Ogryn penances are too grindy

This is, to me, the crux of the problem. To get the penances done quickly means being a detriment to the team.
I would personally advise ignoring the penances and just getting them slowly and naturally, but thats just not how people work and that advice will be ignored, completely understandably!

Idk what the solution is.

It teaches you to taunt, when a lot of specials/elites are around.

When else would you taunt? When you have a horde of trash mobs?

I guess the main problem is the N requirement.

If you’re not playing Auric it gets grindy as hell.

Thats the idea yes.

But the reality is it causes people to put themselves in situations with as many elites as they can and taunt as many as they can at once to get the penance over with as soon as they can.

So instead of taunting elites gradually in the right situations, people will instead wait a few extra seconds to get that extra special in range, or to run in to the middle to catch as many as possible in the taunt.

Like many things, the intended purpose doesnt get the intended results.

Compared to the ones for the other classes Ogryns are super grindy for no reason.

But the one where you have to waste your frag bomb is just an insult.

I have thought about it but I will not buy the game twice just so i can play by myself. my behavior in penance doing will remain toxic until they add solo play or they reduce them or i finish.
hate the game not the player

I have a theory that the playtesters actually requested that they be made that grindy so people are forced to play ogryn longer. since ogryn is the least played class that might be intentional.

It’s honestly not that bad, I got 450 taunts out of a single CIVI, cannot recommend that enough. Also the pox hounds modifier makes it pretty easy as well.

On paper it sounds good, encouraging people to drop their frag bomb on a team that is over run… But I reality people are just hurling them at any horde they see in hopes to finish it.

Embrace the crab walk. I averaged at around 300-500 kills per mission on auric mael simply by dodging and crab walking for movement. Except for one match most of my pub team understood my plight.

The taunt thing wasn’t bad for me, I love that ult. But the Heavy Hitter and Lucky Bullet proc ones, yeah they’re something alright. I had to completely change my builds around them and have been grinding them among others for idk over a week now and still nowhere near done.

The Lucky Bullet ofc. needed the Achlys Stubber, since proccing that thing on a Ripper nevermind a Kickback was obviously going to take forever. Also was not a fan of the deep shame I felt for wasting bullets like that.

With Heavy Hitter I’ve done shovel builds, Shields, Clubs etc. yet barely get more than a few hundred per match since it resets so quickly. Typical heavy builds are all about slow massive hits so it takes a long while just to get the 5 stacks up, only to have them reset over the slightest delays and between every single group of enemies. Someone here said they did it with Cleaver IV and honestly that’s probably a good idea just for that speed.

That’s not to say the other classes don’t have some ridiculously grindy ones too. But after starting to actually focus on the skulls & other non-class penances I just now finally got the 4500 done for those last cosmetics. Beyond the Sage title for the Archivum missions I couldn’t care less about the penances I have left anymore.

Still, I hate to admit it but overall it’s actually been kinda fun being forced to do different things than I normally would and planning builds around that. :sweat_smile:

Idk, I’ve done all of them and the worst of all by far seemed to be heavy hitter.

That’s exactly what the taunt ability purpose is, how can you call it griefing?
Also the heavy hitter one is very simple, you just need to use a weapon with spammable heavy attack in horde. I did mine with Power Maul in a few games, it’s very satisfying to se their head pop like balloons.

There are a few penances that are badly balanced, or that teach the player to do stupid things.

Despite that, half of the penance related complaints are about penances that are completely fine, and seem to come from players who apparently did not spend a single thought on how they could change their loadout to make the penances easier to complete.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that mod. What text do you need to import? The names? Couple of diff ways to do it but OTOH besides mod settings and reloading mods after edits, you can “execute” an arbitrary LUA file with text values (strings) in a list (table/array)
e.g. a “/text” command in a mod

mod:command("text", "import text", function()
	mod:io_dofile("text/scripts/mods/text/text_settings")

and text_settings.lua:

Nah for MMT the associated website literally has a chat command to use like:

Right under the mission that you’re looking at.
It’s built into the mod so you can just paste that in the chat window and it’ll register the mission that little code came with. To be fair though it also taught me that the morning star even HAS a chat window. Never seen someone type in there so I’m not surprised someone might miss this

Now I’m wondering how easy Psyker penances are.

FAR FAR easier only one that took more than 3/4 games was the wall penance and that was because i didnt get very lucky with gunners/reapers in the missions

I just don’t take that much damage. If I’m not deliberately gimping the run for the penance, I almost never use this ability to restore my own toughness. It’s for teammate rescuing, and the penance should reflect that.

If I use it normally, instead of how the penance seems to want me to use it, it’ll take actual weeks to get this one.

eh its not so bad its so spamable its easier to get.
I just have kraks and weapon spec left for vet so far I cheesed marksmans focus by spending 30 minutes crouching in melee killing the infinite spawns in mercantile HL-whatever
