Mods.. Hacks.. Or just... FS Oversight?

So.. I’ve ran a few matches and noticed an uptick in players that use things like “scoreboards” and “true level” enemy “health bars” and mods of this sort.. This is not the sort of thread complaining about mods such as these. This is a thread with the intention to bring attention to mods / hacks or other exploits that provide increased awareness, map cues and what I suspect to be click-hacks or exploits.

Example: running with a psyker this afternoon in Havoc 30s that was running around with a staff and dueling sword combo as many a psyker would do. However he was killing everything (seemingly) in one hit or incredibly quickly - including rotten ogryns / maulers and the like. Something odd that I noticed about the character behavior when watching him run around doing so was that 1: He always knew where every special enemy and trigger was and was aware of them even off map - such as calling out twins / plague ogryns and chaos spawns before we reached the trigger point(s). 2: Something odd about his “weapon” behavior - I watched as his character was very quickly switching between staff and dueling sword continuously without stopping (auto-clicker?) both while attacking enemies and simply moving throughout the map. 3: He was applying soulblaze to everything WHILE he was attacking it withhis dueling sword (yes, I am fully aware of psyker talents that apply such things but this was.. .incredibly fast and even trash mobs) 4: killing everything in one hit (seemingly one hit, his character was switching weapons whilst he was attacking … everything … so it was very difficult to tell just how many hits enemies were taking).

Plague ogryns went down in no time at all and both twins went down within seconds far less time than most coordinated groups I’ve ever been part of have been able to accomplish such a feat.

I’m not sure if there is an exploit in the weapon switching time / animation for the character to swing a weapon and the weapon switching animation to increase attack speed - whilst taking advantage of staff casting at the same time … I don’t really know how to explain it. I do know that I am able to switch weapons mid swing and vice-versa to puff with the inferno staff then switch immediately to my melee weapon. I tested it in the Psykhanium where I landed a hit and immediately switched weapons so I’m quite sure it is possible to exploit the time it takes to swing / switch / puff / switch / swing through an auto-clicker.

Another of my concerns is the visibility some mods have brought forth in 1: highlighting ALL specials / monstrosities in a visible vicinity or radius around a character similar to those brought by psyker and arbitrator abilities and B: Event triggers (such as captain, twins or monstrosity spawnings) - I’ve seen the mods that allow this… Why does Fatshark allow something of this sort?

Yes, I get it, this is a coop game so who cares about advantages of this sort and I am also free to leave a match or stop playing with players that I suspect are … how do I put it eloquently … exploiting? Is it considered hacking? Which I do leave such matches - I’m not interested in playing with people that feel the need to exploit a game’s mechanics in such a manner.

I don’t feel true level mods, scoreboards or the like are exploiting or giving players unfair advantages - though I would argue true level mods cause players to be … discriminatory. While scoreboards can inflate some player’s egos - I’m all for letting you do all the work if you so desire. Knock yourself out. Jump in there and get it done!

(PS: I have over 1300 hours in the game and have been playing since launch and have purposefully created “new” characters and interacted with people that tell me my character level isn’t … up to their standard … which I find laughable and very silly.)

It was probably someone using a macro on both Deimos and Purg staff. There’s a good number of those running around in Havoc nowadays. This person could either have been using that mod that tells you when bosses and specials spawn with a notification; or they were straight wallhacking which is also possible with mods.

Fatshark can’t really do anything about mods without disabling them entirely, but they can kill the macros.

cause I picked the game not to have it played for me or in front of me by some wannabe-haxors and script kiddies.

personal improvement is only measured against legit players actually performing better and thus be an inspiration.

see?we “won”.. aint worth sh!t when “we” didn’t win but lost 10-20 minutes to a boring cheat-show (if one was willing to even sit it out that long)

and “you” (the script :clown_face: in question) made a perfect ass off yourself, deserving a prime spot on the blocklist.

perfectly fine, one of its uses for me: last couple matches of a day, 3x console < 50, green gear… aehm nope thx, did my back exercise that day :face_with_tongue:

scoreboard cause I like to see numbers go up, aint ashamed to admit.

past 2k hours I had maybe 4-5 times some rant off first, his impact on the match was shall we say “neglectable” and 3 of em didn’t even know what a scoreboard was, so ignorance being bliss in kinda one revolving door :sweat_smile:

back when an id software level designer was fired “we didn’t get what we expected “ :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: , same applies here.

to a degree(see 3 casuals on a late day example above) everyone gets his shot, he fkks up and doesn’t b!tch about it, everything is A-ok :+1:

after all some footage needs comedic content for spice anyways :joy:

If sound works, i know too usually.

These are pretty stable, you get used to them, twins can be heard sometimes when they spawn, but if he was calling them all out each, he got mod that automatically does that i’ve seen other people use it.

In theory it can be done with no mod, flame enemies, switch to DS 4 stab them, get uncanny strike, get damage for souldblaze, repeat. So real question how fast it was.

Well i don’t know, i had groups where twins got oblitirated in seconds,not to mention trash like plague ogryn, at least sister getting nuked fast is kinda what often happens, DS 4 do a lot of damage to her on all classes, veteran can unload bolter and if all rounds hit, that’s minus 60% of her health.

Also on some weapons you can cancel switch animation with no mods, just by holding aim or attacking, like helbore can actually be made to attack mid animation switch and can be aimed before it ends.

I just played a couple havoc 40 with a Psyker doing this on the deimos with the strength on elite kill and uncanny. I couldn’t even kill a rotten armor crusher with a 1 second Krak nade before the Psyker switched cheesed it. Yeah it’s really annoying and Insanely OP. I felt useless and it just wasted my time, I even stopped to ask why he was hitting so fast because even in a H40 game I was in no danger from the rotten armor mobs as the Psyker was killing then all. He replied “Psyker cheese”. Honestly I’ll probably just try to avoid those players not fun I play H40 for the challenge not easy infinite dps exploits.

Dude is probably using this mod to see enemies through walls.
Also the spawn feed mod that tells him what monsters are spawning (lame, but they come anyway, whether you know or not).
And most importantly a macro that lets him block-cancel and switch weapons with a speed and precision that is just not humanly possible. That one would annoy me the most, since it allows some chump with no grasp of mechanics to walk forward through the map while just clicking a button.

Simple solution: don’t play with them. Leave and block.

We do care, people’s perception of what is exploiting varies, many mods are user experience improvements Fatshark has failed to deliver or doesn’t want to address. Other mods are born to address the game engine deficiencies, such as missing audio on important enemies. Wallhacks and macros which abuse peril generation, animation skipping in scripted way should be considered exploiting, but I don’t see Fatshark addressing this any time soon, especially if the issue is not widespread. Especially fixing this would cost money and time, introduction of the official realm, modded realm etc.

Sure, and I can understand why people gatekeep, at least in high Havoc. If anything we don’t have enough info about the actual skill level of players, as your Havoc rank without mods shows the highest Havoc level you have completed, and not your actual account Havoc rank.

I see people with Havoc level 1-20 attempting to join Havoc 40 games. Some still have purple or worse gear on them, and very questionable gear/build setups. Those aren’t experienced players on “smurf” characters.

I usually play Havoc with a gaming buddy of mine, and after reaching 40 we don’t care that much, and often try out pretty non-meta builds, as you cannot de-rank, but some people seem to be straight out trolling at this point. Havoc is hard as it is.

The macro swap abuse stuff is really the easiest thing to fix from a dev perspective. And no, it doesn’t involve a cooldown or swapping or quelling like they’ve already implemented, that’s a small brain solution. The big brain solution is just making attack cooldowns persistent through swapping. That way you can quickswap to a wep and instantly attack and it feels good, but doing “attack swap-swap attack” does not impart attack speed.
