Not enough differences between skins in relation to body types

If I see a psyker running around with Aviators they’re going to come down with the classic case of “They got shot 30 times in the back with a las rifle there was nothing I could do.”

I mean, same deal here. I won’t be buying cosmetics that don’t make sense.

There should be different male and female torsos.

What’s funny is that on some models you linked you can see that there are differences, so from a software perspective it is a different model entirely. So they have the capability, they’re just being lazy when it comes to modeling, trying to make a one size fits all solution.

this is how my female veteran looks with the new 21st moebian skin

not so different from Vin Diesel in chronacles of Riddick

Then there is based Fromsoftware adapting bodies to their skins

Yes, you heard right, they adapt the bodies to the skins, not the other way around

and of course thicker armors looks just as the male counterparts, as they should

I’ll get buried in dirt for this, but IMO it’s better this way.

I don’t think in the imperium they give 2 sh*ts about how your armor fits or to have a male/female version of armor: you get the armor taken from the first corpse found on the battlefield.

Even the Sisters are pretty much shown as female just because they have boob armor

no yours is a good point, especially for these particular gloves argument

but the main issue is that this:

just downgrade to this:

Fashion plays a huge role in the Imperium - nobility, different regiments uniforms, most of the time it goes with planetary traditions. In fact fashion means so much that become impractical.

you get the armor taken from the first corpse found on the battlefield

Eh? On some post-apocalypse death world full of techno-barbarians it’s maybe so. Other way there are forge worlds producing shittones of ammunitions.

Nope, it’s the whole silhouette. Shoulders/pelvis proportions, leg/torso ratio aswell as slight leg curvyness. Both on minis and official arts it’s a clear female silhouette.

Yeah, that’s easily seen when you change your cosmetics and see your character being rebuilt the in MS and it’s made of pieces, the male and female have simply the same pieces of armor.

We are disposable rejects, not really the top of the line of fashion.

In the fanart, sure, in the minis not so much.

The issue arises from the backstory: being unnamed rejects instead of fully developed characters they are not going to develop armor stylized for any particular body.

If 2 characters were male and 2 female I bet we would see more details in making them fit the different body types.

A-sized girls cheering for finally getting representation.

Only at the start. Game “story” is about prison dweller become a member of the Inquisitorial strike team, even guards in the hub start call us heroes of atoma, upon reaching level 30. We aren’t a penal legion soldiers. That’s why you don’t have access for shops at lvl 1, you are a cannon fodder, but only at first. With leveling you act more like an operator - you buy “armor” and weapons you want and ask Hadron to tune it for you.

Not even saying about access for such things like bolter, plasma, power sword, eviscerator etc.

It’s an official art used by GW

Cause of minis scale partialy, still without faces and boob-armor you can say it’s a female shape, you can say it even just looking at legs, lol

It ends with traitor’s death arc.

There is no “backstory” reason, it’s just like female body type was done not as an equal choice in mind, but just for the record. Or as armor sets was made by outsource artist who didn’t know there will be both males and females.

Hi, Desrocchi.
I understand your argument, but I’m afraid it’s way off track: the problem isn’t the armour, but the bodies. Even if hard armour, such as flak armour, is unisex, there should still be a difference in how it fits the body, and in any case this should not magically alter the proportions of the body itself. Even more so if it is light clothing.
In this last regard I would like to show a concept art taken from Darktide itself.

The image speaks for itself: the Psyker is clearly female. So, at least originally, the idea was to make visibly different skins for the two body types.
That said, I agree with Weeping Moon’s observations. I fear that there is no basis in lore regarding this issue: I rather fear that it is simply a flaw in the models. A flaw which I hope will soon be addressed.

If they don’t bother modeling armor for female proportions, I won’t bother buying them. Simple as.

I just want to know when my male vet gets a big Inquisition I logo swinging between his legs on a chain.

Don’t forget the Thunder Hammer and Force weapons!

You are correct, of course. But the game has to maintain a fine balance between our heroes being despised karking hobos and the actual players wanting to wield iconic weapons.

But if they wanted to maintain that theme, why do they have Rannick tell us we are full members of the warband after we reach level 30? This is a huge problem I have with the game’s narrative, is that it can’t seem to decide if we are supposed to ALWAYS be extremely expendable, penal legion level fodder (Inquisition Stormtroopers are always expendable, but I mean more than usual) or if we are now accepted members of the operation, and offered more in the way of everything.

The cosmetics actually represent that dilemma well.

If this was an early 2000’s story-driven game, you would unlock / upgrade the armor pieces from the prison stuff we start out with to the penance garbs we can unlock and then go from there to the premium cosmetics as a sign of power.

Thematically this is clearly the route the designers were going for, but since they sell the cosmetics as a direct unlock, the entire vision from a story point gets undermined right there.

I allow myself to give the game some slack in that direction. I want to build my own fantasy for my characters, and the premium cosmetics and weapons that our characters shouldn’t be allowed to even look at help me with that. It adds to replayability, it’s fun, and I like it.

It would be nice to see further story development, though.

EDIT: sorry, I replied to the wrong post.

Just for the record, I would also like to show you the visible difference between Lieutenant Mira’s model and those of the male Guardsmen in the epic Space Marine video game.

Personally, this is the kind of difference I would like to see in Darktide. If this has already been done way back in 2011, I don’t understand why it shouldn’t be done now.

Cause golden age era of gaming. The fact SM was made by studio that was all about RTS genre is kinda insane, especially in comaprison how nowadays studios are feared of any risks.
