I genuenly haven’t touched the Moonbow since it got nerfed to the ground. Is there any chance for that weapon and some other weapons that are underperforming. And now when I saw it being used by my newbie friends and even they said that it’s like super bad even on champion difficulty. So maybe give some of its past glory back.
Isn’t Moonbow still quite good ?
no , AOE got removed , burn basically doesn’t do any dmg anymore and it doesnt pierce anything and is basically just a worse version of Longbow. The only thing it does is allows new players to not get arrow consumption penalties for missed shots.
it is still a fire-and-forget weapon in many cases and can take out specials, especially ones that teleport.
I disagree it underperforms, and longbow fills a different niche than moonfire. AoE removal was a good thing, it shouldn’t overshadow the poison bow and be good at everything. It’s still quite good and doesn’t need a tweak I don’t think.

It’s still a perfectly functional weapon that’s no better or worse than existing options as it barely plays differently. Because of that…
-
It’s also a disappointing uninspired and boring weapon lacking any flavour or identity.
I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard to balance the two points no? Something balanced and functional while still being appropriately flavourful and unique?
Ok sure lets pretend its on par with other weapons. But i totally agree that it doesnt have it own niche and thats what makes it even worse.
It’s quite funny to say that when:
- AoE is Hagbane’s
- Burn is used by more than 1 weapon, and hagbane also has DoT
The way I usually see friends using it is for the most part as a Shortbow alternative of spamming arrows into targets.
The Moonfire Bow is honestly a bit underrated right now. On Handmaiden, Sister, and Shade, it pairs really well with Hunter and crit chance, since all three of these careers have bonuses to crit accessible through talents or their career abilities.
Hunter increases power (both melee and ranged) by 25% against enemies of the same kind for 10 seconds whenever you crit with it. Shade has an extra 5% crit chance baseline, Handmaiden has a talent offering 5% more crit, and Sister can get free crits through her kit. Sister can also take a talent that grants 2 free crits with each Thornwake, plus another that gives +10% crit chance for consuming Radiance.
The Moonfire Bow is a fairly spammable weapon, and the DoT lets you hit all the necessary breakpoints you need for a ranged weapon. Pair this with Hunter and you’ve got a noticeably stronger melee elf. You can also run Barrage, which stacks a 5% power bonus per hit.
The Javelins can use these traits too, but I find Javs are better suited for their stagger, and they benefit much more from the headshot trait that returns 1 ammo, so you can spam them at the head. They’re also a bit slower.
In my opinion, the Moonfire is an ideal choice for any build using crit chance when paired with Hunter. Your uptime should be pretty high when using it, giving you a massive power boost. It’s great for firing into hordes to trigger Hunter and then going ham in melee. Works well against monsters too, and it kills specials pretty fast.
The only sad thing is losing that blue puff effect from when it had AOE. Sure, it was mega OP back then, but they could’ve kept the effect and just made it smaller. It looks a little sad now.
The moonbow is still my main bow on WS and any career with the assassin bonus.
I frequently use it against elites, with heavy+light, charged heavy has 2 extra DoT ticks and hitting the headshot literally kills a stormvermin with the help of a light shot.
Its a finesse weapon, headshots with heavy 2 are quite potent, it never runs out of ammo, especially if you learn when to use it.
Don’t go and convince the community its underpowered, so fatshark can go and boost it, because that’s what happened with the constant moaning about engi being underpowered, he was fine, then they made him this … cheese machine he is today. Its fine, leave it be.
