Isn’t discarding gold or purple weapons supposed to return some crafting mats, like plasteel and diamantene? I haven’t gotten anything besides coins since Unlocked and Loaded. Or am I misunderstanding that mechanic?

That’s correct, the mechanic was implemented with Unlocked & Loaded and you should be getting materials when discarding those rarities.
If this continues to happen, can you please provide your console log from the session so we can take a look?

Upon closer inspection, it appears I did get mats from that discard, 300 plasteel and 60 diamantene, it’s the notifier that is not working.
I suggest that you rename the “discard” option to “salvage” or “dismantle”.
Discarding implies that you just throw something away, while salvaging/dismantling tells you that you get something back in return.
Also, it would be a good idea to add a display of all the mats that you would get from the selected items, if the action is performed.
