For you… not for me. My fave matches are where nobody uses ammo except in specific situations and the rest is a melee-fest.
Not that I would be annoyed in a game where the other 3 just gun everything down instantly (which does happen), I adjust and play differently.
But if it was always like this I would get bored pretty fast with DT as this is not what the game was made to be.
I feel like you keep avoiding this @MadMartigan , the game was not made to be the way you want it, perhaps be less argumentitive with the fans of that game on the games forum when you receive resistance to your idea that, factually, WOULD change the entire game.
It seems to me, what we could have is an opposite mode from the low pickup mode, one where ammo is in abundance throughout the map, or some strange warp anomaly gives the squad infinite ammo during a specific event where there is a larger horde than usual or something. idk, just spitting out ideas.
tbh the game is clearly meant to be playable with ranged as a primary. There’s really only one of four classes which straight-up can’t go 90% ranged with at least one build/weapon.
"Less argumentative with the fans“… Oh sorry. I didn’t realise that my 400 hours of gameplay, fairly regular forum contributing, multiple aquilla purchases, and generally higher-than-average positive game feedback meant I was not a fan. I have a different opinion to you about 1 aspect of the game so I guess I’m an outsider. Cool.
Stop telling people their way of playing is wrong. It’s really quite patronising. I want people to have freedom to shoot loads if they want or melee loads if they want. Im the one not wanting to force a play style on others.
The “way I want to play it”, as I’ve said approximately 2 billion times in this thread, has happened on many matches already where ammo is incredibly plentiful, and it’s damn fun. Even when I’ve played as melee zealot I’ve never had this bizarre opinion of wanting other players to stop shooting things. The balancing of the game is such, IMO, that tides cannot be avoided without melee - so where is the harm in having more regular ammo. The guns in the game are not capable of clearing a tide alone.
Out of the hundreds of hours I’ve played I’ve never once seen people ploughing through tides with ranged without having to (or wanting to) go melee at many points. Even when there is plentiful ammo on a particular match with a couple of vets in the squad.
The hordes are simply too overwhelming to allow just shooting. That’s really damn obvious so I’m getting sick of repeating myself.
I’m also pretty sick of this thread and all these apparent “fans” too, whom apparently have more of a right to an opinion than myself and keep telling me my opinion is invalid because it differs to theirs (whilst ironically accusing me of doing so).
ogryn stubber/kickback, vet plasma gun, all plow right through the main body of a horde in a second.
if you count rager/mauler/mutant etc a simple dash backwards kites them until they too get shot to death easily.
the occasional crusher standing alone or in a group of x get plasma´d as well or can opened with a ripper until bangbang continues.
in most of my matches i restrain myself from going kickback ham on a horde for to long because it´d be just boring to watch and deliberately spice things up dancing among the mobs.
given the corridor setup of most engangements, the “horde” consists of a few poxwalkers IF they get past the initial ranged fireworks.
ragers are two shots, mutant sometimes oneshot, what horde is left there to speak of ?
even hunting grounds ( a more “erratic” type of mini-horde ) melts away once the spawn point is located and a doorway as chokepoint chosen.
all the while its the mixture of both being essential for a successul mission that makes the gameplay of darktide stand out in such a positive way.
there´d be no feeling of achievement if someone simply holding down lmb standing still would get the same reward as those carrying the match going in and out of encounters of various demands, playing rock paper scissors at a miliseconds pace with flamers/trappers/hounds/mutants etc.
all those disablers lose their meaning and terrifying presence when dispatched from range without a sweat.
Ok, Im gonna stop here because I dont want to get heated and turn from debate in to personal argument
Im not attacking you, I disagree and Im explaining why. When we take everything as an attack and look for strawmen to attack back, I find its time to take a step away for a moment let the blood cool down, if u know what Im saying?
You are the smartest, and the best, your arguments are weighty, people’s are not, your design vision is briliant. Just don’t die from the heart attack.
