Off-Topic Fridays: There’s a Zombie Apocalypse. You Have Ten Minutes to Leave Home. Which Three Items Are You Taking?

Hello and welcome back to Off-Topic Fridays!

You might be wondering, what is this? Well, long before John Darktide had been born, every Friday I’d present the community with a random question and we’d have a wholesome chat. That’s about it.

This week’s question is:

There’s a zombie apocalypse, and you have ten minutes to leave home. Which three items are you taking with you?

We’ll exclude people and pets, let’s assume they’re coming along for the ride - even your hamster.

Keep it SFW :eyes:

Hundreds of hours of Project Zomboid have prepared me for this…

Definitely a sturdy knife and a hammer. Invaluable tools for tons of things, both survival and defense related. I’d want to book it into the wilderness ASAP, less people = less zombies.

For the third one… probably a lighter? Or something to produce fire with in general, whatever lasts longest that I can pick up in a hurry. Will need it to just plain survive at first if I make it outta the city.

Most likely, though, I’d just die in a panic without accomplishing anything, let’s be real, bahahaha.

I haven’t put too much thought in to this and would also likely become part of the “die in a panic” statistic!

  • A pot to boil water in, could also serve as a weapon for head bonking
  • Matches or lighter
  • A big coat

Assuming Zombies act as they do in most media, a longsword, some solid armour and mres.

Oo, would have to be…

  • A map of the country :world_map:
  • Big ole travel bag for further supplies :pouch:
  • Hatchet for some wood and zombie choppin’ :axe:

Of course I’d be filling the bag with a lot more than 3 items in the hour given, but yee

You’re right, one hour is too long. I’m reducing it to ten minutes!

You already own some solid armour and a longsword? :face_with_peeking_eye:

I’m having trouble thinking of my answer so instead I’ll share this little anecdote.

I have a younger sister who has always played a bunch of survivor games and she regularly watched horror movies, apocalypse movies, etc. while growing up.

Because of this, whenever I have any dream related to zombies/dystopian settings, my dream self immediately finds my sister no matter what’s happening LOL.

This has been a recurring thing for years now. :joy: I always find her.

TL;DR I’d bring whatever the hell my sister told me to bring.

Oh goody this sounds like a good bit of fun.

Good choices would be a crowbar for self-defense and multipurpose tool use, a hiking bag to store stuff, and a bicycle to move with.

Boring and practical, but that’s what it takes if I suddenly have ten minutes to get the hell out of dodge.

Though if there’s anything Atom Zombie Smasher has taught me, it’s that the best weapon against any zombie apocalypse will always be heavy artillery.

Only 3?
Bicycle, multitool and a zippo lighter.

Honestly though, I would grab my karkoff backpack (B.O.B. - Bug Out Backpack) first.
Buuut… since it contains multiple items, I think it’s cheating.

I live in a major city, and have no outdoorsmanship skills.

Leather coat, hammer, and knobkerrie. I figure I can take down a few before I go down, because I’ve got no illusions about my long-term survival prospects.

This is easy.

My SteamDeck, so I can play Darktide (until the Devs get eaten).

My guitar so I can play music and sing to the zombies.

A pipe, so I can smoke and forget the zombies.

Something about this reminds me about the gentleman’s prayer from middle school.

Woah that Friday idea was lit…

If i had to leave the bug out bag, the AR and the good book.

…but if the world is ending from a zombie apocolypse I’d probably have more fun fortifying my home for a last stand mode.
