VT2 from L4D2 (thousands of hours played since LFD1 release).
I did try VT1 and it was pretty neat, but not as fun as LFD2 or Killing Floor 1/2 to me so I didn’t get into the higher levels of gameplay with it.
Coming up to Vt2 I loaded up the game ready to click on the Menu > Multiplayer > Quick Play then loaded into this stupid 3D virtual menu (the keep that people seem to like) taking way more time to just play one round with the loading screens, but got over it.
Started getting used to the systems of the game, I still remember the green dust scandal… Got over it… etc until they ruined my gameplay experience with the lack of polish and insane levels of jank by adding beastmen into like every map. Disabled the expac but couldn’t play with anyone else hosting so I just said screw this game after over 1,000 hours easily (had all the red weapons, had all the legend outfits, etc). This is similar to why I hated the patch that added Havoc as they f’d around with gunners/reapers and now basically the only time I see anyone go down it is to these insta-gibbing people, turning the gameplay more into a janky cover shooter or tactical room clear shooter.
If I want to play L4D2 vanilla I can. If I want to mod it with crazy stuff I can and have almost unlimited access to peoples’ crazy imaginations for player and enemy models, maps, campaigns (for free)… it’s crazy how much freedom and respect that gives the player compared to basically every garbage system surrounding the amazing gameplay of DT.
Coming to DT I had to go through all of this time-wasting BS again but it feels SO much worse with FOMO/RNG added to basically everything. If it weren’t for the peerless gameplay loop I really would have never looked at this dev again. I think that is honestly the worst part, not knowing if the game today will be the same game in a year from now, unlike LFD2 where the control to change gameplay is giving exclusively to the player/creative community.
To end on something positive I don’t absolutely hate the talent trees, they do give you a bit of leeway to play around. I can only hope more changes that rectify these absolutely mental decisions keep coming down the pipe like removing some RNG from crafting.
Hard disagree on the Keep (though I only played co-op with friends which no doubt makes it more fun) but this right here nails it imo. RESPECT the players and you will earn their respect back. Then turn that respect into cold hard cash.

One of their best updates was Unlocked & Loaded because it stripped away crappy RNG systems and gave players agency back.
Again, these 2 points alone w/ private matches are such points of frictions for us, I bet for many others too. I feel like this should have been resolved last summer at the latest, is it just a way to try to force ppl to do havocs?
that’s what i keep criticizing too. people buy their games to do what they want, when they want. but fatshark’has this tendency of not even trying to avoid frustrating the player by not allowing him free reign. as i said, i would have left darktide like 20 times already if i didn’t like the gameplay so much. and a lot of others did leave, i guess.
Fatshark doesn’t know why people play their games and they believe the time wasting RNG is why they keep players around at all while most likely the opposite is true.
