New content is great, but what about cosmetics?

I get that you’re trying to be whatever by twisting your argument into a weird callback to, and scathing critique of, my stance on mod usage, but it’s falling flat for me!

Anyway, I don’t really remember not being able to buy individual pieces. Here’s a Reddit post from 2 days after launch with people saying you could buy them individually.

Just your imagination, I genuinely believe this. No need to be defensive.

I stand corrected on the bundle thing. I guess it was just severely hidden instead of actually not possible. I just looked at it, saw there’s no individual purchase button but it’s marked as a bundle discount and figured “cool, thats illegal” and clicked out of the store

I have my favorite pieces that I use frequently, but sometimes I just scroll through and click on something random and try to match it with some other pieces, other times I just want to make the characters look as ridiculous as possible.

Speaking of I would like them to add a randomize button for the equipped cosmetics.

Cosmetics are made by some outsource chinese company, the only thing you will support is Tencent probably, and it will lead to more ugly and overpriced cosmetics drops, not gampelay and content features.

Suits will just say “see our buisness strategy and customer approach done right keep that conveyor rolling boyz” and buy a new yacht for bonus revenue they got.

Yeah I just really like feeding bears, I love bears. What do you mean the bears will start seeking out humans? That’s not my fault. I just feed them because I love them, plus if someone else feeds them they start seeking out humans too, so it’s not my fault.

lol ANYway…

Another possible reason for having so few weapon skins when it is, as Reguah mentioned, possible to swap them quite easily with the wide variety of colors/patterns in the game is because maybe possibly there’s some hope/chance of a feature for applying paints to weapons. Wishful thinking, I’m sure, but I continue to be utterly confused by the lack of weapon skins.

Sure would be a crowd-pleaser!

That’s a great idea Badwin, it was just as good when it was the cope 2 years ago!

But…but…with PS5 release game is out from the early access…right?

Fair point if that’s what they do, I agree that the cosmetics are overpriced, but not all of them are ugly.

And if they make cosmetics that you find cool and in the quality you want, would you buy it then?
If so wouldn’t that make you part of the MTX problem that so many games have today? Even if you just buy a single skin that you think look cool, someone might like a skin you think is ugly and buy that instead.

My Proposal:

・all recolors of the same base model and simple symbol additions (e.g., purity seals or skulls) should be offered as rewards for Penances or sold in the item shop.
・completely original designs that differ significantly from the base model should be sold in the premium cosmetics shop. since creating original designs takes considerable effort, the current two-week rotation could be replaced with a longer cycle, such as one month.

You’re not asking me but I’ll answer this too

no I wouldn’t

because

exactly

Consumers can have self control.

The reality of the thread is that you’re asking for free cosmetics while paying for every single premium cosmetic. What do you think a Fatshark business strategist would think upon seeing that request? I can’t know for sure, but I’d bet it’s something like

now why on earth would we do that if he’s going to buy them anyway?

The purity seals, and other trinket-style additions to cosmetics, as badges of honor is a great idea. Love it!

Exactly.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

The only actionable tool we as consumers have is our wallet. Feedback certainly doesn’t do jackshit, unless it’s the majority and it’s on the verge of becoming a PR nightmare.
Good luck trying to get any momentum on that with people like Badwin rallying the defense force and blowing up smoke in a malicious dev’s butt every chance they get.

If OP wanted the things he proposes to be implemented he’d just have to do one thing: Nothing. Not buy a single cosmetic until it’s fixed. But he simply won’t because he can’t.

Self control and discipline let alone patience aren’t in fashion these days with the gaming crowd. One has to consume. And consume they will.

Having a limited amount of the cosmetics available for purchase is what makes the store so contemptible. A one month cycle would just make it worse when they do a release like the last one that so many people hated. The people with no self control will buy everything the first day and everyone else will have longer to wait for another offering.

And while I’m an advocate for offering all cosmetics at once to eliminate the unethical system they’re embracing, they likely won’t do away with FOMO / artificial rarity practices as long as it’s legal.

If everyone did it, maybe. But if just he or you or I did it? Or if he or you or I just didn’t buy every cosmetic? Nothing would change. How much of an effect do you think individuals have?

This is video games. It’s a hobby. The things you can buy in the shop do not affect gameplay in any way. If they did, I’d have very different opinions about them. But they’re just candy, toys. Something fun and shiny you can throw a few bucks at and enjoy. And, believe it or not, some people want to throw money at Fatshark because they think they do a good job and have made a great product that those people want to see continue.

Good luck trying to get momentum by busting up into a thread, picking a tiny side note out of it, and telling the OP:

It’s not binary. This is what credibility and reputation are for.

I will not buy cosmetics untill it’s maybe extremely cheap. Reason - i don’t like Fatshark antiplayer approach. I bought some cosmetics in V2 after it became good and more or less stable game.

But with DT they dropped quality on release again and maybe even harder than with V2. And it’s their 3rd game and 3rd Tide game for me.

The whole game was built upon the player retention mechanics - rng craft, destiny 2 alike hub, timer in the armory, how missionboard works. Things like aquillas pack for xbox players only, and just poor technical quality overall like reappearing sound bugs.

Finaly the biggest problem - crafting and itemization was fixed 2 years later. Should’ve been fixed in 6 monthes or not be a problem from the start, but atleast they fixed it and now we can put some good faith in them.

But the thing is cosmetics will not become any good, cause it’s not the purpose.

Look at V2 PvP was released recently, skaven globadier has a premium skin that changes not only how globadier looks but also globe he throws.

Is there any zealot skin that changes how relic looks or throwing knives? No wonder if they will sell premium Friendly Rock skin for 20$, lol.

Look at some of V2 premium cosmetics, art design is on another level - moving parts, glowing effects, attention to details. Sure some are simplistic and average, but price is different aswell.

The whole thing they drop trailers for V2 cosmetics, but not for DT.

People buy pricy PoE cosmetics cause the ammount of free content GGG drops would cost more if it was paid.

Yea, my point is that it’s possible the inexplicable things we see – like how there are so few weapon cosmetics when truly simple texture swaps are well within reach – might be indicative of the fact that there are plans to address those things in meaningful ways. Like how, yes, FS could have just broken locks forever ago, but they had a vision for a 1000% improved itemization system and so they took the time to execute that the way they wanted to.

This is part of what bugs me so much about Darktide… that Vermintide 2 is doing so many things right, still gets more love, and is an older game. How siloed are these two teams that there is seemingly so little cross-pollination of creativity and soul.

This couldn’t be more wrong. Entire games and mechanics are built around MTX shops. Trying to claim that it’s just a shiny toy that doesn’t affect and hurt anything in the current year is not just argueing in bad faith, it’s plain and simply stupid.

Back to the that insufferable argument. This is exactly why it’s not worth argueing with you. Thank god not everyone in the world thinks like that otherwise we’d probably get nothing done.

Ah right, because the positive changes the game received were mostly caused by telling FS how great a job their doing. If things are sht you’re allowed to call them what they are.

Sugercoating everything whilst throwing copious amounts of money at a dev and expecting things to change is insanity.

As I said in the first post. What the hell is wrong with you?

And it has been possible for 2 years. The possibilities are truly endless

Yeah, and FS could have just been selling low effort recolors, but they had a vision for a 1000% improved paintjob system and so… Ah, hold on.
Ah…
