Cosmetics are locked behind some of these achievements.
Since cosmetics are so rare in Darktide, it’s no wonder players are climbing over their mother to unlock these.
Earning cosmetics and looking cool IS part of my fun.
Stop trying to tell people what their definition of fun is and play your own game.
The current design is that players who ‘choose’ to do them will inadvertently make the game harder for 3 other people, this is a fact. They aren’t trolling, they are doing what fatshark is intending.
How is a psyker supposed to kill a boss with brain burst solo without everyone else shooting it on heresey difficulty?
How is an ogryn supposed to charge through six other ogryns on heresey difficulty without anyone else killing them? The list goes on.
Couple with the fact that the mission timers bottleneck you into certain levels for hours at a time, heresy is unplayable when 1-2 people are not shooting anything and begging to disconnect at the end to cheese a penance…
Nothing is wrong with players doing penances, the problem is a vast majority of people doing them hamper the mission and I don’t want to have to spend time and effort adding more and more people to my friends list to finish them - MM is suffering at higher difficulties.
I think you’re misunderstanding me. I agree, the current design of penances is such that if you try to complete them in PUGs (at least without confirming the randos are cool with you trying for it first) you are indeed “forced” to be a troll if you value getting that cosmetic over their wishes.
I just think the correct response to that is to ask first, and then based on the outcome.
a) They say it’s cool and it’s all good go for your life
b) They say no, I actually want to play the game, then the reasonable thing to do is accept that and either leave and try elsewhere, or play the mission normally.
I don’t think the game dangling a cosmetic in front of you is a valid excuse to ruin a run for other people. You are indeed being a troll if you choose to proceed to try to force a penance against your team’s wishes. Your desire to get a cosmetic does not trump multiple others peoples’ desire to enjoy the coop game they purchased.
The game encourages you to be a troll, it does not force you to do so. You can choose to not prioritise your cosmetic over up to 3 other peoples’ enjoyment. Is that completely clear? I don’t know how to be more clear than that.
Trolling will happen irregardless of penance and it is visible in every game, the sticking point is the penances actively encourage and reward this behaviour + there is an idea around “if I’am suffering then I sure as shi t will make it that everyone around me is as misarable as possible.”
Again, please note I have said who knows how many times in this thread that I completely agree the current design of penances is awful and needs to be changed. I am not arguing against that whatsoever. We are on the same page there.
And no one is disagreeing with you on that people shouldn’t ruin the experience for others, I’m merely pointing out that since FS is rewarding people for playing in a manner that hampers others that MM suffers as a whole.
Not everyone is kind enough to ask and will simply run missions with the intention of completing a penance, if they fail they leave meaning the rest are stuck with a bot for 3+ mins (which really sucks on heresy+).
For example I ran heresy this morning with two veterans who weren’t shooting all mission, they didn’t ask and shouldn’t ‘have’ to - this happens more often than not.
To put a pin in it, you’re right, but not everyone is altruistic (most aren’t in my experience).
Cool, that’s all good. I only kept responding here because people either kept implying I was supporting the current penance design or that the design was good enough justification for them to behave badly in game. Very happy to put a pin in that and get back to “FS dear god please fix penances they blow”.
