I mean, I will be honest with you @adam.szitas, I’m biased because am a breed of oldf… old times player.
Back in the 90’s and early 2000’s, the “easy” difficulty was hard, the “medium” difficulty was really challenging and the “hard / pro” difficulty was something you’d clear after having the Game Over screen seen some odd 20 times at least.
Think the old Resident Evil 4. And I believe it was a great thing. Why? Because it really got the adrenaline pumping and it challenged you to grow.
There was no punch pulling and no rebalance patches. You either figured it out or you got roasted like a marinated chicken at the Thanksgiving family event.
Now I believe that such Game design is great. Challenge the player, make them think, make them twitch, make them go all out. And at first you’ll rage, but when it finally clicks, you will feel awesome.
I know you’re angry adam, you feel your previous experience has been unfairly nulled or hampered. But stay with me here.
Go back into Damnation. Face the onslaught. When you inevitably fail at first, don’t be upset. It’s part of the process. You too will become one of us.
And when you finally dodge gunner spam with easy, headshot snipers on the side as you quickswap between melee and ranged - You will finally have reached enlightenment.
You will be truly a Gamer to rival all gamers. And you will have the confidence knowing that you by yourself, without a helping hand, mastered the challenge.
You will have become PRO.
No, the point is, where is the fun i haved two weeks ago ?
Why do i play only a few build and weapons to win not like two week ago ?
You only say “play more, become élite, blabla” i dont want to play more because i don’t have time.
And i don’t want to play malice because it’s not even fun and it sucks when it come to plasteel.
The level of egocentism are realy insane in this topic. “In my time games was really difficult” blablabla. I have 39yo and i play since my 6yo. But i have a live and not the same free time since my 16. And, lot of difficulty was from bad game mecanics or limit like no save, no good controler or bad level disign.
I understand your frustration, but you are kind of being egocentric yourself. People are telling you that they don’t observe the drastic difficulty increase that you talk about. They are telling you that if you and your buddies try to adapt and learn a new trick or two, you can still have fun. Don’t you find learning new things fun? Instead, it seems that your reply to that is “I didn’t come asking for your advice, I just want my effortless plasteel and to play the game the way I used to play it”.
Not that anyone asked, but I returned to the game after not playing it for ~6 months. There was no auric back then. To me, t5 feels pretty much the same as it was half a year ago in terms of difficulty. Overall, there are more specialists in each encounter, but now we have two additional ults and blitz per class, so I figured the new tools should be enough to deal with the encounters. I adjusted my old builds from half a year ago and still consistently win regular t5 with pugs. I’m not a very good player, just a decent one, but I learned the basic skill set of the game, and it still carries me. I’ve met really good players, so I know what I’m talking about. I don’t even have all the current meta weapons because, as you can imagine, the meta has shifted quite a bit in half a year, but the gacha crafting system is still the same mess. I didn’t change my gameplay tactics one bit from half a year ago. Dodge sliding, repositioning, hiding behind covers, using your blitz and ultimate while remaining calm so that you can see what’s going on around you and your teammates still work for me.
I find the new spawns to be tip over to unfun rather than difficult. A part of it is the faulty audio cues, but I personally think the ragers and crushers are implemented poorly and aren’t fun to fight when they constantly come in packs of 3-10.
It’s the new stagger resistance of theirs. Before, a well placed headshot with most melee weapons would get them out of their combo. Now it doesn’t, exceptions aside. So they just annihilate you in seconds.
I like that they’re dangeorous close up, but the buff to HP and Stagger resist both was a bit over the top.
And the increased spawn rate. That, the buffs and the near silence of them all together make them unfun. I wouldn’t mind there being an increased roaming elites or an actual elite horde modifier, but having a pack of elites in every wave of a horde feels predictable, ham-fisted and overbearing. The way hordes come in waves doesn’t really help either.
The only real problem is the silence of the ragers. Especially on power-failure/ventilation-purge missions. Having 4-8 ninja ragers inside a group of poxwalkers is crazy. In VT2 all the berserkers made a lot of noise.
teams not making sounds has been a minor detail for the whole of darktide. there’s just more teams now. i think it was a choice between “team spawns, audio cues render everything else hidden and impossible to judge” and “team spawns, is muted because we can’t change the audioline rate”.
It’s probably not intentional, but, silent or very quiet spawns would be more realistic in a way – it might make a good maelstrom modifier. Like… maybe they finally hired some trappers who are smart enough not to cackle wildly about the net they’ve got just for you? Maybe they found a bomber who doesn’t shout GRENAIIIIIIIDE every time he throws a grenade?
There is a team i play with on occasian that for roleplay reasons run only guard vets with las based weapons and we have gone through all 5 difficulties no problem. Not gone into Auric but everything non auric is completely possible psyker or no pskyer.
It’s simple then, go back to play sedition and let us enjoy damnation as it is instead of demanding that this already casual game becomes even more casual.
If the main thing you’re unhappy with is the rewards, perhaps the solution here is just to bump up plasteel rewards across the board, so that T4 rewards what T5 does now. Imo that’s a good idea anyway, just because there’s always been a plasteel shortage and it’s annoying – why not just inflate the numbers a little bit?
