Nerf everything

As soon as this most recent balance hotfix was announced, the forums started filling with people asking for new things to get nerfed. Things that nobody had cared about before.

I swear, there’s a subset of gamers that aren’t happy unless they’re on the forums trying to get sonething, anything, nerfed. In every game.

Chill! Play the game for a month after the changes before you start crying for new nerfs!

Can you name me 1 example of this? Because I feel 90% of the “things no one cared about before” were mentioned extensively in the past as well

Projection

People are bringing up overperforming stuff constantly, and typically provide constructive feedback while doing so.

Cry some more.

Also, there is no need to wait a month to test things, if there’s still things that previously were, and still are overperforming in the present state of the game.

Shield Ogryn and the taunt. I named two now.

Nah, they are now saying to nerf shield ogryn and the taunt. It is not projection, but the truth of the matter. I swear these so called players are just complainers that almost never play the game, just wish to make it worse and end the fun.

When you just go on the forum to just nerf everything, it is no longer constructive feedback.

Those are trolls.

Someone is mad so they’re trying to fake a “they just want to nerf everything” narrative. But look at the popularity of some of those threads. Dead pretty much.

The more popular thread was “what bad stuff should be buffed”. Sure, some things do still need nerfs. But its going to take a second for the analysis to settle after so many changes.

They are still calling for a nerf. Yeah, sure trolling.

Here is another one that I have seen: Someone calling for the combat knife to be nerfed.

Look, I’m not saying each opinion is constructive, but credit where credit is due - there are people that engage these threads fair and square while providing some fuel for the discussion. There are trolls about, sure, but they are few and far between and not nearly as engaged as some folks.

The Taunt thread:

I like this take. Doesn’t completely derail the thread and provides a perspective that could be considered instead of “just removing taunt from the game/the ability in question”.

The Inferno staff thread:

And sorry for brining @vror’s takes up, but their takes are grounded in the spectrum of reality I would like the space ship called “Balance(D)arktide State” to more-or-less land in - there is a lot of coverage, even if I don’t fully align with it and would like there to be some space for broken/fun balance to be.

Same troll.

Like combat knife was OP but it’s been power crept so hard it’s really not anymore. Last I checked it was in the top quarter of weapon performance. I mean we could look at it’s mobility, I guess, but that’s kind whats great about it. Crusher HP has made it hard enough to oneshor them prior to how it used to be.

IRONICALLY Dueling Sword may need to be looked at further but we need more than a day or two with the changes. If anything needs nerfs at this point it’s psyker and staffs.

For what its worth taunt is widely regarded as OP. In the same way VoC was. Just not the highest priority item I would say.

This is the sentiment that really drives me nuts with anti-nerf types.

NERFS CAN MAKE THE GAME MORE FUN

When arbites first came out, it filled a niche that had poor representation in darktide at the time, that of a stagger heavy frontliner that wasn’t jank like ogryn. A foot knight type instead of a bardin type you could say. The problem was, that arbites was soooo strong and durable that he wasn’t fun to pilot. I would play him and literally zone out of the game because i never felt any danger or stakes that would actually get me to engage with the game on a satisfying level. Since then, they’ve nerfed his toughness generation (the main thing making him feel invincible) and the increase to elite hp and buffs to other classes no longer make him kill everything and top damage for free every game. This has lead to him being in a sweet spot where he is still quite strong (especially so with outliers like the Buddy Shotgun) but you do actually have to engage with the game to do well, and that makes arby more fun and satisfying than he was on release. The nerfs made him more fun.

I think apollo’s thread about shield tauntgryn is actually on the mark here, the other threads from faceless accounts that read as translated text are trolls. But tauntgryn is actually OD and could use some tuning down in order to make it more fun in the same way that arby did. It has an interesting and fun to pilot niche (and depending on your teammates tastes and classes, can be quite fun to have on your team too) but right now a competent pilot can just run straight through nearly every room in havoc 40, taunt everything and survive while his team just waltz behind him and mops up everything, trivializing damn near every room. Room breaches into ambient spawns are the hardest part of current havoc, being able to just instantly run that over is very unhealthy i think. Would like to see this tuned down so it can’t be abused so heavily but remains a good option for your team comp. I think a few targeted adjustments would work fine.

The nerfs haven’t gone far enough, actually.

As one of the players who previously suggested a 90 second cooldown for Krak, I’m very pleased that Fatshark listened to player feedback, making the different classes more balanced and the game more enjoyable to play.
I’m not suggesting a pure nerf, but rather changes that make more sense functionally. For example, the taunt ability should be removed and replaced with a buff that benefits Ogryn himself, rather than simply making him a meat shield that takes hits.

Taunt was talked about a lot in the forums and how it needed nerfing, this is nothing new

Shield was always mentioned as the strongest Ogryn option, it deserving a nerf or not was in many discussions (I personally believe it doesn’t need nerfing, but I’ve seen a bunch of people here say it does), but it was talked about which doesn’t qualify with “people never cared about”

I think Oxygen needs to be nerfed too because enemies die way too quick while breathing it.

think they phrased their concerns very clumsily but they both had good points even if the solution to just nerf things isn’t good imo

taunt shield ogryn = so strong that you feel like you have to play it and it’s the only way to get that type of gameplay, but there’s only one weapon for it and the weapon is stupid and broken (you spam h1) so it doesn’t feel good and it’s a bad dynamic
taunt problem = it literally breaks and destroys enemy AI in ways that don’t make sense and basically turns them off for the duration rather than just being an actual taunt

the solution to these isn’t to nerf both though it’s to add new weapons that make ogryn play like that (like more shield types or something) and for taunt it’s to make the taunt into an actual taunt and not make enemies kick the air (wtf)

people should actually read, comprehend and not asusme everyone is acting in bad faith, the victim olympics get pretty bad here. even if you disagree with their takes to nerf these things (like i do) you can still read and add to the discussion and not just cry about how they’re evil

Fully agreed, I don’t think it even needs very much either, being totally honest. The suggestion in that thread someone put out of having shotgunners still able to fire their shotguns while taunted is a great one and may well be literally all that’s needed to bring it to the right spot.

I’d also consider removing the secondary pulses, or at least removing the taunt aspect from them while still letting them build toughness gen stacks, but that might be going too far.

Add Flamer, Sniper and Bomber as well ofc, since they also bug with melee out
