June Update: Early Balance Look

That statement is exceptionally good evidence that these weapons are carrying you and have prevented you from properly developing an appropriate level of skill for these difficulties.

I legitimately had more fun with Dueling Sword before the patch 13 buff. Back when most people wouldn’t look twice at the thing. It was nuanced, had a niche, and downsides the needed to work around.

People who claim to love it only now it’s obviously broken are poser fans of the weapon. I want it nerfed because I really like it aesthetically and thematically, and it currently makes me feel deeply grimy to use. I don’t know how you can use it for any amount of time and not recognise how idiotic its power level is.

If you ever put your staff away and actually tried meleeing things you’d realise how far off base you are with this statement. Psyker is really really good at melee and has been for a looooooonnnggg time.

The Psyker’s melee weapons are extremely powerful, yet they’re very fragile—like a true glass cannon.

Helpfully, they also have best in game mobility, so that you should by all rights get hit by far the least often.

So to be honest I don’t even consider them that glass. You have all the tools possible to get hit only when you choose to risk it.

I know psykers can do well in melee
and when they do it’s thanks to very good melee weapons and a crapload of raw damage, if the player is skilled enough to get away with it
not because the class is really suited for melee, that’s what I really meant by awful
thanks for making my point

We used to joke about this “can you image if zealot|vet had a DS? hahaha”, and then the madlads went ahead and made it happen.
It was so myopic that it screams it being a deliberate choice to appease some of the masses, but in the end it was myopic again as here we all are.

I’m still wondering if it will remain on the (leaked) Arbites weapon list come next week.
P.S. Hmm!

Crusher is in, toothpick and knife is out.

you can sweep the floor with meta melee builds on other classes with literally tactical axe on psyker because they are literally that juiced, and still being extremely safe because they can constantly spam push attacks for damage, control, and block frames with 0 consequence of being stamina broken because of the stam regen rate and peril block talent in addition to constant ranged immunity from crits
but yeah ds was fine on psyker cuz the class isnt suited for melee without it, so it was clearly fine and balanced on them too

Having some of the best damage and mobility buffs, the best stamina stats, as well as the ability to basically ignore enemy ranged attacks, does not qualify as things that make you “suited for melee”???

Are you high or is face tanking just the only way you know to deal with enemy threats?

I am high but you are literally missing the point (twice) because you insist that “yeah it must be a skill issue on your end”
guess i’ll have to spell it out

if you make an op weapon available to classes that any idiot could play (any other class with actual melee talents), you might have an issue because suddenly everyone can be op

Sweet, wish I was too

However, I don’t think you understand actually, because you keep implying Psyker does not have access to strong melee talents or stats, but they very much do.

Yes you do need to be a bit better at avoiding being hit than Zealot, but your potential output is better and you have more tools to avoid being hit in the first place.

So if Psyker does have strong melee supporting talents, competitive if not superior damage output, best in game mobility, best in game stamina stats, and a bevy or strong AoE tools to back you up, in what possible way are they “awful at melee”???

In the hypothetical way? Like in an alternate universe where they weren’t absurdly stacked in almost every category?

it was/is overpowered on psyker and what should have happened is FS should have rebalanced it and then opened it up to the other classes. The weapon always needed nerfing and opening it up just made that far more apparent.

Having more options is a good thing but those options need to be balanced.

You’ve been on such a roll nooooooo

Isn’t he right, though? The 3-hit powercycler mechanic is kind of fine (though they could just make it the baseline function of the sword and free up a blessing slot, probably with an overall nerf to the damage output to compensate). There’s no reason to rework this mark specifically, but they could actually add another one for Relic Blade enjoyers. It’s not like with the Eviscerator, where the special literally stuns your character, doesn’t do that much damage, and on top of that a Crusher lands an overhead right on your face while you’re sawing a Poxwalker that just happened to be in the right place at the right time against the right enemy(the Emperor’s finest - the reject).

It’s more of a joke than anything.

Personally I find the Power Sword abysmally unfun to use. Spamming the same 3 attacks and sometimes a push attack, while constantly having to reactivate it paired with the low mobility isn’t my cup of tea.

I would prefer if it was a fun weapon for me to use imo.

Right. So it would be cool if they add another mark, or remake the one that almost no one uses into a heat mechanic weapon.
I would like myself a Relic Blade–like Power Sword any day. I love the Relic Blade!

Poor balance is poor balance—don’t blame players. Is it really that hard to admit the balancing is flawed? I see nothing “dirty” about using plasma guns and dueling swords in Darktide . These weapons simply enable more efficient clears. Let me reiterate: You have no right to restrict or criticize others for this choice. The arrogance I’ve seen on the forums only reinforces my negative impression of you all. Whatever—I won’t be back after getting a refund anyway. Staying here is pointless.

(leak alert) I mean, they are adding another heat mechanic pattern with 2 marks looks like…

I saw the supposed leak! Cool if true. I really liked the last two melee weapons they added to the game. I would even pay for a DLC if that meant the same people who designed the last two big swords (and the Stubber - the Stubber is a chief kiss too) were going to make me some new toys to play with.

Not a Darktide game refund hopefully, eh?
But the guy, though harsh, is correct. (You are correct too) At least, I share the same stance. The rampant defense of the OP stuff clearly shows that Fatshark let it stay overpowered for too long, and people got so used to it - they don’t even want to switch. As one YouTuber said: “I will still choose the Dueling Sword for H40 because it’s comfortable for me, for my team.” Some players might not even be able to clear high Havoc ranks without it. That’s a balance problem - both from the standpoint of the weapon being too effective, and from the standpoint that the environment forces players to lean on over-effectiveness.

And he clearly says that he likes the weapon a lot - aesthetically, thematically, probably the moveset too - he just can’t bring himself to play it because it’s too good. He thinks that if it were pulled down a fair bit, it would be a more balanced weapon. There are already fair weapons in the game that are both strong and have drawbacks - unlike the DS, which has almost none.

So yeah, he could have emphasized that without calling people crutches left and right, tho.

Then let me clarify. I have no issue with players using the tools available to them. I completely agree the fault of this matter lies squarely with Fatshark. Heck I made a thread today lambasting Fatshark precisely for their inaction on balance adjustments and its consequences.

I will however take issue if those players come in and try to tell Fatshark not to make necessary balance adjustments. I will also laugh when overpowered things are described as the only “viable” options.

I do apologise for my tone though. The recent flood of “DON’T NERF DUELING SWORD OR PLASMA” comments and threads over a leaked (now confirmed to be inaccurate) list of balance adjustments has put me and others into full battle mode defending what seems to us to be very necessary changes.

I have definitely thrown around too many ad hominem today so genuine apologies for that.
