Ogryns shouldn't get permanently disabled by specialists

that’s cause I do.

playing doom at the basement for 2 days straight on caffeine and 2 tic tac will never be matched again, no matter the game, hardware or era

every year there was a new evolution in graphics or what was possible, games didn’t take 10 years to develop and “balance” wasn’t a thing cause the game was released and that was it.

besides getting into the mall and seeing who was the hot stuff at street fighter 2 or mortal kombat had the essence of bro-code in all its glory.

what’s not to miss about that?

Having played a good catalogue of older games extensively myself, I get the nostalgia (even though I wasn’t around at the time - I’m an ‘05er), but I find they don’t really hold up well. Except Doom, that’s timeless and a genuine crowning jewel in history.

My personal golden age of video games is around the 2010s when the Xbox 360/Live Arcade and PS3 were at their peak. Lots of new indie games, most of which were toys (you had the diamonds in the rough like Dust: An Elysian Tail, though), companies trying to experiment a lot, even if a lot of the time AAA junk was brown and green and sepia all over. That’s also rose-tinted, mind.

Mostly I just kinda disagree with your take that “Elder Gamers™, which i am, actually like difficulty and challenge compared to these young’uns”, when the reality is that noobs and plebs have always existed and wanted things to be easier for themselves. How many people do you know that just IDDQD’d through the Dooms? There is nothing new under the sun, son.

Truth o’ the matter is that for as long as viddygames exist, people will complain about “rEaLiSm” because their willing suspension of disbelief extends a pitifully short amount. Ogryns are big, strong, and tough, but they ain’t invincible, and getting disabled reflects that.

Trained to take us alive.

This is my proposed solution:

I mean we have a situation where playble ogryn sprint, slide, vault (or doesn’t how’s your spacebar spam doing hehehe?). But enemy ogryns just slowly walking around. Or you can toss an explosion under your feet and take no damage. There are many things that doesn’t make sense neither lorewise or by the criteria of intuition and expectations. Becuase it’s a game.

That reflects poor fantasy representation in favour of “muh balance”. :stuck_out_tongue:

If it were a single player game with a campaign arc, balance could go hang. Start with a knife and a bolt pistol, finish with a multimelta.

This is just not that kind of game though. Players and equipment need to coexist. Somehow.

Ogryn should be allowed to be good tho, why have “realism” when it is to the player detriment? Why have an ogryn at all if this is supposed to be 40K chess fps? all classes should be flavourless humans if fatshark trully wanted this game to be even and flat.

This is just not chess tho.

we talking a kill-bill pei mei timeline slip up here, when carradine was supposed to say 1906 and misspelled 1006?

otherwise 21 aint much of an “older” when og quake guys like killsen etc are in their early 40s and last i checked (though not recently) still active.

thing is im seeing a distinct decline over the last couple decades when guys like don frye were “normal” at their craft and today you wonder how anyone would survive in the octagon against him.

the main difference though is (and I’m talking late 80s to early 2000s) people DID take gaming very serious as well as their skills.

thresh winning a ferrari at an id content was a literal god to us.

there was a fraction of what’s called “gamers” today and plebs were sure to hide themselves from competitions or public tournaments.

once you were “burned” that was it, better not show around there next time or you’d be ridiculed out the door real quick.

we had a couple game stores in our city which we roamed in circles when skipping school and those that ran their mouths and got beaten bad NEVER showed their hides ever again in those, despite being the only joints around.

buddy pirx once brought a co worker that wanted to test himself in doom deathmatch, the “schwule grüne bunsenbrenner” (gay green bunsen burner for he was easily fooled by the silent bfg shots) moniker stick to him 30 years after and will never be forgotten :squinting_face_with_tongue:

none, back then your skill was all the rep you had.

to admit needing such stuff was like outing yourself as a wuss.

testing stuff after beating the game legit was fine and later building your own maps profited from roaming freely with IDSPISPOPD and IDCLIP

as for

IDBEHOLD -R -A etc, a nono as well :face_with_tongue:

mind the different times, “admitting to weakness” did get you beaten up on the regular and no one gave a sht.

as well as did running your mouth too wildly as mike tyson eloquently put by people getting far too comfortable with bad behavior behind a monitor.

in that regard id say today doesn’t compare :man_shrugging:

quake

unreal

hexen

heretic

duke nukem 3d

blood

shadow warrior

soldier of fortune

kingpin

the list goes on and on.

timeless classics and far better than what’s currently around when compared by release schedule and playtime for money.

first person shooters lost big when companies dumbed down graphics and controls for consoles.

quake 3 had shared servers with dreamcast players for how many months before they realized controller vs m&k was lambs to the slaughter?

and don’t get me on how it was normal to drop 2-3k a year on hardware and get awesome graphics in return?

until console releases demanded their breadbox wasn’t allowed to look worse than on a high end pc…

some real old salt right there

better than my “auspex-button” lately

for as soon as those sanctuary doors open I hammer it like crazy to mark a site asap,

and still have folks ignore it on purpose :man_shrugging:

That’s the dark ages of gaming for me, a horrible time which were saved by the arrival of Dark Souls PRAISE THE SUN! \0/ I’m no longer getting treated like a baby!

I… wait… by the Gods, I’m turning 25 this year.

Thank you two for reminding me that 18-year-olds this year were born in 2008…

Oh, these old bones… the boy-MILF era is coming soon.

1_wliZJa3Vzr9dzPwgz0XiEw

wouldn’t that be a DILF then cause boy in that context reads pretty…

alas today’s terms and technicalities

amateur :squinting_face_with_tongue:

I don’t know man, that is such a small realism problem… While we have these literal elephants in the room like a bolt gun loading the same ammo as auto pistols. Or grenades not hurting you… they literally hurt space marines in SM2 but our billy noname characters just dance in the explosion… I say fix any of the above before an ogrin sized dog or an ogrin sized mutant cannot pin an ogrin sized ogrin. Have sent the net crackles with electricity? No muskle can block electricity the last time I checked or does ogrin have a rubber coating around its brain in lore?

no need for the muscle to do anything if skin tissue aint moist enough to serve as a conduit

check biba struja

This single change last patch made Ogryn ridiculously strong. If you make them immune to disablers in the right players hands they will be completely unkillable. Ogryn certainly doesn’t need anymore buffs after this, and honestly it probably needs to be toned down (tanking a Poxbursters explosion, without breaking toughness, and not even using an ult, in Havoc 40 is crazy).

Also people complaining about Cleaver damage do not play Krourk 4. It’s very strong right now, doubly so with the dodge change.

Nope bull butcher and it’s damage is very good but it can struggle with crusher spam also the dodge change should be reverted it wasn’t needed at all

totally agree!! Time has come to make the big of more powerful.
