I know people really wanted the smoke effect to be reduced as it was obscuring vision, but honestly the new smoke effects look awful. It’s practically invisible, holds no visual weight, and I can’t tell whether I’m inside or outside. It looks ugly, feels weak, and comes across as cheap.
I think there should be a ‘smoke density’ slider or dropdown option in the graphics settings so people can choose their preference.
Forcing everyone to downgrade their graphics just because a few people complained about it feels a bit harsh, especially when it could’ve been made a choice. Maybe I’m being a bit petty, but it has kind of put me off the game honestly.
most other multiplayer games with severe effects have a slider or other options to tune them down. that’s really what they should do instead of just kicking visual design in the balls. people who like the style over the visibility can leave them at 100%, people who don’t can tune the effects down, preferably per effect
At present, smoke grenades are buffs applied to players, meaning players must remain standing within the smoke for them to take effect.
I think if we changed this to work like in other games—where blocking the player’s line of sight is sufficient for the effect to take hold (including whilst standing in the smoke)—it would actually reduce the number of situations where you feel the smoke grenade is working, yet enemy soldiers are still able to shoot you.
Of course, this might make smoke grenades too powerful; balancing the game is truly a delicate balancing act.
Hey I’m not quite sure what you mean? Do you mean if the smoke is placed between the players and the enemy in order to block the line of sight from both ends? If I remember correctly, I think the game already works like that. Also I noticed you are using those dashes, are you using ChatGPT…?
This is simply my personal typing style; I tend to use formal writing conventions and punctuation. It’s largely down to the nature of my work. As for using ChatGPT for such a short piece of personal opinion, I’m afraid the prompt I’d have to write would be longer than what I actually want to say.
Returning to the veteran’s smoke grenade: the smoke grenade’s effect is actually divided into two parts—the inner_radius and the outer_radius. The inner_radius is effective simply by blocking the line of sight between the enemy and the player, whilst the outer_radius is effective as long as the player is within its range. However, the inner_radius is significantly smaller than the outer_radius, yet the smoke effect is rendered based on the outer_radius. This often leads players to feel that ‘enemies have their vision obscured by the smoke, yet they still shoot at me. It only works when I step into the smoke myself’. I would therefore simply suggest that Fatshark standardise these two values. Furthermore, whether an enemy loses line of sight whilst within the smoke is also determined by the inner_radius; consequently, situations may arise where enemies continue to fire even whilst clearly within the smoke effect.
Hell, I was looking for a way to get rid of the smokey atmospherics entirely. Half the time one can’t see what one is shooting at even outside Vent Purges.
And that’s just in general. Vet smoke grenades are kinda fine. Actually do not see them used that often.
Well I’d argue that people like you who have complained have now ruined the game for everyone else (thanks ). If Fatshark wanted to address the complaints they could’ve done so without disrupting others gameplay experience. Now everyone has been forced to downgrade their graphics and deal with an almost non-existent VFX that makes the grenade pretty much useless. They need to add an option so people can choose their preference because at the minute it is ugly and broken.
You are bad at trolling. I predicted exactly what you were going to write. Nice try provoking me though, not going to work. Reported for spam and blocked forever
If a Fatshark forum moderator is reading this, is there any way to restrict certain users from participating in the threads I create?
I’m trying to keep this thread focused and constructive, and I’d prefer to avoid replies that are only intended to provoke reactions rather than contribute to the discussion.
