Ogryn Weapon Variation and Two-Handed Weapons

Now that the class rework is out of the way. I hope the big man will get some love. I really like the new talents but the lack of two-handed weapons and shield variants (for example with bull butcher etc) is making me shift away from him even though I played him for a long time.

Clubs are boring in contrast to the bladed weapons which make the game visceral and more fun. (Personal preference, I know let me have my cake and eat it.)

The shield has too slow attack speed on light melee, it should be bumped up just a bit to make it more viable. Heavy melee is much superior so ogryn mains use it mostly. Also the talents to the heavy attack would further provide the grounding for 2-handed weapons.

Therefore I suggest that add to his weapon roster.

Melee

-Two handed chain Axe,
-Two handed Club
-Helicopter rotor (improvised bladed)
-Chainsword with smaller shield (buckler)
-the buckler shield cannot be ”planted” but would still provide some cover for the big man which is a big issue as the ogryn is a big target.
-2 power gauntlets
-2 handed wrench

Variants for the shield
-Bull butcher
-power gauntlet
-grenade gauntlet.
-knife
-chainsword/axe

Ranged
Kickback that can change between slug and normal shotgun, currently its the worst weapon in the arsenal. There is nothing that makes it appealing against rumbler.(which has much better dmg, brittleness etc can melt carapace and flak, also more range.)

Also for the love of god give us the cover armor and stop the greed with the MTX and FOMO and bring back the shop template from VT2 and compensate us for the Xbox debacle.

They do have Brute Shield, which are (Power) Suppression shields in lore

Of the proposed I think the Chain weapons don’t really fit, as they aren’t really known for using them due to being kinda bad at using those (To violent so they are giving blunt or strong weapons)

From various sources we could have: Flail (No idea if it’s supposed to be 1h or 2h); 2h Hammers; 2h Axes; 1h Axe; Spudjacker

Then we can add weapons from the GSC, notably the Industrial Power Hammer and Power Pick

While the Kickback need some buff again, there is a leaked/datamined variant that seem to simply be a slugger variant.

Already known that it’s gonna be for the penances, and a shop change wouldn’t be a compensation

Necromunda has rules for ogryns using a heavy rock saw. If that’s not a chain weapon expy i don’t know what is.

Which I think would look good as follow:

mH6I1vh
Ogryn (Siege) Drill Gauntlet | Ogryn (Rock) Saw Gauntlet
With or without shield, depending on how the animation can work

I would absolutely love it. Also I do not care if its 2-handed chain axe or a regular two handed axe. I just want to see the big man to be a monster in melee.

Also ranged could feature a cannon ripped out of a field howitzer or something with improvised handle or similar.

However I can see that everyone else is also waiting for the 2-handed weapons.

Perhaps the power claws could also be possible with shield?

Those well versed in lore any thoughts?

i want a bit of masonry that has a spike on it the ogryn uses the spike to impale an enemy he then uses them as a hammer untill it falls apart then he starst again

I think they are witholding it to make us buy the mtx skins. Its really grinding my gears.

However loved the idea of the power pick that would be fantastic addition to the ogryn. I really hope we get that, but 2 handed chain axe would be amazing, just having a heavily armored ogryn swinging that thing. The pick would be also so much fun, or a spiked 2 handed mace/sledge.

I would also settle for a buckler and a chain sword. Or literally anything new for the big man.

A shop change could make me start using it. They could give me all the Aquillas in the world and I wouldn’t set foot in it. I still have the coin they gave me for the Imperial edition.

A rock saw sounds like something an Ogryn would use

Give me this with a shield!!! oh please oh please oh please oh please.

I think that shield would also provide mobility to ogryn, because most maps have little viable cover (not counting corners). I really would like to see more melee weapons for him.

There us no way to close in with ogryn in you do not use him with charge/shield. I do like the current talents, its just that he could be so much more fun and varied if he would receive a little love (in the form of Big two-handed weapons or the supression shield and bladed weapons). Also the charge distance is quite short, I personally hope he would get a bit more distance to added to it.

His potential is underutilized and frankly a missed opportunity. Having the opportunity to be THE lumbering giant with a huge weapon would (IMO) satisfy most ogryn players. I find the ranged play style to be a bit of a miss for him due to how inaccurate stubbers are. (Also gorgonum sounds weak instead of a .50 cal, but hits hard).

I really want to play as the ogryn but the lack of the cosmetics to look like a proper bullgryn and missing 2h weapons makes him out to be a miss for me. (I mostly played my hours as ogryn)

To summarize my critique is in essence:

-lack of cover/ways to advance (map design also plays into this)
-lack of mobility, dodge distance(especially shield), sooo sooo slowwwwwww
-slow light attack with melee (shield)
-lack of staying power (in ranged)
-underwhelming melee (almost only clubs)
-shield is painfully slow to wield & attack
-lack of (cool) armor
-kickback is (still) useless, needs slug to be able to deal with mutants/trappers (include as secondary ammo that you can switch to, halve the ammo pool /split to slug / regular shell
-mutants/trappers will always murder you in melee when using shield (dodge distance, cannot dodge out of muties way due to big hitbox/small hallways/ or need to camp in corners: → not fun)

The good
-excellent talents (really good balance and variety of ways to play, love the nuke grenade)
-great /funny voice lines (especially Sah!)
-tanky
-can deal with carapace / elites
-can pull team members from a pinch
-can pull variety of roles (tank, fire support, melee)
-taunt is great and fun (BUT… suffers from the variety of shield + weapon)

I also hate the fact that the enemy crushers look so good but we have to run around in an oversized pyjama (was funny at first… but I want my guy to look like he means business, not like he is taking a nap during warp)

I have found the Kickback to be perfectly serviceable against mutants and trappers- it reloads fast enough to kill trappers even if the first shot just knocks them down, and… well, it’s no Rock when it comes to mutants, but that’s what Rock is for!

Shield definitely still suffers from low damage/clear and extremely poor mobility, but it at least seems to be moving in the right direction.
Definitely hoping for a Brute Shield, though.

The kickback is in a bad place right now, wait for next update, there are far better picks at the moment.

Not since the last update, damage and clear is good, really good with bleeds (double nerf next update), and a quick block/push for taunt w/ talent is divine.
Mobility is low but you keep things on their asses, and you swap to ranged for running.

Yeah, its much better now but I hope they retain the bleed where it is now.
Still muties are nigh unkillable. I still find it lacking that umph just tiny bump up to attack speed would make it perfect and then it should be left there.

The kickback is awful, I am really hoping for that slug to be introduced as secondary ammo. Tried it after the patch, it did not even kill a sniper from 7m its simply bad. Instead of deleting everything its just… universally bad. I really hope it would be better. (Obviously made worse by the crafting)

Currently many of the toughness talents are broken such as the one with the enemy push back it (I forget what the name is middle tree.)

It currenly seems to make you take the damage resulting in instant KO.

I have +20 damage on orange tier kickback with 4 tier blessings (expansive + all pellets hit) to max power. It wont kill them need at least 2-3 shots. I dunno how you do it but I cannot for the life of me get a good run with it. Its too slow, does not kill, and has poor ammo pool.

Rather Ill take a ripper and delete everything. Including carapace with the brittleness. There is no reason to use it, slug should change it if ever introduced.

Vet is also in a bad spot right now. As iron will is so far down the line, giving him plus 20+ ammo as a starting trait would change it. Or having the scavenger as a base trait would really help make him stand out. His toughness could also use a bump. He is soo soo squishy.

Hope the toughness bugs will get fixed soonish. Right now a massive pain.

I did not like the bump to the rager health, they already were quite tanky, now even more.

I was responding based on the patch notes- I still use and enjoy shield, but so much of its damage comes from bleeds that it’s actually got some deficiencies in toughness regen (bleed kills are not melee kills) although it’s also getting some core damage buffs as well. We’ll see how it plays out, but currently shield is uniquely vulnerable to trappers and mutants because of the movement and dodge debuffs.

Not sure I follow, current notes? Referring to the shield I take it, again, kickback is to be avoided; it’s bad ATM.

It doesn’t matter, you have the other 2 toughness talents that are very easy to take now, both of them together, you don’t need the toughness from kills or even confident anymore on shield.

Muties seem somewhat easier to dodge now, trappers still a PITA, whip out the ripper and reposition and slide backwards when you can.

Give me a Power Sledgehammer
