Shroudfield isn’t inherently bad. It can be used to great effect by a competent and aware player. Many players however use it poorly and inappropriately. It should be used to position yourself ahead of the group and engage from an advantageous position and allow the rest of the group to fight through with greater success, often unfortunately it’s used as an “oopsie” aggro-dump that just puts more pressure on the rest of the team.
If used properly you just divert your foe’s attention for a few seconds, to quickly kill them from behind. It’s rarely used as you imply - “get away card” - in such case, you don’t get away after using it, you do something to save situation immediately. When playing shroud zealot I often use my shroud to just restore toughness and get toughness resist, I unshroud right away - while getting one-hit kill of some elite as a bonus to boot. More often it’s used proactively, when you run a few steps ahead of your group, go shroud, take out one of the elites advancing on them - then proceed to hitting the rest from behind quickly killing them. If your allies can’t hold on without you among them for a few seconds - well, they need to play lower difficulties, probably.
You are funny.
Being invisible for 6s is definitely not the same as being invincible for 6s with the added bonus of unhinged movement. Definitely not a defensive layer, naha!
This feels like bait ![]()
I stand by my point: a class with that many survivability perks should not have access to stealth. Give vet all the cool shroud field boni and cook something new for zealot, preferably some kind of rage skill which allows you to equip an assault chain sword in your left hand in melee. Just imagine automatically shredding your nearest elite enemy while you whip your thammer one-handed through the crowd. Sounds like a zealot to me.
Edit: shroudfield even has a dual wield icon. That was the biggest disappointment of the class skill tree release.
No, it wasn’t intended as such. I definitely do it. Though that other quote implies I need to die to some random gunners deciding to focus me, and not you - what I can’t agree to. No, I’m not doing it just because I’m low on toughness, it’s a waste of useful ability I can onehit a Crusher with. But if my toughness is broken, I’m definitely doing it, and you shouldn’t stay in the open if you hear/see gunners going wild, if anything, may be you should kill them while they are firing at me? Will save us all a lot of trouble.
Also calling people “dumbos” is not nice, and disrespectful, and unnecessary.
Ih someone has a different opinion from you, even if you are right, they have the right to think different, even if they are wrong.
Peace and good.
In moments like these I do regret not recording my sessions. There have been a lot of cases where what you suggest just does not apply.
The thing is if all you wanted was a toughness refill and one-shot ability you would take fury of the faithful. Point in case in the discussed scenario of enemies shooting your toughness down both other abilities would be better for ones team and achieve the same outcome. Chorus would enable ones team to kill the gunners and Fotf would let one dodge the bullets and enable one to kill said gunners faster because one would close the distance. And if one would take shield of contempt one would not have the problem in the beginning
.
The only merit shroudfield brings is becoming unkillable on a class that is already damn hard to kill. So why not give that to classes that struggle more? All vet needs is the cooldown replenishment node of a shroudfield kill…
That’s true, I’m not arguing this. You are missing the part about DT being a game, not a job, though
And that game has a lot of other valid playstyles you can try, simply to not get utterly bored doing the same thing all over again for years. You may just love “the vibe” of some builds and that’s it, no other reasons needed to play them. The fact some other build would outperform it by 30% is irrelevant here. Until you perform decently with them, it’s fine in like 97% of the game, barring may be some upper level Havoc sweatshop.
Definitely true. And I really would hate the play style to be removed, that’s why I want to transfer it to vet. I also do accept all builds and play styles (and sometimes levels) in my hosted havoc games, but I always roll my eyes when I see a zealot using shroudfield or an arbi with dog. And this post discussing pros and cons of shroudfield is the perfect place to voice my opinion of shroudfield.
Wait till this guy finds out vet already has stealth
Probably because alot of Zealots like to pick people up then drop into stealth leaving the person they just picked up to deal with the horde they kited over. They seldom use it to re-engage and more often use it to bail out, get them to stop using it to leave their teammates for dead only to die 3 minutes later and uh people will stop complaining.
I had to stop using stealth on that fatmungous build because enemies would drop aggro, immediately sprint away at the speed of sound, and never re-aggro after I inevitably whiffed the attack.
Started to hurt emotionally, like i didn’t matter enough to fight ![]()
Fatmangus is hard carried by stealth and backstab, without em, you will do even less dmg.
There are two distinctive differences between zealot and vet stealth which make for vastly different play styles: The lack of cooldown reduction on infiltrate and the lack of guaranteed crit allowing one shots.
Shroud is good. Allows you to remove bosses as a problem. Can get free rez off sometimes. The issue is that doing so can also temporarily endanger other teammates. Also lets you stay alive if you’d be in trouble otherwise, like castigator’s. Which, yeah, not as good as something that keeps everyone alive, like Chorus. But when you add it alongside massive boss damage, then it just makes it better. And it’s hard to quantify how good deleting a boss is versus staggering and giving gold toughness. Every comp needs some support and some dps. And with non-Thunder hammer builds, lets you one shot a crusher to help a teammate in trouble. Can also be used to rapidly kill several elites with backstabs.
I do wish the knife could do a little more boss damage though. For me, I’m not really sure of the order of Zealot’s best boss-killing builds, but I know Thunder Hammer is at the top, and Combat knife is at the bottom. Relic blade, Dueling Sword, and Eviscerator are somewhere in the middle. Honestly the other chain weapons might be similar to the knife.
Infiltrate could probably use a buff of some sort, and VoC a small nerf.
Edit: Frankly, aggro-dumping on teammates is a skill issue for the zealot and their teammates. I literally have never had an issue with this running shroudfield from my own perspective, or any feedback to that effect from teammates. And some builds I use it a lot more than others. Like with TH I basically save it for bosses, since it can already one shot crushers with martyrdom. But with knife/DS, I’m popping that buff a lot. Lol. I’ve probably got at least 50 havoc shroudfield games completed.
The thing is you do not need shroudfield to be a boss slayer. You need it with duelling sword and eventually with relic blade. All other options work very well with Fotf and do not endanger your teammates. The true value is in its defensive effect.
Edit: And that is fine - it is just wasted on such a defensively strong class.
