This is exactly why I just forget about them
I could be wrong but I don’t think you have to manually give players toughness back or yourself, kinda like the ogryn one it seemed to throw all the credit up even if the toughness was already full. I got it like 5 or so games, a Maelstrom with mutie/dog waves and the usual specialists on parade will give you literally 1000 shouts a game. The ogryn one was definitely much easier since it involved doing nothing and was over half way through the first game I put it on.
I hope you’re right. Also, the wording on these could definitely be clearer…
VoC has a low base cooldown of 30 seconds.
With Duty and Honour, VoC gives the strongest team buff in the game - overtoughness - for 15 seconds. The Tactical Awareness node is easily accessible no matter how you build your veteran. If you have +12% ability cooldown reduction on your curios, you only need to kill 2 specials to cast VoC again just as the golden toughness from the previous activation shuts down.
There’s not a single gameplay moment when you DON’T want golden toughness.
Using Only in Death… actually makes VoC worse at team support because of the shorter radius and 45s CD.
VoC also activates your red ability buff nodes.
VoC is also the most reliable CC in the game.
Basically, if you’re not spamming VoC you’re using it wrong.
VoC+Duty and Honour gives you +50 max toughness and instantly replenishes it, so you get at least +50 progress every time you press F. Which should be very often.
I was mostly complaining about the penance being “replenish your own toughness”, which is:
A) (Apparently) Not how the penance actually works, and
B) A terrible way to use the ability.
I don’t really use it in builds much because it’s just a super boring ability (which is the also why I complained about how I thought the penance was supposed to work).
Veteran is mostly boring tbh. I use it with the weapon specialist capstone because CQC is intrinsically fun, so it works for me.
Every penance is a grind, that’s why they added them to the game.
while i enjoy the rewards that the penances bring/brought, i still don’t actively try to complete them. i was never into grinding for trophies, achievements, challenges, etc… if they happen to get done, then they get done but they generally turn my gaming experience into stress and frustration, especially when i just missed one by a very small margin.
i’d rather enjoy my game over forcing myself to play just to get something; that’s what the weapon crafting turned into for me after a while. i got lucky with my weapons and while they’re not perfect, they’re really good and i’m content with them and don’t feel the need to grind for gear and resources in the hopes of finding something better. if i happen to find better stuff then that’d be great, but just like the penances, i’m not actively going out of my way to get them.
I am too autistic to play the game until I finish all side quests first. that said im 30 PP points away from 4500 moving from ogryn to vet was a good choice.
