Didn’t you hold exactly the opposite opinion on the matter not too long ago? I remember you saying that the game was sold with videos of Veteran shooting hordes.
you never meant to be able to finish havoc games and reach level 40
I’m not seeing anything about it that in the original dev blog introducing Havoc.
How is it healthy for the game to design a gamemode not meant to be beaten?
If you play a challenging gamemode with 4 good players who put in their best effort, you’re supposed to win, isn’t it the whole point? If the gamemode is designed in a way that rare wins are mostly dictated by favorable RNG even if you’re top% with voice comms, isn’t it just random lottery at this point?
If a gamemode has any structure, ANY SEMBLENCE OF FAIRNESS and logic to it, it will be figured out with time, even things like Garden/Red/Pox gas running on the same one map.
I’ll use my Consort Radan example again. The whole difficulty of this fight comes down to absolutely crazy diverse attacks with you needing to learn how to dodge each one. Without doing that, just getting hit twice in a row with most builds not copied from youtubers kills you, and most attacks has chainhits of 2+ attacks (not to mention they randomize unlike Darktide). You can only play the fight so many times for it to remain challenging until you learn how to dodge most of them.
Havoc is not that different. It’s a puzzle about learning favorable routes on the maps, spots where you get Twins/DH ritual spawns, and how to use your class skills optimally. Havoc got easier since the last Havoc update which introduced new challenges, because most Havoc players figured out all the best strats, and now it all comes down to meeting the minimum expected mechanical skill, which requires at least 3/4 teammates being a few inches above average.
The hardest part in Havoc is fake difficulty like Rinda Karnak spawning in with a subtle audio queue of her shield activating, while you’re busy fighting horde and elites, and her instantly running up to Psyker and oneshotting them with a sword swipe, forcing a 3v2 against the Twins and other enemies. That or stuff like spawning 3 DH rituals in Consignment Yard in the starting area or spawning a sped up ritual out of players’ sight.
if you buff the normal game so that i get an advantage in Havoc it defeats the porpuse of having a Havoc mode in the first place
Which buffs to the main game and advantages are we talking about here that would completely trivialize Havoc? Chain axe buff? Infiltrate buff that doesn’t make it a dead in the water ability? I don’t think anyone is suggesting buffs for stuff like Purgatus, Bully Club or DS4…
Didn’t we play together with Ogryns and Arbites, who still kept dying in Havoc 40 before us Veterans, despite them having the regular OP Bully club/Rumbler builds? It gotta mean Havoc clears are not guaranteed unless the team plays well together, no?
