Orestes ( chainsaw axe ) is useless AF. Change my mind

Why this piece of it even exists in the game?
For good look?

Because some weapon has to occupy the niche of ‘wow that’s bad’ and unfortunately they settled on one of the cooler elements of 40k. For that they are damned to wander the warp.

I agree with you. Why should I be forced to run Slaughterer IV, Headtaker IV and a Martyrdom build with missing HP just so the weapon feels kind of good? Who thought it was a good idea to have a weapon flirting with camera-jerking motion sickness in any way (I know they “changed” it but it still happens.)?

If by some chance Power Sword or Bolter required this kind of mega investment in the future we’d see a dark tide of review bombing unlike anything in the game’s history so far. Not even the crafting reviews or the ongoing Aquilas crisis would match up.

The design of the weapon is there. It is fun, interesting, and unique. The stats aren’t there which is it’s biggest problem.

It’s still better than the Ogryn Power Maul atm lol.

^note that two of us ran chain axes this mission. We’re both chaxe enthusiasts. It was auric maelstrom.

This scoreboard is notable for its boss damage. We killed a daemonhost the ogryn set off (apparently for fun according to him) and a plague ogryn. I exclusively used my chain axe for damage here and was the second target of the daemonhost. I did not die to the daemonhost.

Is the chain axe useless? Its a valid question of course. You’re not wrong the weapon is kind of weak, but there’s some appeal in making a weak weapon work despite its flaws. In any case I should hope to see it buffed considering there’s a second one dropping but it is hardly useless. It hits most of the ideal 1shot or 2shot breakpoints on special shred action when paired with Bloodletter. Shred attacks are fun, skill intensive, attacks that require learning. The light attacks are by far the most interesting dimension of the weapon. No other weapon was as bold and willing to shake up the norm as the Chain Axe and I love it for being so weird. It has more or less single target only attacks that are intended for elite work (though are too weak) and have these extremely satisfying animations with the sticky attacks. It is the only weapon that screams “chain weapon from 40k” the whole time you are using it. While there are downsides for some people like the way it traps your camera or prevents you from defending yourself for its usage duration - for a player with hundreds of hours in the game this is a positive. Its a challenge to overcome, to learn around. Once you gain that knowlege the weapon flows nicely and feels great and is very mechanically interesting.

A quick tip:
For the latching behavior so many people hate (that I and others like me love) the simple trick is to look AT your target when attacking. Dont swing your camera, pretend you have a gun and you’re going to shoot them. This reduces the issues with latching significantly.

Bolded the key bits from that post @Reginald
tl;dr: “Yes it is. I’ve had to invest hundreds of hours with this one weapon so that I can get it to work on a par with a normal player + other weapon would after say twenty”

:stuck_out_tongue:

This is pretty handy the next time I get all flowery about my favorite weapon:

I bequeath it unto you such that you might dab on me in the future.

Reginald knows what they’re talking about regarding Chaxe better than anyone else here frankly. It literally just needs number changes to hit the BPs it ought to be out the box and we’re good.
