I will keep this thread open as long as the argument above is not continued any further. You’ve made your respective points.
I believe that the proto-model of Saltzpyre’s Bounty Hunter ability pistol was also showcased in a similar vein.
Yep. Kruber’s still not gotten his 4th (5th) ranged weapon, for one reason or another, but if it would be yet another way to spell “Trollhammer torpedo”, then maybe it’s for the better it’s not that grenade-launching blunderbuss.
On the topic of this thread: I wouldn’t mind the elf having S&S unlocked for other careers, but going by the fact it would likely require them to make separate shield models for each of the careers, since the current S&S seems to be using Handmaiden-exclusive styles, it’s somewhat unrealistic to expect.
An outrider grenade launcher for Kruber could be done without making it like the Trollhammer. I think a longer range, but smaller blast with more powerful stagger, but a good bit less damage could be fun; something that could knock down a couple chaos warriors, but not able to fully stagger monsters or lords without a decently large power bonus. Maybe with 10 shots, slightly faster reload, and just for mercenary and foot knight. Explosive weapons are fun.
The reason its reasonable for Huntsman Krub to use a shield and spear do not strike me as odd. Boar hunting spears are a thing. And given the “hunting” conditions, shields are not a strange thing to bring along too. Krub is first and forthmost a pragmatic, even as a Grail Knight he wont skip out on using “inferior” imperial weapons that get the job done even if he does honor the “only melee” thing. That´d be why he also uses bombs when he finds them.
However as for Waystalker.
It is absolutely appropriate if said Elf goes off to join the high elf queen´s guard, with divine favor to boot. Plus endtimes had the two elf realm queens…fuse together? Or such. But the important bit is that the careers do sort of represent “what if” timelines for each character. So a timeline where Keri does somehow join the high queen´s guard as a handmaiden? Valid. Ofc that career would have the appropriate gear and symbols.
But that existing does not mean the OG tree hugging elf timeline would also use shields, that´s not in their character models or lore that GW has presented. There is no case where these lightfooted skirmishers and archers would plop down shields and form a wall.
Other elven fighters in the faction may use shields, but not the waystalkers. And any outside attempt to change that would likely incur the displeasure of GW.
My main problem with the weapon being implemented is that it would be yet another weapon on “power” scale that equals that of a single-use item, i.e., a bomb; and if you’d have 10 of them, if we follow your suggested ammo count, why would you use anything else, really, especially since you could replenish them with ammo pick-ups?
I will not be seeking solutions to this problem, since by now the game is bloated by/has a tech-debt of weapons that just power-creep other options, but if FS wants to go with yet another “fun” option to have in the game, then I’d rather it be something that fills other niches.
What I’m recommending, nor the existing trollhammer serve a substitute for bombs. What I described is lower damage and AOE with more stagger; more of a support weapon. Don’t be ridiculous.
ngl a aoe weapon with mainpurpose stagger sounds boring as hell
Some of you guys see things in black and white, no imagination. It could be noticeably less damage than the trollhammer, while providing significant stagger. Nobody said “main purpose stagger”; it can be dual purpose as opposed to the trollhammer which is more AOE damage. I think it would be very fun to knock over a couple chaos warriors, while still being able to kill a few stormvermin or specials in one shot. With a faster reload and more ammo, it could prove equally useful.
i rather had delayed fuse bouncing bombs but i guess im simpleminded.
love that sort of gameplay with boucing stuff of walls around corners timing perfect so it still explodes in air, thats fun
Sounds like Borderlands, it’s hard to imagine shells that bounce around
TF2 or overwach both have an entire character achetype around that sorta thing
but you could also name counterstrike nades are thrown but thats just animation could be a launcher no prob
I’m actually for more restrictions. It makes the game easier to balance. In DT they opened the dueling sword to zealot and vet, and it absolutely dominates the scene.
It’s kinda bad when that happens, both for variety’s sake and because then the people that always go for the meta choice start getting loud about how easy the game’s become.
Or the weapon gets nerfed into the ground for everybody else (like with VT repeater pistol).
Luckily the same hasn’t happened to coghammer just because slayers can use it, but it could just be a matter of time.
Well this case is a bit of an exception, the power of coghammer is it being versatile and quite strong. But for Slayer who brings two melee weapons around the option to pick two different but complementary ones that are stronger when facing their respective specialties is typically more fun. The only time one kinda wants cog on him is when using throwing axes accordingly.
imo the reason coghammer is so good is because of how easy it is to use,
the first attack is what you want in most cases, letting you attack cancel very efficiently.
effectively a single attack combo
yeah, tend to agree, especially since you can use options that provide similar killing power in their specialized field without the drawback of abysmal dodge
