I find is funny how an beefy Ogryn get pinned down by a dog, Have a trapper net fully net him and a mutant giving him a 1, 2 and throw him around. These guys are suppose to be power houses.
I would love to see Ogryns only being partially disabled rather than fully disabled.
Dog tries to pounce the Ogryn it will go on his back take the initial corruption damage and then throw the dog away.
Trapper nets doesn’t fully net him and leaves him vulnerable for a few moments while he throws the net off. Like it’s that net scene from Kung pow
Mutants tackles the Ogryn move him as it does originally but it’s like a scrum and brawl taking 2 hits or something then catches the mutants hand mid punch and headbutt him away causing it to hard stagger like it ran into a wall etc.
Think it would make Ogryns much nicer to play knowing you are actually a tank and help with it’s clear disadvantages with their huge hitbox. Curious to see if people agree or not
I generally vibe with the idea, tough not sure about these particular solutions . ITs really hard for Ogryn to dodge these special attacks, so it would be good to make him able to deal with them also in other ways , at a small cost. For example:
Make it so if mutant get netted, he has an option to break the net but looses some health in the process. So you can wait for teammates rescue as usual ,or use the new option.
I think its important to:
a) Maintain thats its best to avoid them
b) Maintain teamwork, so the second best option is for teammeates to rescue.
c) Make the new solutions at a cost, so each time you free yourself, you pay, so you cant do it foerver
ogryn currently (and ironically given his downs and ups and downs again) is about the only class not diluted by clutches, cheapshit or otherwise pansy tricks that get you out of situations that clearly should be punished.
I’m a form advocate of putting people nose down into their mistakes and shove on top if that’s what it takes to learn instead of putting training wheels on any option there is at the game.
you want dog immunity?
play arbites
you want to be caught less by a trapper?
zip around with the scum.
those already ARE the easy options, anything else why even have disablers if they don’t disable?
own a misplay, that’s on you(figuratively)
teams failing to salvage the situation, that’s on them.
both valid reasons a match should end in a loss and hopefully people learned how NOT to play next time.
I don’t play for “nice”, I want to feel challenged and pushed, otherwise what’s the point?
Ogryn got insanely buffed over the last few major patches. Your dodges push away trash enemies, which both improves your survivability and allows you to get free stagger. Secondly now dodges give you even higher damage resistance.
I get it that Ogryn plays differently, especially when you switch from more nimble classes, but Ogryn does not need more defensive buffs. Somehow this class every time it gets buffed ends up being extremely overtuned, and just cannot sit in a balance state which is reasonable.
people so used to “what is” as a “normal” situation that should be acted around, when it fact the current “balance” is a mess of a mistake, hence conundrum isn’t even a thing.
undo the last 1 1/2 years of whatever this is supposed to solve, voila: plenty weapons and talents perfectly viable at the push of a button
from the ground up and completely redone build harder difficulty settings with NEW enemy types and mechanical skill requirements such as reaction time, aiming, reflexes and the like instead of uno-reverse colored enemy vs boring one off talent mode.
alas that’s a metric shtton of work and given how many left the company that were creating the game in the early stages…. it’ll remain as wishful a thinking as fallout or 40k becoming reality now
already got enough misery with all them one trick ponies racing their lanes up the killfeed.
this “logic” of “when everything is op, nothing is”-people, id like a twilight zone moment for them where the most basic conflicts are fought exclusively with hydrogen bombs of the largest yield mankind can devise.
traffic violation?
nuclear strike
some cut your line at the groceries cash out?
nuclear strike
karen wants the manager?
beat her senseless than nuclear strike
just maybe there’s a tiny chance of them understanding that overkill isn’t a satisfying kill.
Bully club 3b allows you to spam light on bosses without a care in the world on your toughness, that’s the definition of “never punished” if you asked me.
Steady grip allows you to stay on gas forever without taking toughness damage, sometimes it ouperforms Arby rebreather on the right build.
Shield plant disables melee entirely and you only have to worry about getting disabled or shot in an angle.
Rock staggers and pushes most bosses on weakspot hits, with an extremely generous hitbox, it is also infinite. (Don’t you guys love to argue that disabling bosses kills fun in damnation or something?)
Frag bomb screen clear/stagger with 1 button.
Grenade Box stuns everything forever with 1 click, 3 charges.
Fnp has a node nobody uses that pushes dogs away when fnp runs out.
It’s not because ogryn is terrible to play or is bottom tier currently, that it means it doesn’t have tricks or clutches.
oh strong proponent for the weak and weary masses, tell me, on a scale from he’s got “some too” to “I play on im too young to die”, is he equally soft as boom bringer, dome, smite, yellow toughness, plasma and dueling sword?
no?
then lucky me for I still can play the class ignoring most if not all of your listed stuff (except for the big boom I in fact use none) and hold my head high knowing the results are mine and I don’t have to stoop to such a low that the game needs to compensate for any lacks.
wild take I know, something that came build in with gamers in the late 80s and early 90s I guess
Hey I played overly punishing 90s stuff too, and I don’t think that was peak video games in that aspect, I don’t want every game to have dice roll combat and overly oblique objectives just bc morrowind was my favourite game.
Circling back to the topic, Ogryn should be allowed to be good, this “ogryn is balanced bc no clutches” is nerf propaganda.
I love this thread glad I made it just to see what the community thinks XD Basically what I’m saying is for such a big dude to be pinned down by a disabler is down right strange. especially for an abhuman that can stand up to a space marine in a brawl.
What I meant by nicer to play is that it comes across to the player that big man is strong and built like a tank. At least the Ogryn will feel more like a unique class rather than a camera with increased height and dodge that knocks enemies (Also feels sluggish at times). All my chars are above level 250. With the exception of scum(150) and Ogryn (182). So I think I can confidently say if such a change was made it would not matter that much as you take damage anyway. Either dog corruption from the pounce, trapper disables you long enough for fodder to damage you and a mutant chip your health before giving it a back off headbutt or punch. And not going to lie. I think I would watch my team mate get hit by a mutant just for the spectacle Xd
playing the big man since beta exclusively and believe me when I say the class doesn’t need any special treatment to play to its strenghts, rather than putting back the weaknesses into all others.
at the same time reduce enemy spawns by 50% for meatier enemies and the game’s back on track, disablers can be heard again and nets don’t need to pass a wall bulwarks cause there’s only ever 3 of em.on screen at any given time
then again who am I to say how game balancing works
As for which classes are op and has crutches I would say all of them and I can’t actually tell anymore which class is the “worst” because they are all so damn powerfull, as for ogryn specifically I dunno man one day people say he’s to weak then the other to strong then the third to weak again my malfunctioning bone ead can’t keep track! He feels strong to me and always has though before the rework most of his weapons sucked. burps and that’s all I got to say.
