It's impossible to change mutually-exclusive talents in Talents Tree without often resetting huge parts of it

Issue Type (Required):

UI & UX

Issue Description (Required):

I know it’s been like that for a while, and has been reported before too. But I’m starting to consider it a usability/UI issue at this point, hence I thought I at least should try to drag FS’s attention to the problem again, by reporting it as a bug (which, in a certain sense, it is, by being a usability issue).

The problem is that you can’t swap certain mutually-exclusive nodes in your build without resetting huge part of your current talents tree. I’m talking about nodes like Blitzes, Abilities, Keystones - with the first two being the most problematic. I see no reason whatsoever for them to not be swappable with a simple click on the node, it seems so natural that I can’t even imagine what the person who brought it to life (probably a professional UI designer) even thought about when they decided to not allow it.

Here is why it becomes a huge problem for me quite often. Imagine a situation when you get into a pre-mission lobby as a Veteran with Survivalist aura node in your build (so, most of vet’s builds) - and see another dude there with it. That’s not very efficient combo then, and you would like to select any other Aura instead. But you can’t - as you would need to disassemble your entire tree below that node, to change it. Would it allow to change it with a click it would be a 5s job, at the same time.

Another realm where it creates huge issues is experimenting with builds. Each time you want to change those nodes in a build you’re working with, you have to first copy it to a different slot, then reset the tree and reassemble it from scratch using the previous build as example. What is problematic too, if you have no free build slots left.

You can say I could create a mirror loadout preset for my build, with another Aura selected - just for this particular case. The problem is I already have 5 builds I play regularly, and 3 extras, I don’t have any build presets’ slots left. And even if I would, that would mean I now need to manage twice as much builds, turning it all into micro-management hell. Just because somebody on FS team can’t figure out how to implement a single-click change of mutually exclusive talents.

Hope this makes sense, and will drag some attention. Thanks.

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. For, say, a Veteran operative try to create some build by spending all of your talent points, going from the root of the tree to one of the keystone nodes and below it
  2. Now try to swap the type of Blitz (type of grenades) or type of Aura you chose for something else, without resetting any of the nodes below it

Reproduction Rate (Required):

Constant (100%)

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

I think you might need this.

I’m aware there are 3rd party solutions. But having a 3rd party software developed by somebody you don’t know and can’t rely on maintaining their thing in the future, to fix a one-click problem is simply abhorrent, so my point still stands.

There are also people who don’t use mods, don’t want to deal with additional complexity of them etc. What kind of solution is this, to them? It makes no sense, and it’s kinda a pointless arguments, as indicated by recent addition of dodge counter to the game, which has been there via mods for years. So FS at least acknowledges that certain problems must not require such complicated solutions and must be part of the base game. This is one of those problems.

Aye, dodge UI was a much-needed addition that I was incredibly pleased to see (along with a better stamina UI), I don’t really see any reason not to add a bit of talent UX.

The mod appears to be consistently stable even throughout all the tree changes without any updates, letting you swap mutually exclusive talents (or talents on the same line if you’re maxed on points) without issue, so it’ll be fine for the future at least, but this remains a problem for vanilla players (especially console, who don’t have access to mods).
