New weapons

when will we get the heavy bolter, or any other range weapons for the ogryn or the hotshot lasgun for veteran

New weapons? why would you need new weapons? You’ve already got the good old plasma gun, it’s already in the game!

As much as everyone wants new weapons and has since launch I don’t hold out hope for them any time soon if the above Gloriana good old plasma gun debacle, dev time being spent on paid classes and the phoned in mess that is expeditions are anything to go by.

There are so many weapons that Tubby Tuna could and should of introduced by now. Where’s the melta gun? Ogryn autocannon, Vet + Arb stubbers? Scum Needle rifles and chem throwers?Psyker staffs etc etc etc, but instead the best they can put out is slightly different flavours of bolt pistol and power swords. Smh.

I want a new staff soooo bad. It’s literally been since launch. I would accept copy-pasta from VT2 Sienna at this point.

If you’re fine with cope Arby Castigator stance with bolter sometimes hits that Heavy Bolter itch.

All the effort that went into new weapons has been folded into ‘we can sell this as a new class’ stuff.

Why do you think Hive Scum exists? It was an easy way to sell shivs, crowbars, bonesaws, and other junk as a weapons pack.

I’m not sure we will, at least with these two specific examples. Ogryns toting crew served heavy weapons is mostly a thing taken from a (now dead) Fantasy Flight Games RPG with otherwise relatively little rules/models/visual support in tabletop 40k. Veteran weapons in Darktide largely appear to be based on what a basic guard Infantry Squad can take. While this can include items such as power weapons and plasma guns, it does not include Hotshot weapons if that’s how FS is defining their weapons pool. Could be wrong, but looking at the game to date that’s kinda my gut feel on these.

The eternal question for the Meltagun is what would it do that a Plasma Gun doesn’t already do with twice the rate of fire and comparatively infinite range? For the enemy set that exists in Darktide none of them are really targets you’d bring a Meltagun for, if you were to build a tabletop army to fight an opposing army of traitor guardsmen, renegade ogryn, and Chaos Spawn, you probably wouldn’t bring a single Melta weapon. SM2 ended up essentially “reimagining” the weapon as a cone AoE blast to make it work, which I guess Darktide could do, but otherwise it’s hard to see where a Meltagun would be tremendously useful if they kept largely true to its function.

The Long Las is an option that feels like it could fit…but in a game where you almost never have LoS beyond a few dozen meters, it’s hard to find a niche for a dedicated long range sniper weapon.

The melta gun would do exactly what it says on the tin. Melt things. They may have similar jobs but it’s role is suitably different enough to a plasma guns to warrant implementation.

Using the SM1&2 cone example gives you an anti carapace weapon with a large aoe. Alternatively a beam variant or weapon special would focus the melta gun for a narrower and condensed shot with more stopping power and cleave. In a game where the armoured carapace enemy set that exists is spammed constantly within that LoS of a few dozen meters that you mention, the melta gun becomes an obvious choice. The higher up in difficulty you go the more return on investment it provides.

Maulers and rangers? melta gun.
Crushers? melta gun.
Bulwark shields? melta gun.
Rotten armour? Believe it or not melta gun.

Regarding the tabletop I can only speak from the viewpoint of someone who worked at GW so I might be uniformed on some things. Against such a list the weapon you’d likely be bringing is neither the plasma gun or the melta but instead the cheaper and more versatile grenade launcher ( Which is also missing from Darktide) Nonetheless, melta guns have been universally good at cracking armour across the editions. Depending on the edition played a case could be made for the melta gun. Being str 8 the melta gun would be instant deathing all those multi wound renegade ogryns and characters, certainly very useful.

If you’ll allow me to be slightly tongue in cheek here regarding the Long las…The eternal question for the Long las is what would it do that a Helbore, boltgun or revolver doesn’t already do with twice the rate of fire and comparable ranges?

I would also really like more weapons! (I would also like the current weapons, weapon marks, and weapon blessings to be properly balanced).

Much as I like Hive Scum and Arbites, our book-keeper’s got a point. In 2024 we were being treated fairly well in the new weapons department with Secrets of the Machine God giving us Ogryn Picks, Shock Mauls, Bolt Pistol, and DB Shotgun; Grim Protocols also gave us Relic Blade/Force Greatsword and Ogryn Stubber/DMR. One year later and all we got was Power Falchion, a weapon so similar to the Relic Blade that I have to wonder why it couldn’t have come out in the Grim Protocols update, and a new mark for the Boltgun/Pistol.

You’d think that a game mode that flirts with wider map design like Expeditions would feature weapons that would take advantage of long-ranged combat like Longlas or other new ranged goodies, but given that we received f***ing nothing for new weapons just like in the debut of the Mortis Trials last year, I suspect that 2026 will be a repeat of 2025: More effort being placed in making new classes while the ones we already own will get comparative table scraps.

For me the biggest sign that Fatshark doesn’t give a flying s**t is if we see them try to sell a Stormtrooper/Scion class with Hotshot weapons after years of people clamoring for Vet to get these weapons.

Because these tools are used as weapons by the genestealer cults. Their armory is mostly refurbished mining gear.

Someting similar to the Ogryn grenade gauntlet but the weapon special unleash a devastating but short range melee attack.

Hell yeah that’s cool. I’ve always thought that Fire should be the zealot’s trademark DoT, like Soulfire is to Psyker, and Toxin to Hivescum. Bleed is kind of for everyone, so it’s a missed opportunity to give the zealot something unique.
